FAN Worldwide Box office Collections and Analysis

Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN has completed its 3rd week run at the domestic box office, with net collections of Rs 1.15 crore. The 21-day / 3 week total of the film now stands at Rs 84.10 crore, which is disastrous for a big film like FAN. The film is out of most theatres in Week 4.

The worldwide gross is Rs 183.5 crore, which means FAN is likely to be SRK’s first release since 2008’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, that will fail to cross the 200 crore mark worldwide.

Some points:

  • FAN was one of the best received films of the year critically and the opening of the film was huge – as it recorded the highest opening day of 2016 by a distance. The weekend was pretty good too, but the ‘good’ part of it ends there.
  • The downfall began on Monday and from then on it was a free fall at the domestic box office. The graph below illustrates the same. The first weekend business was Rs 52.35 crore and the lifetime business will be less than Rs 84.5 crore – which means the film added only Rs 32.15 crore after its first 3 days.

FAN Day Wise Collection Graph

  • FAN will be the least watched Shah Rukh Khan film in nearly a decade. The footfalls of the film are only higher than Shah Rukh’s Paheli – all films since then have been watched by more people.
  • FAN has also underperformed in the overseas markets. It’s the highest grosser of the year so far, but low when compared to the high standards set by Shah Rukh Khan over the years.
  • Below we have yet another graph of the last 12 SRK movies. FAN is his lowest domestic grosser since My Name Is Khan and when inflation is taken into consideration, it’s his lowest grosser in more than 10 years.

I know there is some disorder in your brain. Not to worry it’s the alcohol working on your brain. Akki and bhai have the record number of flops n disasters. It z shame that ranbir’s,ranveer’s,varun’s highest grossers are all higher than ur akki’s.even ajay z bigger than akki. After the debacle of empty house and custom I’ll c ur aukat.

  • Srk is not a people made star like Aamir. Aamir is baap of whole bollywood and srk is much behind aamir evwrywhere be it india, overseas, srk’s aukaat is nothing. Flopstar and fanless star srk must retire.

  • @Saksham I went to watch Baby with my whole family. It is one of the best movies Bollywood has ever made

  • @indicine you sometime repeat the same story time to time. I am not talking about this article about fan but there are many article in past which repeate time to time. And ignore many important articles. For example : you havenot published two important articles about udta punjab. One is three main leads shahid, alia and kareena have charged their half fees for udta punjab and 2nd is music right of udta punjab sold for record breaking price of 18 cr. So, i am totally dissapointed and started to lose faith and interest in your site. So, please be neutral.

  • Its critics reviews are too surprising! The film had a delightful first half. Barring a scene where Gaurav attacks Sid Kapoor , I loved almost everything about it. Then came the second half which brings serious boredom! It was filled with several loopholes. The overdose of Tom and Jerry kinda sequences annoyed me! The BGM even didn’t support the feel of movie. The climax was a bit moving!

I was left with 100 questions in my head after watching the film. The biggest one was.. ” why would someone take the film seriously? ”

But it was SRK who shined and gave life to the character of Gaurav! It has to be the best act by him since My Name Is Khan.

  • Still , I would say Fan never deserved the kind of response it has received, at least for me. It was unfairly criticised by majority of cinegoers and was overrated by critics!

  • @Harbhajan singh
I am fan of all 3 Khans, Ajay and Hrithik.
I teach lesson to all Akki fans when they try to insult other stars.
Akki should take a bowl and sit on the road to beg.

  • @Harbhajan 4:45 pm : You are living with an illusion. There is no proof that @Floppy is an SRKian. Still if you want to blame SRK fans for every negative comments against Akki and if you want to take revenge, bring it on please.

  • For those Akshay fans who are getting excited about this flop, I will just present facts for them to remember ground realities and the gap which still exists between SRK and Akshay even after this flop.

In domestic market following is the average per movie of both stars for the last five movies (including last movie flop of SRK and last movie superhit of Akshay)

SRK = 157 cr avg per film
Akshay = 96.2 cr avg per film

    Source:

    http://www.indicine.com/movies/bollywood/top-actors-bollywood-april-2016/

A 60 cr difference is a big enough difference.

And in international market the gap is even bigger.

And not just last 5 movies if we compare the overall career then SRK is still much ahead in hit and success ratio than Akshay. Recently Indicine had shared that too.

Before some Askhay fans start saying that EDX is the reason then before hand I will say that EDX is open for all. It has never been sole property of Khans and not even today. When Ajay and Hrithik had a big movie they released it on Diwali. Even this year Ajay is coming on Diwali. All u need to have is a very big movie and u r welcome to release it.

And we all know that Akshay is still chasing 150 cr whereas the top 2 (Salman and Amir) have crossed 325 cr and the 3rd and 4th (SRK and Hrithik) have crossed 225 cr. So not just with SRK there is a gap also between Akshay and Hrithik honestly.

Akshay is a very big star and have lots of respect for him. And I hate myself for doing such comparisons of two great stars but doing this just for some Akshay fans who are getting excited with just one flop of SRK.

Best wishes and expecting Akshay to cross 150 cr this time with HF3. Saying it genuinely and not as a taunt.

  • @ Indicine: Nice work by the way on this article. In addition to the details u normally share those graphs are an add on.

Didnt like the first graph though coz it shows Fan crashing. Lol.

    But good work.

  • 22000 voted in IMDB for a rating of 8 & 22000000 neither voted nor watched
    Any guesses – Who’s more powerful !!!

