Mohit Suri’s upcoming film ‘Half Girlfriend’, which was previously scheduled to release on April 28, has now moved to a new date. The announcement came a few hours after Karan Johar announced that ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’ would release on the same day as ‘Half Girlfriend’.
The Arjun Kapoor starrer will now release on May 19 2017, which is an interesting date because the film will be out just before the end of the IPL – just like Aanand L Rai’s Tanu Weds Manu Returns, which released on May 22 last year.
Advantages of releasing Half Girlfriend on May 19:
- It’ll be as good as a ‘Post-IPL’ release as next year’s IPL season is expected to conclude on May 21. It’ll be the same period as Tanu Weds Manu Returns which grossed more than 150 crore net in India and 250 crore worldwide.
- GST (Goods and Service Tax) is likely to be implemented by then. The All-India average entertainment tax is expected to fall from the current average of 39-40%. While more details on the new tax system is awaited, the film is expected to benefit from reduction in entertainment taxes.
- The exam period will be over.
- Half Girlfriend will release 3 weeks after ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’.
Disadvantages of the release date:
- It releases a week after Milan Luthria’s ‘Baadshaho’, which is a keenly-awaited film too. It reunites Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi with their ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai’ director.
‘Half Girlfriend’ is one of the biggest films of 2017. It has a fresh star cast (Arjun and Shraddha), Mohit Suri is on a career high after the super-success of ‘Aashiqui 2’, ‘Ek Villain’ and Chetan Bhagat films are commercial and appeal to a larger section of the audience. The music album is expected to deliver a couple of chartbusters too.
Looking forward to this.. should be good fun. I have not read Half Girlfriend book, but liked 2 States.
All movies made on Chetan bhagat’s novel are good. So, half girlfriend is looking Like a sure shot winner at boxoffice.

Sureshot blockbuster. People underrating Arjun are Sid and Varun fans.. Wait and see, he will be a big star in the next few years. His acting is better than chicken voiced non actors like Sid and Varun.
2nd 100 crore film for AK. He doesn’t go wrong in Chethan Bhaghat films…..

This release date is quite good as it will have a solo release . I have not read HG but most of the people have criticised the writing . So Mohit Suri has to make some changes in the script to make it more appealing to the audience . Arjun is playing a Bihari middle class guy who is a basketball player so let’s hope he is able to give a solid performance . Shraddha is playing the role a rich girl who is also a basketball player . Shraddha should look convincing while playing basketball . !!!!!!!!!!
The movie is now having a good release date going to be 2 100crore film for arjun much bigger than 2 states love you arjun

Arjun Kapoor has so far a good career and his acting also improving. I liked Ki & Ka and he was the sole reason for me to make it a good watch.
I hope he keep choosing wonderful and different script.

I am a chetan Bhagat fan but I was kind of dissappointed after reading Half Girlfriend.. May be expecting a 2 States type book nevertheless it will be interesting to see whether they will make a better movie out of a average book(by C. B) standard.. And I still fill kriti sanon would have been a better choice for as she is taller and prettier than shraddha….

However, 3 idiots was largely occupied by Hirani’s creativity also. It was inspired not adapted. Its the film of all seasons.
