The writing is on the wall for Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN, as the superstar, who has never delivered a outright flop after Paheli in 2005 – is facing his first rejection in more than a decade.
When a film featuring a top superstar like SRK releases, it comes with a minimum guarantee. In today’s times, the very least you can expect is a 100 crore grosser, but FAN will fall well short of that number and could finish with lifetime domestic business of around 85-90 crore.
The trend is quite similar to Akshay Kumar’s Brothers last year. That film had also collected Rs 52 crore in its first weekend, but held on a little more strongly on Monday with collections of Rs 6.23 crore. Brothers finished with lifetime business of Rs 82 crore.
The reason for the poor performance of the film is hard to comprehend right now, because FAN has been universally rejected. Even Shah Rukh’s West Bengal stronghold has loosened because the film has dropped even at his best circuit – where Dilwale was outstanding for nearly two weeks.
The box office rejection of the film is even more shocking when you consider the fact that FAN is one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year after Neerja and Airlift. Positive reviews from critics has not convinced the audience to go watch the film in theatre.
Like we reported yesterday, the 2nd week collections of ‘The Jungle Book’ are now on par with the first week collections of FAN and some exhibitors have increased the shows of the Hollywood film.
The silver lining for Shah Rukh Khan and FAN is the kind of opening the film took last Friday. The fan-base that he has earned over the years through his films, talent and hard work, will always be with him. But it’s the ‘trust factor’ with the neutral audience that has taken a beating in the last couple of years, and it’s that trust that he needs to earn back.
The actor now needs a good film that will find universal acceptance. A film that not only opens well, but has a long and successful word-of-mouth run. And he needs it as quickly as his next release – Raees.

Director of Fan Manish Sharma is a successful director… he given films like Band Baja Barat & Ladies vs Ricky Behal which are commercially successful at Box office.
Now he made a movie Fan…which got Green Signal from critics as well but failed badly at BO.
Now you guys hoping Raees that public will accept Raees which is directed by critically acclaimed director Rahul Dholkia…?
Come on man his not single movie went past 10crs at BO.

@Rohitene, Band Baaja Baarat was his only success. Ladies vs Ricky Behl failed. Shuddh Desi Romance first weekend was good.
We mentioned in quite a few of our articles and QnA too. Maneesh Sharma films only appeal to a tiny section of the audience. Not including Jabra song was a blunder.

Feeling sad for Srk.Everytime he tries something different it falls way below expectations in terms of collections.Movies like Swades Fan Paheli My Name is Khan or even Billu were made with good intentions to try something different but unfortunately the audience still prefer watching CE or OSO over such experimental films.Can’t blame him if he signs another movie with Farah or Rohit.After all as a producer or an actor who needs to maintain his stardom BO collections is a must.It’s us who need to be blamed when movies like Fan(it isn’t a classic or masterpiece but certainly deserved better collection than Dilwale) doesn’t trend well or recover its costs.

I have clearly mentioned many time that srk being a negative and grey shade character is outrightly reject by his core fan bases too. There is no doubt that with films like darr,baajigar he tested huge acclaim and boxoffice success but there all were before DDLJ. DDlj made srk the biggest star among female audiences and his romantic film were huge success because of this factor also. Having female fans helps you to find huge family audience who want to watch your films. Thats why srk films which were away from romantic angle were not find success at bo in 90s and early 2000s. His anti hero films in these period like duplicate,don series were not able to be huge success so it going with fan. Raees also not looking promising for me because of his mafia character. Srk should come with a film which shows him in positive side with wonderfully scripted film. I also love to see srk do a complete romantic film with a talented actress opposite him. He tried with JTHJ but katrina performance were big let down in that love story while srk was usual superb in that film.
Major problem is also that for srk that earlier in 90s when his other films were flopped, he along with YRF & kajol bounce back at top, but those combination proved to his biggest failure in last 8 years as with Kajol he failed with Dilwale, with yrf fan also failed. Also with both these two he also given two under performer like MNIK & JTHJ as well. Upcoming line up of srk is superb but the problem is the expectation of his fans and trade with his movies is so high that without a good release period and super content it will create big hurdle for him. But as we know srk has achieved every thing in his career so he has capability to bounce back.
@fasal kerala, when haters are trolling for srk here in last 3 days i feel back for his fans like challa,ank,xzone etc but you are the one who make me enjoy these trolling. I just want to say you that Fan less Aamir film with same genre collected 93cr in 2012, but 3.7 billion fan srk film which are dedicated to his fans is looking set to stay below Talaash lifetime figure. Regarding Dangal i promise to you that no one can stop that movie to topple 2016 because apart from aamir intolerance remark negativity everything associated with Dangal gonna positive.

This once again proves how big a disconnect does these supersmart critics have with the audience.. the more they praise a movie n acting the less ppl watch it.. jus bcoz srk does sumthing different than what he has been doin offlate dsnt make it gr8 acting n super movie.. the acting at times was over the board reminding of ramjaane n movie was stupid after a while.. past reputations n bias shd not be considered while reviewing a movie.. or else u’ll make a crap of a person like krk seem more sensible!!
As for srk .. he is a legend jus that he has got carried away with the number game n is not doing justice to his potential! Baby:One of the finest movies of 2015.Akki delivered his career best performance still couldn’t cross 100 crores and was an underperformer even in overseas.Opening was less than 10 crores shows the true stardom of Akshay.
Tamasha:Haven’t yet watched it but again the movie won accolades with brilliant performance by the lead stars.Still turned out to be only an average grosser
Drishyam:Rated 8.5+ in IMDb.Was considered to be the return of actor Ajay who had been overshadowed by the commercial potboilers.Took a below average opening and just managed to recover costs.
Guzaarish:One of the biggest disasters the Industry ever witnessed.As Salman said not even a fly entered the cinema hall to watch Hrithik’s best performance till date despite incredible reviews

As per KRK YRF is the factory of flop films since maha crap dhoom3(2013) all YRF film floped at boxoffice not only in domestic but also in oversease too because people lost trust in YRF like before was. Last 3year YRF failed to earn profit then decided to cast srk n salman next project, so called big banner YRF yet to give 100cr without khans where Young actor with other banners gave many time. Even YRF failed to profit with SRK now 1big film sultan left with salman, YRF bad luck continues if SRK decide to clash Raees with Sultan then YRF was made and destroyed by SRK and Finally what KRK said YRF me sirf star bhikte hai a66i kahani/film nehi
