FAN was the major release this weekend and the biggest release of year so far. Trade expectations weren’t too high this time around for the Shah Rukh Khan starrer, because FAN was a niche songless thriller. The film was expected to do business in the range of Rs 140 – 150 crore.
FAN opened well at the box office on Friday and critics too gave the film a thumbs up, calling it one of SRK’s best films in a long time. But exhibitors (theatre owners) had a different story to tell. At single-screens, the film took a start but couldn’t sustain. At multiplexes, it was expected to show phenomenal growth on Saturday, that did not happen either. Sunday too, the big jump hasn’t come.
The end result is, the film has found appreciation only with die-hard fans of the superstar. The neutral audience has instead opted to watch ‘The Jungle Book’, which is now matching the collections of FAN at quite a few multiplexes on Sunday.
Coming to the main point of the article, we expect FAN to collect somewhere around Rs 95 crore at the box office. Like Dilwale last year, FAN is a difficult prediction to make too, because the film could still sustain well on Monday and go on to be a decent grosser. But the trend over the weekend doesn’t seem to suggest the film will cross the 100 crore mark. If we don’t get it right, it’ll only be our second incorrect prediction of the year after Fitoor.

Keeping in view its genre, I had kept my expectations on the lower side for this movie from the very start but was still expecting 120 cr plus. So below 100 cr is not something I was expecting at all.
But I am still hoping that Indicine will be proven wrong and it will at least cross 100 cr.
In either case the role of Gaurav Chandana will remain very very special at least for me. In the past too some of SRKs very special performances have underperformed e.g. Dil Se, Swadesh, Paheli but they still remain very special for me regardless of their box office performance and so will remain Fan.
I think this prediction by indicine is too early. Have to wait till Monday to get a clear picture where it is going. It isn’t completely rejected and with no competition next week either this one might end up at 110- 115 CR which will be reasonable.

Watched FAN today with family.Disappointed,expected fipm better from srk.
First half was good with some delightful ,emotional as well as thrilling moments but the second half ruined it all for me.
Throughout the film I was imagining Aryan khanna to be SRK’s real life portrayal on screen and the makers intended to show that too but then I was made to believe that ARYAN(SRK) chasing his fan in Dubrovnik,on Delhi roads becoming a Superman. That Dubrovnik chase sequence was just a waste … Film became too boring in the 2nd half and logic went for a toss.I didnt felt for any character..
SRK gave a spirited performance,he was really good but I still believe this was not a masterclass act from him.I have seen better performances from him in MNIK,CDI,Swades etc.
He couldn’t make me emotional,I didn’t feel for any characters much ..now I don’t know whether it’s coz of his performance or the faulty screenplay.
Family felt the same,they got bored and exhausted!
Audience were indifferent to the film too,hardly any cheers.

As per others site only 8% occupancy raise from Saturday. That means audiences totally rejected FAN. Even Salman’s worst performed Jai Ho has collected 26cr on Sunday while FAN 16.5cr early estimates.
No one says anything when piku collects 75 crore..despite of being a BigB starrer..Fan is performance oriented film..collection doesn’t matter!
Even BigB had a bad phase..he had lots of flop movies but SRK had 2-3 underperformer.. He will have a strong comeback.. He is a legand!!
