Hrithik Roshan completes 15 glorious years in Bollywood

Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan has completed 15 glorious years in the film industry. A career that began with Rakesh Roshan’s ‘Kaho Naa.. Pyaar Hai’ way back in 2000 has been filled with ups and downs, but Hrithik continues to be one of the most popular superstars in India.

When Hrithik made his debut 15 years ago, on this very day, expectations were low as Rakesh Roshan’s previous film Koyla starring Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit was a box office disaster. Hrithik’s first film wasn’t even the most awaited debut of the year, as Amitabh Bachchan’s son Abhishek and Raj Kapoor’s granddaughter Kareena were also set to make their debuts in the same year.

But what followed on January 14 will be etched in the memory of not just movie buffs, but an entire generation of teenagers.. Hrithik Roshan took the nation by storm. Kaho Na Pyaar Hai was running to packed houses all over India and Hrithik was hailed as a complete package; someone with charisma, screen presence, great looks, unbelievable dancing skills and to top it all a fantastic actor.

15 Years of Hrithik Roshan

He was on the cover of every magazine, every brand in India wanted him to endorse their product. Roshan was also compared to senior and experienced actors like Shahrukh and Salman Khan.

And the Hrithik phenomena didn’t end there. During the awards season in January 2001, Hrithik’s performance was the highlight of all award shows. Kaho Naa.. Pyaar Hai bagged more than 100 awards and Hrithik was one of the first actors in history to win both the Filmfare Best Debut and Best Actor award in the same year.

Unfortunately for him, the fall was almost as sudden as his rise. Fiza, Mission Kashmir, Yaadein and a few forgettable films flopped at the box office. Most of these films were signed before he turned ‘superstar’ with KNPH. With directors trying to cash-in on his stardom, scripts were rewritten at the last minute to extend his role.

He hit the lowest phase of his career when Sooraj Barjatya’s Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon flopped at the box office. In Hrithik’s own words, the lowest point of his career was when “a magazine which had my face on the cover read ‘Finished’”.

Having seen it all at the age of 29.. Hrithik proved his detractors wrong when his second home-production, Koi Mil Gaya went on to be the biggest blockbuster of 2003. The film also won him the Filmfare Best Actor Popular and Critics.

Today, as Hrithik celebrates 15 years of his career, he has delivered outstanding performances in films like Lakshya, Jodha Akbar, Krrish, Dhoom 2, Guzaarish, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Agneepath and Krrish 3. He has hardly put a foot wrong in the last 10 odd years with two rare failures in Kites, an experimental film and Guzaarish, which is widely considered to be one of his best performances.

  • and what an extraordinary 15yrs it has been.from storming the nation with his debut film and deadly moves to bouncing from a horror phase to winning multiple best actor awards to twice breaking highest grossing film collection record to seamlessy playing highly contrasting characters everytime on screen hrithik roshan is one of the biggest asset of indian cinema

thank u hrithik for entertaining us for these 15yrs and may u continue entertaining us for many years and gv billions of indians a reason to smile

also thanx for this epic dialogue from krrish3 that keeps me going when I feel down and devasted.

”Buraai chahe jitni bhi taqatwaar kyu na ho
Uska antim sanskaar humesha achaai hi karti hai”

  • What a fantastic and glorious career it has been. He stays away from the limelight and doesn’t hype himself through his own PR machinery, but Hrithik rocks!

His Top 5 performances according to me

    1. Guzaarish
    2. Koi Mil Gaya
    3. Lakshaya
    4. Mission Kashmir
    5. Agneepath

  • Still remember the euphoria of KNPH..How I was madly in love with Ek pal ka jeena and Kyu Chalti hai pawan!!!

  • Hrithik’s best performances to me:
    1. KMG
    2. Jodha Akbar
    3. Agneepath
    4. Dhoom 2
    5. Krrish/Krrish 3

    PS: Have’nt watched Guzaarish.

