There has always been a debate over the impact that banners like Yash Raj Films and Dharma Productions have had on Shah Rukh Khan’s career.
While a lot of people believe it’s Shah Rukh who has single-handedly made YRF and Dharma the banners that they are today, others argue SRK wouldn’t have become a top actor and more importantly an iconic romantic hero without directors like Yash Chopra, Aditya Chopra and Karan Johar.
In an interview with Filmfare, Shah Rukh was asked if he owes his success to the Chopras and Karan.
Crediting the directors of films like Darr, Baazigar, DDLJ, Karan Arjun, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and many more, SRK said ”Adi and Karan know me better as an actor. I believe in them and they believe in me and that is 90 percent of the battle won. There’s a comfort zone. I work equally hard as an actor with every one else. I give every role my best shot”
“But yes, as far as commercial success is concerned, I’m a star because of them since they made me a huge star. It’s thanks to Karan, Adi, Yash Chopra, Abbas-Mustan and Rakesh Roshan that I’m called a superstar”

@saksham What yashraj and dharma played huge role in srk’s career? Do u know what was position of yashraj and dharma in 90s before collaborating with srk. Even then superstars like amitabh (Silsila) Anil-rishi (vijay), dilip kumar (mashal), Anil (Lamhe) can’t lift yashraj career and they were not even in top 10 production house. It was mukta arts, RK banner, rajashree, film kraft, vishesh film, Trimurti banner, MKD banner, BMB, maruthi international, aftab group, cineyug etc were bigger banner than yashraj. They did not produced any movie out srk starrer for 10 year but srk has given many hits without them. Once srk made them biggest banner in Bollywood they started making small movie like dhoom hum Tum which had less risk in producing.
Dharma was not in top 20 banner before KKHH. They could not save maga star Amitabh’s sliding career in agneepath infact k c bokadia BMB production gave much needed big hit to amitabh in form of aaj ka Arjun. But see where dharma and where is BMB production.
It is srk’s humbleness and dignity that he owes his success to director producers and co star but truth is that srk’s rising career in 90s made yashraj and dharma.
My favourite actors- Akshay Kumar and Shahrukh Khan
Both are self-made
Both know how to respect others and love their fans
Both have gone through extreme hardships
Both of them melt into any role
Always free to experiment
Whenever they did a movie together, it was a blockbuster – Dil toh paagal hain, Heyy babyy, Om Shanti Om.

Dont know what the fuss is about. There has always been hit pairs of actors and directors. Amitabh worked with Yash Chopra, Manmohan Desai, Ramesh Shippy and others who gave him big hits. Govinda had a superhit jodi with David Dhawan. Jackie and Anil worked in a number of Subash Ghai movies. Salman with Sooraj Barjatya. And many other hit jodis. So better to just appreciate such jodis rather than discuss who made whom.
Out of all the directors SRK mentioned only Yash Chopra, a legend, was a veteran. The others were not so huge directors that one can say that they made SRK. As fas as Karan Johar and Aditya are concerned when SRK worked with them he was already a big star. So it was more of them getting benefited from the stardom of SRK rather the other way around.
Why did Yash Chopra work in so many movies with Amitabh? Just because he thought Amitabh was the best of the lot. And I am sure he continued to work with SRK only for the same reason.
And SRK has always been such a huge and popular star that he has primarily remained the first choice of many directors. He himself opted to work with Chopras and Johars. Otherwise if he had given his nod for Ek Tha Tiger and 3 Idiots (from the rumours I have heard he was the first choice) then people would have also been saying that SRK is hit today due to Kabir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani.
