Bajirao Mastani has shown phenomenal growth in business on Sunday, what with collections of the film set to come in the 18 crore range. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed film picked up by around 20% on Saturday and then again by 20-25% on Sunday, giving the film a very good weekend of around 47 crore in India.
The historical is carrying excellent word-of-mouth and looking at the weekend trends, there are chances that the film could collect 10 crore plus on Monday. Usually, when there is 20% or more growth on Day 2 and Day 3, it’s also a sign that the film has been liked by the audience and will hold during weekdays.
The other release, Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale wasn’t so lucky. As far as protests and cancellation of shows were concerned, it was a peaceful day. But there were a few stray incidents, like in Mangalore (Karnataka) where some shows of the film were cancelled on Sunday and advance booking has been put on hold for the weekdays due to protests.
The average growth for Dilwale at most centres that we tracked was around the 15% mark, some were a little lower, others were higher. The impact of shows getting cancelled or resuming after protests is currently not very clear. As per estimates, the film should collect around 23 crore on Sunday, taking the weekend total to around the 64 crore mark.
For the industry, it has been a big day at the box office. The combined collections of both Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale is set to be around the 42 crore mark.
Monday and the remaining weekdays will be important for both films, as the better performing film will get more shows at multiplexes in Week 2. There is the much-hyped Hollywood film ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ which releases in theatres on Christmas day, it will occupy a few screens too. The fact that big ticket Hollywood films are performing well in India (especially at Metro cities), has encouraged exhibitors to allocate plenty of shows in recent times.
The battle for screens and shows will continue in Week 2, so steady / good collections during the weekdays will be crucial for both Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale.

I am an ethnic Arab, married to a Muslim Pakistani lady here in the UK who is a keen fan of Indian Movies. I can understand Hindi well though not very good at speaking.
Today my wife took me to watch an Indian movie featuring new actors, about life of some ancient Hindu king and his wife (who was Muslim too).
All I would say I feel honored to have watched this movie. You Indians, take a bow, what a movie! simply mind-boggling. I have never seen any Middle Eastern or Turkish movie with so much class, intensity and drama. Just speechless. The actor who played the King was just amazing, he must be really good. Do you guys all your movies like this? Like seriously if you do then must make these films in English too. Very good.
@Rocko, then it is better Raees postponed for Independent day release for Eid Spot was made lucarative period by Salman with Wanted in 2009. No body else cared about that spot before 2009.
Diwali spot is ideally meant for SRK as he has been releasing his films in that period for a long time.

@james for your information BM dates were released long before Dilwale. But SRK because he thinks that he is some big maguffy came along and decided that nobody could better him. This is the result of his jealousy and arrogance. Don’t feel sad just learn the lesson and move on.
Finally am going to watch Star Wars this film will affect both BM and Dilwale big time coz the reviews are outstanding and it has already grossed over $500M+ dollars already and broken every possible record and i see it breaking another record in India

there was protest on Friday, all the shows were cancelled, almost 25 shows in 2 multiplex and 5-6 single screens
on Saturday only bajirao was playing and going houseful and the shows for dilwale were still cancelled.
I went pvr to watch bajirao., it was 2 pm
at the ticket counter surprisingly ” chori chupe ” they started screening 2.10 pm show of dilwale.
within 15 minutes without any announcement almost 35% screen were full
I watched dilwale and yes I was Very very disappointed. , but this may also because very less audience were there in theater.
so the impact of protest was huge
1. you were not allowed to ask for dilwale in ticket counter
2. you can not feel safe in single screens
3. no notification on book my show
this is very bad, it’s not a fair CLASH
