Dishoom is sustaining well at the box office, as the film has collected 2.5 crore on its 8th day (official figures not released). 2nd Friday business was always going to be crucial, because a big drop would’ve meant a total of around 60-62 crore (which was our LBO prediction).
But a strong hold has ensured that the film will cross the Rs 65 crore mark by the end of its run. If the film shows good growth on Saturday and Sunday, it could amass Rs 70 crore at the domestic box office - which will be a very good total.
Some points:
- Dishoom is the biggest success and grosser of Rohit Dhawan’s career as director. His first film ‘Desi Boyz’ opened well, but failed to sustain in the long run. It finished with lifetime business of 46.5 crore in 2011 and was a ‘below average’ grosser.
- Dishoom was the third biggest opening of Varun’s career after Dilwale (21 crore) and ABCD 2 (14.3 crore). In other words, it was his biggest solo non-franchise opener. After a poorly received trailer, the opening was above trade expectations.
- At the time of its release, Dishoom managed to get the 6th highest opening (Read More) and 7th highest opening weekend of 2016 (Read More)
- Dishoom will be the 7th consecutive success of Varun Dhawan’s career. His success ratio will remain at 100%. (Read more) Note: In the unlikely scenario that the film drops and fails to cross 60 crore, this point will be updated.
- With collections of $3 million (still counting), Dishoom is the highest solo overseas grosser of Varun’s career. Ahead of ABCD 2 ($2.82 million) and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania ($2.3 million). Dilwale remains his highest grosser, but the comparison is unfair because it featured a top superstar like Shah Rukh Khan.
- Dishoom will also be the sixth 100 crore worldwide grosser for Varun Dhawan. All his films, except Main Tera Hero and Badlapur, have crossed the 100 crore worldwide mark.
- For Jacqueline Fernandez, Dishoom will be the 7th highest career grosser after Kick, Housefull series, Race 2 and Brothers.
- For John Abraham, Dishoom will be the 4th highest grosser after Housefull 2, Race 2 and Welcome Back. All were multi starrers, Dishoom is no different.

Interesting that you are calling Dishoom as a solo success for Varun but a multi-starrer for John. On the contrary, I clearly felt that John is the lead actor (with Varun serving as a mere sidekick) while watching the movie. I think you are grossly underestimating John because of the failure of his no-frills action film Rocky Handsome. However, he really has given 50+ crore grossers in recent times (SAW, Madras Cafe came close) and has a reach among the masses due to films like SAW/WB etc.

Varun Dhawan and John Abraham starrer ”Dishoom” released in 3000 screens in Indiawhich was fairly wide release. Film was solo release and has two open weeks to perform.Film opened to below par numbers of 30% and during the day it failed to grow big. Filmwas average everywhere with rather better numbers in Rajasthan, Gujarat and UP. Film collected strictly average 11.05 cr net ton day one. Film grew marginally on day two with 12.02 cr nett total as film struggled in urban centers.Film had decent growth on Sunday with collection of 14.25 cr nett. Film needed a strong hold on Monday but it had drop of 55% or more inmost of regions. Film collected 4.85 cr nett which was below par. Film added 4.30 cr nett on Tuesday, 3.67 cr nett on Wednesday and 3.20 cr nett on Thursday. Film collected 53.34 cr nett in 1stweek which was just decent.It needed good performance in 2nd week considering big clash next Friday and it has started well on 2nd Friday with 2.35 cr nett number. Film will jump over 2nd weekend and it should cross 10 cr nett.Film collected 55.69 cr nett in 8-days which is average considering release size and cast. Now it needs solid 2nd week in order to sail through as it”s 84 cr budget will be tough to recover. As of now it seems to heading for drop on weekdays and average lifetime business of 70 cr nett, similar to what we predicted.

Sultan also did around 300 cr just because of dishoom. large numbers of audience went to cinema just before of its release. still dishoom did well.
It will be above average on 70 cr. I don’t think calling it semi-hit or hit will be good as it released on wide screens plus 3 popular stars and a budget of 70 cr …!
