The first indication that Veer may not go the Wanted way, was when the collections first dipped on Saturday and later dropped quite significantly on Monday. Republic day (Tuesday) business helped the film get close to the first week numbers of Wanted, but the huge crash on Friday (Week 2) and further drops on Saturday and Sunday has meant that the film is highly unlikely to attain HIT status.
The fact that the distributors share is high from single screens has ensured the “moderate success” tag for the film, but business overall has been well below expectations.
Here is a comparison between Wanted and Veer
Day | Wanted | Veer |
Friday | 5.5 crores | 7 crores |
Saturday | 6.5 crores | 6 crores |
Sunday | 6.5 crores | 7.5 crores |
Weekend Total | 18.5 crores | 20.5 crores |
Monday | 7.25 crores (Holiday) | 3 crores |
Tuesday | 5.5 crores (Holiday in some parts) | 6.5 crores (Holiday) |
Wednesday | 2.5 crores | 2 crores |
Thursday | 2.25 crores | 1.50 crores |
Week 1 Total | 36 crores | 33.50 crores |
Friday | 2.25 crores | 1.5 crores |
Saturday | 2.50 crores | 1.75 crores |
Sunday | 3.75 crores | 2 crores |
Monday | 3 crores (Holiday) | 1 crore |
11 day Total | 47.5 crores | 39.75 crores |
The table above gives a pretty clear indication as to how both movies have trended, while Wanted opened slow and remained steady, Veer opened better but crashed quickly.
Few other points to be noted
- The multiplex business of Veer is lower than Wanted.
- The costs of Veer is much higher, hence the film needs much more for hit status.
- The lifetime nett of Veer is likely to fold up under 45 crores, with a distributors share of around 25 – 26 crores.
Most likely verdict : Average

Kajol is playing the TERRORIST in the movie MNIK. She uses srk’s decency and honesty to help her associates attack the twin towers (the 9/11 case) … looks like another Kurbaan, New York and Fanna in making … i dont think i’ll waste my important 2-3 hours and $ 15 on this terroist crap all over again.

PRITY ,I am a die heart fan of salman . Also I love you too .
I am a Salman Fan, but I have to say Veer was just unwatchable. Anyone with even a little bit of sense would have a hard time watching this disaster. I was really dissappointed in Salman’s writing. His acting was good. It seemed like Salman made this movie just to impress the masses (Single Screen audiences). It shows in this very very poorly written and directed film. If it wasn’t for Salman’s performance, I would consider this movie one of the worst I have ever seen.
I really think Salman needs to be more choosy with his projects. Some of the projects he has been choosing lately are not only weak but don’t appeal to the audience either. The exception is Wanted and to an extent London Dreams.
Salman should be more choosy and careful with his projects. If not, at this rate, I do not EVER see him winning a single award. And also Sallu fans don’t even give me that crap about Salman being jipped of awards because he never truly deserved any yet. I agree he gave some amazing performances in the past, but if you watch the performance that won; you will see that those performances were just better.
In fact Indicine:
Can you please start a discussion of awards Salman was nominated for, and why he didn’t win. I hate when biased Salman fans simply feel he was jipped because they only watch his films, and no one else’s.
For example – in 95 – Nana Patekar rightfully beat Salman for the best actor award
…. etc etc..
@Anonymous ..You are not a Salman fan.Infact u Sallu haters have found out a new way to start fights in the thread. If it is unwatchable 4 u go n sit in ur home n watch urself. In 95 SRk won the award.I think u just woke up n wrote something to seek attention.
@ Hina:
Get your facts straight. Nana Patekar won in 95. SRK won in 96 although that award should have gone to Ajay Devgan for Naajayaz!!
It seems like you are the one that just woke up. Get your facts straight before arguing. … such an amateur!
these so called sallu fans are his biggest enemies ..they know film has flopped and is the biggest after titanic ..but they are carrying on witheir charade in the false hope that it will impress few with their cooked up figures sadly the movie has receded below the nine mile mark under the earths core
@dash24789
no she doesnt, i just spoke to the guy who spread that on the internet, the dude is quite a nice guy, and he got the wrong idea, most people seem to think that the film is about terrorism, so there must be a terrorist in the movie, well….there ISN’T. Just spoke to KJo in london on khan day (today) at BBC studios, he has clarified this. Also got a chance to fire a question at the man himself, SRK. But will not discuss that here.
@Anonymous
Before you tell anybody else to get the facts straight, you should straighten your facts.
94 Nana won for Krantiveer, Salman should have won for Hum Apke Hain Kaun
95 SRK won for Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jainge, Amir should have won for Rangeela
96 Aamir Khan won for Raja Hindustani
Veer Drops Badly In Week Two
Friday 5th February 2010 09.00 IST
Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network
Veer has seen a big fall in collections in week two. The early estimates for week two are around 7.75 crore nett business which means around 75% drop. This will take its two week business to 38.75 crore nett including Telugu version. The Telugu version crashed huge in week two.
Even the best circuit for the film Rajasthan saw a 70% drop but luckily the distributor had covered his costs in first week alone. The film is keeping most of its single screens in week three as there is no major release this week which should enable reasonable business from single screens in week three. The two week distributor share is 23.50 crore approx and the film should finish at around 25 crore which is similar to Kambakkht Ishq and De Dana Dan last yea
As the Shiv Sena continues its attacks on Shah Rukh Khan, the Hindi film industry, which prides itself on being a “fraternity”, has largely shied away from publicly standing up for him — supportive tweets from some stars notwithstanding.
The Indian Express put two questions to a host of Bollywood personalities: ‘What do you make of the Sena vs SRK controversy?’, and ‘Why is nobody speaking for SRK?’
A few got back, some promised to but didn’t, the rest remained incommunicado.
The person who came out loudest and clearest in support of Shah Rukh was Salman Khan, a man who has recently had very public differenceswith SRK.
Said Salman, “I think what Shah Rukh said was that the Pakistani players should have been included in the IPL. If I’m not mistaken even our Home Minister P Chidambaram said the same thing. Sports and politics are two different things. In cricket, the only thing you hit is a ball. A sporting field is all about sportsmanship, sports is such a wonderful leveler that both winners and losers shake hands in the beginning as well as at the end of the match
Asked why he was backing his “friend-turned-foe”, Salman said, “That’s because Shah Rukh hasn’t said anything wrong. What should he apologize for? My Name Is Khan should be released for sure. It has to. As an industry we pay huge entertainment tax to the government and we entertain the people also. We don’t think like politicians. I anyway don’t understand this whole thing of taking a morcha and going to somebody’s house.”
@anmol thanx 4 the info.Thats our salman khan with his golden heart…learn people hw to bcome a grt human being..megha u r such a looser, always tryin to degrade our veer.
@anonymous sumthng is wrong with u brother..evry single comment of urs start with..”Im a Salman Fan”..then goin against hm at evry single aspect..u r bashing salman 4 da story and his acting n veer! Even critics r more then ok with the story nd acting.. Nd u bettr say salman is bcuming more nd more careful with his movies nd acting(except mamk)..
Veer is not average its below average. BOI said that lifetime gross of this film will be around 42 crore but i thought that will be maximum 41 crore.
