The writing is on the wall for Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN, as the superstar, who has never delivered a outright flop after Paheli in 2005 – is facing his first rejection in more than a decade.
When a film featuring a top superstar like SRK releases, it comes with a minimum guarantee. In today’s times, the very least you can expect is a 100 crore grosser, but FAN will fall well short of that number and could finish with lifetime domestic business of around 85-90 crore.
The trend is quite similar to Akshay Kumar’s Brothers last year. That film had also collected Rs 52 crore in its first weekend, but held on a little more strongly on Monday with collections of Rs 6.23 crore. Brothers finished with lifetime business of Rs 82 crore.
The reason for the poor performance of the film is hard to comprehend right now, because FAN has been universally rejected. Even Shah Rukh’s West Bengal stronghold has loosened because the film has dropped even at his best circuit – where Dilwale was outstanding for nearly two weeks.
The box office rejection of the film is even more shocking when you consider the fact that FAN is one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year after Neerja and Airlift. Positive reviews from critics has not convinced the audience to go watch the film in theatre.
Like we reported yesterday, the 2nd week collections of ‘The Jungle Book’ are now on par with the first week collections of FAN and some exhibitors have increased the shows of the Hollywood film.
The silver lining for Shah Rukh Khan and FAN is the kind of opening the film took last Friday. The fan-base that he has earned over the years through his films, talent and hard work, will always be with him. But it’s the ‘trust factor’ with the neutral audience that has taken a beating in the last couple of years, and it’s that trust that he needs to earn back.
The actor now needs a good film that will find universal acceptance. A film that not only opens well, but has a long and successful word-of-mouth run. And he needs it as quickly as his next release – Raees.

So Fan has dropped by 66 % from Sunday to Monday . I saw Fan and it is a mediocre movie . SRK’s performance is absolutely brilliant but the screenplay is crap especially in the 2nd half . The failure of Fan brings one thing in light the critics ratings should not be taken seriously . For ex. Grand Masti in 2013 got extremely negative reviews but the public accepted and it did 100 CR with a cast like Vivek, Aftab and Ritesh . Also the critical response of Fan is not as solid as Airlift, Neerja and K&S . So Fan will not do 100 CR and this will be a massive failure for SRK . As I said before Fan will be a treat for SRK fans as they will see him playing a fan and I said they will see their own reflection in Gaurav . But I always said neutral audience will find it really difficult to accept Fan as not everybody is a fan of SRK . People cannot call Fan good just by looking at the performance of SRK . I feel Swades, Asoka and Paheli were more risky than Fan . Also it will be a shame to compare Fan with DDLJ, KKHH, K3G, Darr, Baazigar, KHNH, Swades, CDI, RNBDJ and MNIK . So even after Fan MNIK is the Best movie and performance of SRK in this decade and I think it will not change in a long time . The failure of Fan also proves one thing – The EDX Factor . After MNIK SRK had 6 consecutive Festival releases – 3 on Diwali, 2 on Christmas and 1 on Eid and he was coming back to Non Holiday after 74 Months and the result is less than 100 CR and a Flop . So all the fans of Khans have to appreciate and acknowledge the success of Hrithik, Ajay and Akshay on Non Holidays .

Yrf was the biggest production house of bollywood when srk was in his mother’s womb. Rajesh Khanna, Big B have worked with yrf in many blockbuster movies before srk debut. Before ddlj no one aware of who is srk, they would have chosen anyone in random to make it blockbuster, coz the plot of ddlj was phenomenal, srk was lucky to be a part of it

Hence proved , No one gave a hit in non holiday & non festive season unlike his name is Hrithik Roshan. ? All 3 khans last non festives movies are disaster at box office. (salman -Jai ho, Aamir-Talash & Dhobi Ghat , SRK -Fan) Then, there is Hrithik Roshan who is competition with khans releasing his movie in non holiday. Now, its proved than khans are how overrrated.
