The Budget of Veer

Veer is Salman Khan’s most ambitious project to date and the film produced by Vijay Galani and presented by Eros Entertainment, has a lot at stake when it releases worldwide on January 22nd 2010.

According to Eros, the official budget of Veer excluding the marketing expenses is around 40 crores. A further 5 – 10 crores is expected to be spent on aggressively marketing the film, right up to its release.

The budget is undoubtedly on the higher side, but with mass-appeal and enough buzz since the release of the theatrical trailer, Veer is likely to break records during its initial weekend.

Veer directed by Gadar Ek Prem Katha director Anil Sharma, releases on the same day as Ram Gopal Varma’s Rann starring Amitabh Bachchan.

  • Himanshu: ofcourse it’s ok.. even the best movies in bollywood, hollywood, tollywood didn’t satisfy 100% of ppl in this world.. you find a movie which flopped liked by lots of ppl in this world for some reason.. could be the script, could be the performance of the cast, could be the direction or the cinematography, etc. but you can’t hv any percentage of the no. of ppl who loved them coz you you can’t chat with everyone in this world and ask them their opinion.. right? and you find some ppl trashed some blockbuster movies at the box office, as well as the reviewers, movies such as OSO for Shahrukh, JTYJN, Golmaal, Hera Pheri the 2 parts, Welcome and others.. even critics would praise a movie and it flops e.g. Kurban.

Some ppl consider themselves as “smart” when they “blindly” love any kachra movie just because it won at the box office.. hahaha.. lots of idiots on this website.. I don’t mean you Himanshu.. I meant some others here!!

With me.. I loved many bollywood movies which didn’t work at the box office and I already mentioned them many times.. with Mangal Pandey.. I loved Aamir Khan’s role, his acting, his look, and the script although it was a bit slow. Asoka.. a brilliant movie in direction, production, cinematography, as well as Shahrukh & Karina’s performance, and the songs.. the movie didn’t lack anything.. but unfortunately.. it lacked some good audience to watch it and value it as it deserved.. not some stupid viewers who were just “blind” while watching it!

  • interview by sallu and veer team:
Salman Khan on the film he started scripting 20 years ago

IMAGES of Salman Khan in Mel Gibson inspired attire have started doing the rounds. After the huge success of Wanted and the cold response to Main Aur Mrs Khanna and London Dreams, everyone’s curious about the actor’s next big flick, which happens to be a period film. Set in the 19th century, the film is about an imaginary town called Pindhari that is fighting for independence from the British and other Indian rulers.

The bravest of the warriors in Pindhari is none other than Veer, played by Salman Khan. While everyone knows that this story has been penned by Khan himself, not everybody knows that he actually started to write this script 20 years ago. “The film needed to be made on a very large scale and at that time the film budgets were not so large so I just stored the script away,” Khan says. In fact, the script was written before he started acting and he wanted to direct this film, “But people told me to act and not direct, so here I am.”

. So when Khan went to him with the script, Sharma promised to shoot in less than 60 days. (The shoot went on for 140 days.)
Was this the reason that we hear of the numerous fights between the actor and the director during the shoot? “Of course we had fights. We had a lot of arguments but that was only because of creative differences and that’s healthy. It was nothing personal,” clarifies the actor.

The film will also introduce a new heroine, Zarine Khan, and her striking resemblance to Katrina is extremely obvious in the promos. Khan rubbishes this right away: “If she looked like Katrina then I would be the first person to notice,” But why not take Kaif or another well known face instead of a new one? “Katrina and I have done Yuvvraaj together and you saw what a success that was. She was also very busy around the time that we were shooting. We had no heroine two weeks before the shooting. We spotted Zarine Khan and felt that she was perfect for the part,” explains Khan.

Period films are not a new concept to cinegoers so what is it about the film that will set it apart from the usual grandeur and blood shedding that goes with the rest of them?

“Trust me,” says the charismatic actor, “The most important difference is that this film is in a simple language that everyone will understand. There is no fancy ancient language and unnecessary gestures. This is a comedy, romantic and emotional film set in that time. It is a film about the relationship between a father and a son and about fighting for one’s land. It also has a love story in it because if there was no woman then whatever could have been the reason for so much enmity?” he smiles.

  • salman proved that he the brave hearted man:
    Salman’s a braveheart

Salman Khan can be quite a daredevil, gushes Rapchik Rajni as she strolls into my boudoir. She claims that the actor not only performed a khatarnaak stunt himself, but also did a retake, never mind the risk to his life.

For a robbery sequence in Veer, Sallu was required to move on top of a running train. Although he was given the option of letting the shot be done by his body double, Sallu chose to do it himself, never mind that he could slip and land under the train that was moving at great speed.

Aur pata hai kya? After the shot was canned, Sallu felt that he could do better and asked for a retake.

And while the trained reversed back to its original position, Sallu lay on top, appearing to enjoy the breeze.

    Really now!
