Don 2 opened to a good response on Friday, picked up at high-end multiplexes on Saturday and ended it’s first weekend with a spectacular Sunday.
On Sunday, most multiplexes were sold-out for the entire day, including the morning shows. Even single-screens, where collections fell on Saturday, showed a slight jump in business on Sunday.
Weekend collections including non-hindi versions are below
- Friday – 14.5 crores
- Saturday – 15 crores
- Sunday – 18 crores
- Weekend total – 47.5 crores
It’s the third biggest weekend after Bodyguard and Ra One in 2011. The weekend business is comparable to last year’s Dabangg, but when the final collections come in, Don 2 could fall just short of Dabangg by a few lakhs. Don 2 benefited from higher ticket prices, 3D and regional versions. While Dabangg as a film had tremendous appeal at smaller centers.

Ra.One could’ve easily collected 145-150 crores despite children oriented sci-fi screenplay & nothing for adults. NEGATIVE media & extreme anti-SRK bashing costed Ra.One 25-30 crores at BO. Ra.One was not engaging & did not connect but it was entertaining throughout. something cannot be said of 90% of Bollywood movies.
Don-2 is a very good film. It should be around 120 crores. Reasons why it wont reach 150 crores because of “ITEM NUMBERS” missing. After Jail break, SRK needed to do “khaike paan banaras wala” which would’ve ruined the whole movie but entertained the audience.
Item numbers alone fetch 25 crores at the BO. just look at garbge salman remakes. Dabanng had it. Ready had it. Bodyguard had it & future Sallu releases will have it. Its a cheap gimmick of coning public in the name of PAISA VASOOL.

Whether DON 2 touches 100 Cr mark or not, the fact is that this is an excellent movie. Good Acting by SRK and Boman Irani, Excellent Actions, Technically nicely made movie. Unlike Bodyguard and Singham, it may not be appreciated in small centres, where the people like their hero fighting single handedly with many gundas, breaking their bones without hurting himself. But the Multiplex audience and overseas audience will definitely appreciate DON 2. I also liked Bodyguard and Singham due to excellent actions, but I feel DON2 is class ahead. This year I also liked the Dirty Picture due to its boldness and excellent performance by Vidya Balan and Naseeruddin. Performance by Vidya is I think the best by a leading lady in any Hindi movie in year 2011.
