The theatrical trailers of two keenly-awaited Christmas releases, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani and Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale, have been released.
Both films have been made on a budget of more than Rs 100 crore and recovery for one of the two films might prove to be difficult.
Dilwale was always going to be the bigger film, after all it had a massive star cast featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. Varun himself is a bigger star than Ranveer Singh and SRK is in a different league altogether.
The added advantage for Dilwale is Rohit Shetty, one of the top directors in the industry, whose track record at the box office can only be rivalled by the likes of Rajkumar Hirani and Rakesh Roshan.
But the battle for box office supremacy has probably evened out after the makers of Bajirao Mastani have released a theatrical trailer that has impressed the audience, critics and the trade. Come 18th December, Dilwale will still have the upper hand, but Bajirao Mastani is a magnum opus and a film that the audience would want to experience on the big screen.

If I say I will see with pirated version than you should bother but why because of TV, after all dilwale satelite rights already sold with min. 50cr rupees. Aren’t that worthing for Dilwale. Dilwale movie is my best movie i love you shahrukh sir
Trailer of Dilwale had nostalgia feel of SRK-Kajol pair, nothing other noteworthy and typical Rohit Shetty actions didn’t add much into it. Cinematography was too fancy and unrealistic. Some scenes were copied from movies like ‘MI: II’ and ‘Furious 7’.
Bajirao Mastani’s trailer was just epic, no criticism apart from Deepika not quite looking like a warrior. Her body language could have been different. Ranveer and Priyanka nailed the character. Cinematography was epic and it really made you feel for the characters as if it was real (even though it needed VFX compared to Dilwale, which didn’t need it). Music was gripping and costumes were great.
One more thing BM’s trailer lived up to the hype as a ‘magnum opus’, while a some of fans felt Dilwale’s trailer couldn’t live up to the hype. All of us know who’s the clear winner.
Bajirao Mastani is clearly SLB’s biggest film up to date, and its trailer lived up to the hype.
