Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN has flopped at the domestic box office, as the film has dropped by 5% on a holiday for ‘Mahavir Jayanti’. It was clear from the trend over the first weekend itself, that the drop over the weekdays was inevitable. But there was hope that FAN would sustain to reasonably good levels on Monday and then show decent growth on Tuesday (partial holiday). Both of those expectations weren’t met and the film crashed both on Monday and Tuesday.
The first week business of FAN will be around 72 crore, which will be poor for a film starring a major superstar like Shah Rukh Khan. More so when it was given a big release of 3500 screens. The film could finish with lifetime business of around 85 crore, which will make it the lowest grossing SRK film since My Name Is Khan in 2010.
The overseas box office too isn’t sustaining as well as it was expected to. A few countries like Pakistan and UAE are holding up well, but others have shown bigger than expected drops.
Overall, FAN has disappointed at the box office because the film was expected to perform at multiplexes. It was never a film that was meant to do well in the heartland of India, like Shah Rukh himself said, but even he would agree that it’s the target audience (read moviegoers at multiplexes at Urban centres) who have rejected the film Saturday evening onwards.

Still khan fans r hoping the film will cross 100cr mark…they r just blind, egoistic, self obsessed just like their idol….its a tight slap on srk & his fans face..it will not cross 85 cr net in domestic …..a BIG FLOPPPPPP….

SULTAN will not even be close to BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN which had everything going for it. Bajrangi bhakt, deaf mute cute girl chemistry, funny situations, most importantly Nawaz’s chand nawab. Nawaz have been salman’s lucky mascot (KICK). Kareena was in film to make sure female fans flock to boxoffice.
DANGAL is from non-hirani no name director. It might realistically go the TALAASH way. people still angry for PKs insults towards hindu gods and mythology. Aamir “intolerance” leaving the country spat. Aamir with 2 women has historically struggled TALAASH & many other. No sanjay dutt, no Boman, no hirani, no real lead actresses, it must be as good as CDI. If not 120-130 cr max despite christmas.
I honestly think both SULTAN and DANGAL will suffer if there is way too much wrestling. as much as they promote it, wrestling is no cricket, hockey or even boxing that generates enough thrills looking at scoreboard.
I cannot imagine watching both SALMAN and AAMIR in their movies purely based on wrestling for 2.5 hrs.
More 2016 failures are on their way imo despite major-holiday releases. Bollywood track record is poor if cricket (LAGAAN) or even hockey (CDI) is not in their sports movies. so far the result is failures (BROTHERS).
I’m just glad SRK finished “shakaal” masala RAEES with Dholakia, if SULTAN fails, RAEES will be a sleeper 200+cr BB.

Don’t get me wrong even Sultan can be atleast a big underperformed if not flop. It’s directed by Mr Ali Abbas Zafar infamous for Gunday the lowest rated Indian movie on IMDB. If Maneesh Sharma who is a much better director than Ali Abbas Zafar can create a disaster called Fan than imagine what would this guy create. Sultan is luckily a solo release on a holiday so it cannot be a washout but still if it earns less than 450 CR worldwide it cannot be called a hit. Also Raees is in danger, it’s clashing with Shivaay a magnum opus though Ajay Devgan is a smaller star Shivaay can be a surprise hit it it’s content is good. Also Ranbir Kapoor’s Aye Dill hai Mushkil is also slated for a Diwali release although it seems that SRK will convince Karan Johar to move it forward. Raees Stars Pakistani actress Mahira Khan RSS has got another point to target SRK.

The films are not earning enough because of these reasons.
1. The rates of tickets have been hiked, normally a middle class family can only afford once of twice in six months for a movie.
2. The appraisals have been poorly done due to share market crash, people left with less money.
3. It all started after Salman PRDP when people flocked to the cinema halls to watch the performance of Salman Khan in a similar way as in BB… but the movie was huge disappointment. This had made people to take revenge by choosing the selective films. Now no Indian movie could cross 200 Marks that is sure.
4. I think very few movies are now a days being made with keeping mind of the middle class. The middle class wants there actors should be like them not arrogant and ostentatious.
5. Salman became hit After Dabang because it was made on the background of a village and people could relate themselves with the actor.
6. Now SRK, Salman and Aamir and other Bollywood deeply rooted into materialistic world so common man finds it difficult to have any attachments with them.
7. Any way with the advent of good foreign cinema has changed the taste of Indian viewers, They have seen an Indian director Ramoji could compete with Foreign film with ‘Bahubali’ so why cannot our Bollywood try to make that kind of film rather than go for the masala based films.
8. Bollywood have potential but they have no willingness to change. this is the reason for the failure and nothing else.
sharukh khan makes cheap cartoons movies to make some money, he dont care about the fan’s or any members. Srk is nothing infront of Akki and hitrik roshan. Amir khan and salman khan and srk should be go out of bollywood industry. But those types only makes money and they are old. Yet, the good reviews and word of mouth have failed to lift this Shah Rukh Khan outing. Jungle book is the biggest crosser and airlift and finally srk has been beaten out by both movie. Srk step out and get out of your chair open your mouth on tv why did you if you won’t? Keep hiding like a bitch!
@Acharyan i am not really sure whose fan u are, pretending to be salman fan, but whoever your idol is (even if he is salman), i feel very bad for him as he can never come close to aamir’s feet in statdom. In stardom aamir is unbeatable. Like it or not, nothing will change this fact. Lez salman do talaash and release on non holiday, it will not earn 80 cr. So better shut up and respect aamir who is much more popular and loved than salman.
