The first day collections of Tezz has shocked the trade. The film has opened to disastrous numbers collecting Rs 3.5 crore all over India, a figure that is lower than the opening of Abhishek Bachchan’s Players.
The big question then – Is Ajay Devgan a bankable star at the box-office? Let’s take a look at some of his films from 2010.
- Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge – Opened poorly, worked because the film was liked.
- Raajneeti – A multistarrer with popular stars like Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif.
- Once Upon a Time in Mumbai – Hit music, a production house known for marketing films well, Emraan Hashmi who has a huge fan-following of his own.
- Aakrosh – Non-starter at the box-office.
- Golmaal 3 – A successful comedy franchisee, Rohit Shetty as the director.
- Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji – Was a reasonably good success, but again a multi-starrer with Emraan Hashmi.
- Singham – Masala action film directed by Rohit Shetty
- Rascals – Opened poorly, disaster.
- Tezz – Shockingly poor opening numbers.
Apart from films directed by Rohit Shetty and a few multi-starrers, none of Ajay Devgan’s films – where he was the sole crowd puller – has worked at the box-office.
A bankable star is someone who guarantees a good initial, irrespective of the films content. Currently in Bollywood, there are only 6 such ‘superstars’ – Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan belong to the top league, followed by Akshay Kumar and Ranbir Kapoor.
Imran Khan and Emraan Hashmi have been consistent, but not quite in the same league as the Top 6.

Another thing tezz was jinxed from the moment the release date kept changing then the whole issue of the laila song you can tell there was problems within the production company if they stood by one release date and marketed the film well then it wouldve had a good opening. sadly nowadays film making is all about hype and marketing. a hit film doesnt mean the film is good likewise a flop doesnt mean the film is bad it just means not many ppl went to theatres to watch it.

ii my view indicine is the most vulgar and ghatia bollywood website i have ever seen … they don’t have their own sense of humour they just copy reviews and news from other websites.. in 2010-11 indicine praised ajay devgan for all his movies ..now his 2 movies did not work they started critisising him.. this thing happens to each and every actor no body can give only hit movies through out his career… in 2007-08-09 all salman khan movies failed , some were even disasters like main aur mrs khanna, god tussi great ho, yuvraaj, heroes etc and many. and look now he is at the top position.. similarly in 2010 both hrithik movies failed miserably. and now he holds the record of biggest opening ever.. similarly ra.one did not work last yr. many critisised him but don2 did reasonably well and was a hit.. all akshay movies failed in last 2-3 years.. but still he gave 2 great openings in terms of housefull and TMK ,although TMK did not sustain. and now housefull2 is 3rd most sustaining movie beating movies like don2 ,singham , bodyguard,agneepath and ready.. So this article by indicine is completely rediculous…. all these actors are great actors india has ever produced.. ajay devgan has got 2 national awards for his acting and its not a joke, its only his hard work… try to respesct and encourage all of them..
