The writing is on the wall for Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN, as the superstar, who has never delivered a outright flop after Paheli in 2005 – is facing his first rejection in more than a decade.
When a film featuring a top superstar like SRK releases, it comes with a minimum guarantee. In today’s times, the very least you can expect is a 100 crore grosser, but FAN will fall well short of that number and could finish with lifetime domestic business of around 85-90 crore.
The trend is quite similar to Akshay Kumar’s Brothers last year. That film had also collected Rs 52 crore in its first weekend, but held on a little more strongly on Monday with collections of Rs 6.23 crore. Brothers finished with lifetime business of Rs 82 crore.
The reason for the poor performance of the film is hard to comprehend right now, because FAN has been universally rejected. Even Shah Rukh’s West Bengal stronghold has loosened because the film has dropped even at his best circuit – where Dilwale was outstanding for nearly two weeks.
The box office rejection of the film is even more shocking when you consider the fact that FAN is one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year after Neerja and Airlift. Positive reviews from critics has not convinced the audience to go watch the film in theatre.
Like we reported yesterday, the 2nd week collections of ‘The Jungle Book’ are now on par with the first week collections of FAN and some exhibitors have increased the shows of the Hollywood film.
The silver lining for Shah Rukh Khan and FAN is the kind of opening the film took last Friday. The fan-base that he has earned over the years through his films, talent and hard work, will always be with him. But it’s the ‘trust factor’ with the neutral audience that has taken a beating in the last couple of years, and it’s that trust that he needs to earn back.
The actor now needs a good film that will find universal acceptance. A film that not only opens well, but has a long and successful word-of-mouth run. And he needs it as quickly as his next release – Raees.

Srk is not dominating the feelings is something new, I need a clarification when & where srk dominated
1994 HAHK 69 cr record srk broke in 2007 with OSO collecting 79 cr, srk has never given an ATBB through out his career it clearly indicates srk have never created any box office havoc in his peak days between 200-2007. He was trying to break Salman record & it took 13 long year to break is this dominance I don’t think so coz after 2007 he is not even top 3 hritik is ahead of him from last decade.
After 2007 just once & it’s CE which broke 3 idiot record to become the all time highest grosser but krish 3 & than Dhoo3 beat the record twice within a gap of 5 month, from above information we conclude that srk have never created any miracle in box office he has given few blockbuster only like Anil Kapoor & Govinda. Still if we go through record than Anil Kapoor is ahead of srk in no of hits.
Salman & Amir r the real dominator of box office, breaking & rebuilding box office records with each next one.

Though in recent time i used to be a silent visiter on indicine but this is indeed a interesting comparison between three khans films. For me if i have to pick one movie who performed best among these three than it should be Talaash all the way. The only advantage talaash had was Aamir first commercial film since 3I and the multi heroine factor.
But the major disadvantage are.
1. Postponed the movie from Jun 2012 to end of Nov 2012. Aamir due to SMJ changed the release of his film from most lucrative period i.e. post ipl to worst release period i.e. late Nov 2012. They also release teaser earlier in jan 2012 than changed the release date which somehow lost the interest among neutral audiences.
2. The concept of thriller was looking promising from promos but the climax which shows Kareena as a ghost disappointed many and the suspense was leaked from the very first day of its release in social media which are the most target audience for this movie
3. But apart these two the biggest drawback was release time, the film release after 2 weeks of JTHJ & SOS whom combine net india boxoffice was close to 200cr, plus from second week it had a mass entertainer K786 which had probably best recevied music album and than 3 weeks before Massy Dabangg2. The last week of november is such a bad time to release a film that despite being 3 years talaash lifetime of 93 cr is biggest success of that particular week as movies like bullet raja,happy ending and Tamasha were way behind than Talaash figure.
Among these three without a doubt Jai ho had the safest release period, it came after 5 weeks of Dhoom3, Salman comeback after 1 year and a remake with social message in it but it was poorly received film from critics among these three. But Salman strong hold in mass circuit helped film to cross 100 cr at boxoffice
I haven’ seen Fan yet, but it was quite evident from promos that film would probably fail to find it audience from non-srk fans though Srk promised to give one of his remarkable performance in the film from trailer. The 19cr opening was terrific with this genre movie that also with just 4 month gap. But the loopholes in script stopped it rake moolah among boxoffice.
Whatever the pros and cons the thing is clear that all these three collected 25-30cr less in there lifetime figure as per minimum expectation of fans and trade.

Even after giving a good film like FAN, SRK failed. Feel for him. I think he should get back to what he’s good at, i.e., hardcore romantic films. Who knows we can get the old crowd puller SRK back?
Srk should accept now that after his intolerance remark neutral junta has stopped watching his movies and this is going to be the trend for raees as well. As there are high doubts of Raees crossing 100 cr. in case of clash with any movie be it shivaay or dishoom. (With out clash maximum 150cr. for raees). Important thing to see now is Dangal will even cross 100 cr. Or not. At the present does not look like it. So undoubtedly highest grosser of the year will again be given by salman khan or hritik roshan.

Collections are shocking.. but its ok. I will continue to support SRK, even more now, when he is going through a low phase.. he will need his fans more than ever to support him.
I also believe he will comeback very very strongly. Have that confidence and faith in him. If a commoner from Delhi can come and become top star.. this is just a mere blip. The best of directors will still be queuing up to work with him.

Yes a SRK movie at a minimum should have guaranteed 100 cr business. So around 90 cr will be a huge disappointment and was not expected at all.
As u mentioned it is his flop after a long time (Paheli) and credit at least needs to be given to him for delivering continuously for such a long period. But people will consider it past now and he needs to deliver it big now with Raees to earn that “trust” factor back. I have confidence and full faith in him that Raees will deliver it.
I have admitted it before and still no shame in admitting that Salman and Amir are clearly ahead of him today. And SRK now needs to deliver few biggies if he wants to get that top position back (which he held once). But I really hope that in this rat race he doesnt start doing movies like HNY and Dilwale again. His main focus still should remain on doing different movies like Fan. When u will try something different it can fail but shouldn’t lose hope.
Looking forward to his Raees and especially his dwarf role in Anand Rai movie.
