In this day and age, with prices of movie ticket soaring, piracy and various options for entertainment (like television), it’s tough to bring audiences to theatres.

- Akshay Kumar came close to giving the biggest hit of the year as many as 4 times. Mohra in 1994, Welcome in 2007 were the 2nd biggest hits while Singh is King and Rowdy Rathore came 3rd in 2008 and 2012 respectively.
- 2006 belonged to Hrithik Roshan as Dhoom 2 and Krrish were the 1st and 2nd biggest hits of the year respectively.

The discussion here is extremely biased and childish. These are facts
– SRK has had the more consistent career
– Salman Khan has had the bigger peaks
– SRK is more popular overseas
– Salman Khan has had far more success as a host of a Tv Show
– Aamir Khan has made the better films, and is the better actor
– Mithun Chakraborty won three national film awards, yet he was relegated to act in b grade films
in the 90s, and tacky disco oriented films in the 80s, because of his dark skin tone and looks.
That my friends pretty much speaks volume about how the film industry in India works, no one
cares about talent or quality of films, its all about having the right style, looks, star persona and background.
Lets be honest here, the number of quality Bollywood films relased in the last five years can be counted on one hand. And these so called hits and blockbusters are largely subpar films, which just happen to cater to a certain type of audience, and that type of audience happens to be the majority of the film viewing audience in India.
Fortunately there is parallel cinema, where actual quality movies are made.
