Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN has completed its 3rd week run at the domestic box office, with net collections of Rs 1.15 crore. The 21-day / 3 week total of the film now stands at Rs 84.10 crore, which is disastrous for a big film like FAN. The film is out of most theatres in Week 4.
The worldwide gross is Rs 183.5 crore, which means FAN is likely to be SRK’s first release since 2008’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, that will fail to cross the 200 crore mark worldwide.
Some points:
- FAN was one of the best received films of the year critically and the opening of the film was huge – as it recorded the highest opening day of 2016 by a distance. The weekend was pretty good too, but the ‘good’ part of it ends there.
- The downfall began on Monday and from then on it was a free fall at the domestic box office. The graph below illustrates the same. The first weekend business was Rs 52.35 crore and the lifetime business will be less than Rs 84.5 crore – which means the film added only Rs 32.15 crore after its first 3 days.

- FAN will be the least watched Shah Rukh Khan film in nearly a decade. The footfalls of the film are only higher than Shah Rukh’s Paheli – all films since then have been watched by more people.
- FAN has also underperformed in the overseas markets. It’s the highest grosser of the year so far, but low when compared to the high standards set by Shah Rukh Khan over the years.

His lowest grosser as well as his movie with least footfalls in last 10 years. That shows it has been totally rejected. Deserved better than that for me at least but the audience verdict is final and so accepted.
SRKs position at 3 is shaky now. Other candidates will want to take a shot at it and Hrithik is at the top of that list. If MD goes on to become a big blockbuster then Hrithiks claim will get much stronger.
And so Raees doing very well is important for SRK now. Have faith in SRK and expecting Raees to do great biz whenever it releases.

Although disappointed by FAN BO performance-But SRK was pure class in FAN.This is why I always loved him and will love him always-Give him a challenging role and then see how great actor he is-
So the total nett collections of Fan in India is less than Brothers, GIB, Singh Iss Bling, Raajneeti, ZNMD, Taalash and Baby . All these movies except Brothers were successful and all of them could not do 100 CR . But ZNMD was Superhit, Raajneeti was Blockbuster, GIB was a Hit, SIB was a Semi Hit, Taalash was a Semi Hit/Hit and Baby was Above Average . It is easy to compare Baby and Fan . Both movies released on Non Holiday, both movies had superstars, both movies had no songs, both movies had no Mass appeal, both the movies had no female leads . In every perspective Baby is miles ahead than Fan . Baby was based on Cross Border Terrorism and girls and family audiences avoid such kind of movies . It received massive appreciation from critics as well as audiences . One of the Best Movies of 2015 . One of the Best Performances of Akshay Kumar . It was the Highest Grosser of 2015 for Akshay even though GIB, Brothers and SIB were more commercial than Baby . Fan was a Thriller and masses don’t like such kind of movies . It was based on A Fan and a Superstar . It received appreciation only from critics but not from audiences . Brilliant Performance by SRK after MNIK but it’s not the Best Performance of SRK and cannot be compared with Darr, Baazigar, VZ, Swades, CDI and MNIK . Most of the SRK fans were criticising Akki last year after the performance of Baby now I don’t know what they have to say after the disastrous performance of Fan .

When we consider all the factors like star power , hype, expectations , promotion , content , inflation , release size , footfalls & others then surely Fan has got to be a bigger disaster than BV (unless srk fans believe that ranbir is a much bigger star than srk ) which means that Fan is easily a much bigger disaster than even YLHJK (which is considered as the biggest ever disaster since 2000s) and so now it qualifies as one of the BIGGEST EVER DISASTERS in Bollywood history involving a top star if not the biggest.

But at this point, he is in peak phase in his career. No one can clash movie with his. Result aap ki samne hai….

In Maneesh Sharma’s Fan Shah Rukh the superstar was hounded by a fan also played by Shah Rukh Khan. Interestingly another film on release Nagesh Kukunoor’s Dhanak is also about Shah Rukh Khan being tracked down by two little children who are his fans.
No actor has played himself or variations of himself in the endeavour to pay a tribute to his own stardom, so often. Way back in 1998 Shah Rukh Khan played himself for the first time in a little-know Govinda starrer called Achanak. Two years later in M F Hussain’s Gaja Gamini, SRK again made a cameo appearance as himself.
In 1995 Shah Rukh’s friend journalist Samar Khan who has made documentary on SRK, cast the superstar as himself in Kuch Meetha Ho Jaye and in 2009 SRK again appeared as himself in Zoya Akhtar’s Luck By Chance. In 2011 debutant director Saahil Sangha persuaded SRK to play a brief role as SRK in Love Breakups Zindagi.
Priyadrashan’s Billu is a special case. Irrfan and Shah Rukh Khan were cast as two childhood friends one of whom, SRK, grows up to be a Bollywood superstar. Though SRK was named ‘Sahir Khan’ he was clearly playing himself, grooving it up with Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in three item songs.
Makarand Deshpande’s Shah Rukh Bola ‘Khubsoorat Hai Tu’ was about a flower seller who dreams of meeting her idol SRK. One day she does meet him at the traffic stop. The film was about how her life changes after that one chance encounter.
Besides Chandan Arora’s Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon, Shah Rukh Bola ‘Khubsoorat Hai Tu’ is the only film celebrating an actor’s stardom so unconditionally.
My message to all SRK fans: Kindly tell ur friend @floppy to stop writing all the unnecessary bad stuff about Akshay Kumar everywhere otherwise we’ll start abusing SRK even more badly(after all this is the best time for us to get revenge).