  • @Floppy
Haha, when did Akki fans bash other actor fans before themselves being poked.
And ya, it’s ur global king who needs to start begging on streets with a bowl as Baaghi is very soon going to beat ur global king’s cult classic ‘Fan’ and when is he planning to release Huggies.

  • @Floppy
So yesterday u call Ajay Devgn a flopstar and today ur telling that u are an Ajay Devgn fan. What’s seriously wrong with u?

  • @ANK yeah Nd seriously there is not just gap but a big gap between salman & SRK now . Not a taunt, just a reality . Hope you will accept it and after housefull 3 Akshay > SRK .

  • @Harbhajan no need to reply to @Floppy…A hater always remains a hater nd their words doesn’t matter . Be wise ! Just Talk about Akshay nd let them Feel the power of Akshay kumar .

  • @Floppy
Everyone bashes one or the other actor but no one can stoop as low as you moron. And look at SRK running away to avoid to clash after a disaster and Akki on the other hand dares to clash after a disaster. That’s the difference between Akki and SRK. After all the filth u wrote about Akki, even Akki fans can write such stuff about SRK, when there’s so much going around. But people have something called dignity unlike u.

    @xzone
I have the proof(although @floppy himself admitted it now). Go to the articles ‘Jungle Book set to cross Airlift’ and ‘SRK misses 200 Cr grosser Worldwide’ and read this guy’s comments. U’ll understand.

  • I am big SRK fan, and accept that success & failure is a part of our life in every field & SRK done great job in FAN, but postponed the movie RAEES to next year is very shameful for all SRK fans. Eid is the perfect date for RAEES and all SRK fans are waiting for the movie from one year. But they have no confidence on their movie & postponed the movie for next year. Its proved that there is nothing in the Movie RAEES & they are afraid from Salmans current stardom. If u believe that Raees is a good movie then be a man like Sanjay Leela Bhansali who dont care anyone & win the Clash in Bajirao Mastani V/s Dilwale, he was confident on his Movie. Its not Miya bhai ki daring Sharukh sir or not Baniye Ka dimag bcoz Kabil release in same date. Sorry to say but you hurt all of your true fans. Hope that you change your mind & release the Movie on Eid, 2016.

  • @ Sunny Akkiholic at 6:24 pm : Yes surely. Have accepted it before a number of times that Salman is a bigger star today definitely.

But what has that to do with the comment I made?

I will again say that I love Akshay as a person and as a star. He is an awesome person and a very fine actor as well. Will call him a legend just like other senior actors. His contribution to the Indian cinema for such a long successful career will always be remembered. His comic timing I have said it before is exceptional and found him second only to Govinda (who was master at comedy). Always look forward to his movies. His HF3 will do tremendous biz and Robot 2 will smash huge records and can easily be his first 200 cr grosser. So taking nothing away from him and my best wishes for him.

And honestly just like we have Mr. Fasal in our SRKian club who attracts alot of anti SRK comments, u as an Akshay fan do that job quite well also.

  • @ Harbhajan Singh at 6:19 pm : Dont know why r u so obsessed with this floppy? See u all the time talking about him.

He is for sure not a SRK fan.

  • @3:30pm Excuses King SpamZone

Abey idiot TJB may have had good Content but Pankha had RICH CONTENT n was directed by a content orientated director called Maneesh Sharma. Ps it also benefited from a partial holiday plus Pankha was a tribute film for each n every 1 of Kings 3.6 billion fans so why were neutral audiences attention needed…?

  • Pankha collapsed at the BO bcoz its design was created by the Hyderabadi Mechanical genius Complan Boy n we all know this idiot cant even get a bicycle to steer left…!

  • Pankha would have done better had they applied some sort of gimmick to it like buy a ticket to watch the movie n get a broken Pankha for free…

  • Lungi Bible prophecised 2016 as the year of the king but its turned out more like the year of the bakri

  • Isnt it ironic that when King strikes Gold at the BO then his fans take credit for its success not Deepika but when he delivers a maha crap then neutral audiences get blamed……

  • Neutral audiences dont feel ashamed for choosing Mowgli over Bakri Meeow this april- your money your choice

  • @ANK-I love reading your comments, but don’t appreciate what majority of the commenters in this site share. Boxoffice success and fan following are two different things. If “current” boxoffice success is the sole criteria of deciding one’s stardom then Aamir Khan is definitely the number one star. But no one except a small number of his fans say so because his fan following isn’t as huge as SRK and Salman neither is his whole career’s success ratio is good enough when compared with SRK. As an SRK fan I still believe SRK is still the biggest movie star in the world, confirmed still again by Forbes just a few days ago. Saying Salman is a bigger star than Shahrukh is like saying Vin Diesel is a bigger star than Leonardo Dicaprio or Will Smith which SRK fans will never believe. Salman fans like everything he does, whether it’s a crap film or not, or whether his acting was poor or not it doesn’t matter to them. But majority of SRK fans (except the ones here in indicine) aren’t like that, they aren’t satisfied with a mediocre film since he has set very high standards for himself in the past. So as a cinelover I still appreciate that SRK made a risky movie like Fan which of course the box office minded Indicine will never understand. Dil Se was also totally rejected in box office in India but now when people see it they say what a beautiful movie it is. But it is a flawed movie just like Fan but what is the point of being the most popular movie star in the world if you can’t take risk. Love SRK forever and proud of him. Sorry I had to disagree with you.
