The trailer of Vidya Balan’s Begum Jaan went viral on the internet, garnering nearly 3 crore views on YouTube. It managed to get such high number of views inspite of the fact that the trailer was released on ‘Vishesh Films’ channel, which has less than 65,000 subscribers – compared to a big ’18 million subscriber’ channel like ‘T-Series’ which released ‘Raabta’ Trailer recently.
The box office reality though is disastrous. The conversion of audience watching the trailer to those venturing out to purchase a movie ticket is extremely poor. Out of all those many people who watched the trailer, less than 0.2 crore people have purchased a ticket to watch the film in theatre.
Begum Jaan is the 4th most watched trailer of the year, but the lifetime business will be less than half of another female-centric film Naam Shabana – which received just 5 million views on Youtube.