  • The only below average film of HR in last 11 years was Bang Bang. All other were satisfactorily watchable!

I am proud of Hro that he has done a Film like “Kites”. Have you people seen how great Hrithik was in the film! Undoubtedly one of his best performances. The 2nd half was clumsy though. The chemistry between two leads and Cinematography worked very well.

Krrish 3 was an above average to just good movie for me. The story was simple. Some characters and a few scenes were copied from Some English Movies(Mostly from Xmen). The dialogues sound a bit outdated. Despite it flaws, it was still watchable. The climax itself deserve your money. The special effects were impressive. The performances were praise-worthy. And most importantly, it’s not a typical regular B’town movie.

As for KMG,lakshya,Krrish,D2,JA,Guzaarish,Agneepath,ZNMD, these were loved by majority of sensible audience.

  • The post KNPH craze fot Hrithik was as similar as the craze for Rajesh Khanna(The biggest craze b’wood has ever witnessed) but lasted for a short span.
    Source:- Internet

  • Look at the variety of roles he has done in his 15 year career, from a physically disabled Ethan mascarenhas of Guzaarish to the acrobatic Rajveer Nanda of BangBang, from a moneylover cool dude Arjun of ZNMD to the revenge seeking Vijay Chavan of Agneepath!!

    Versatility at its best!

  • but @indicine u should also publish a similar article on leonardo DiCaprio, matt damon, george cloony and my favourite christhoper nolan who hv done sone great work for world cinema for 2 and a hakf decades

  • Hrithik is one of the most hardworking actors of bollywood thats why he surpassed his contemporaries like abishek, fardeen, tushar etc…

still hrithik is one of best actor…

  • Lakshya still remains my favorite HR film. It was not just a film, it was an experience! Want Farhan to direct Hrithik again. Want to witness the same extra-ordinary experience again!

  • @Indicine

Dont bother about this “engineering genius” He is Sambuddha, trying to troll me. Thanks for making me famous Sambuddha!

  • Hrithik’s best perfomances for me…..
    1. KMG

  • 5 worst movies of hrithik-
    1. aap mujhe achchhe lagne lage
    2. yaadein
    3. main prem ki deewani hu
    4. mujhse dosti karoge
    5. krrish3

  • some crap hr movies which becomes hits – krrish 3, bang bang…
ya 2001-02 was worst period for hr….
but after that he never looks back…

  • @yuvraj: good list of Worst 5. But I would replace K3 by Bang Bang.

According to me least impressive 5 HR-movies
    1. Aap Mujhe Achhe Lagne Lage: the songs of the film were popular. But movie was bad. Was Ameesha Patel suffering from Ashthema in the film? Lol.

    2. Main Prem Ki Diwanee Hoon: Each and Everyone in the film(except Pankaj Kapoor) have overacted badly in the film. What was Barjatya trying to show by those animated Parrot and Dog? Only good thing was Hro-Bebo chemistry.

    3. Yaadein: It was a below average film for me. The movie was very predictable. Here also the best point was the chemistry between Hro and Bebo.

4/5. Bang Bang: Below average film to average movie. Poor script. Naive direction. Biggest and Best Thing: Hrithik , Hrithik and Hrithik

4/5. Mujhse Dosti Karogi: It had chartbuster music. Opened well. I didn’t find any chemistry between Rani and Hro. Movie was not that bad though.

  • @nipun

I love that film “Main prem ki deewani hoon.” Watch Kanan and Biswa’s review. It has epic punchline: “Problem kya hai??”

  • @ nipun- its your point of view but in my opinion bang performence of hr was better tham k3 and u are right in aap mujhe achche lagne lage amisha looked asthama pateint she was very poor actress. and hr overacted more than srk in this movie’s fight scenes. if u didnt find look again his expressions, songs were good i like 2 songs- title song and indaru pindaru but it was worst movie of hrithik.
