The much-hyped box office clash between Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay has proved to be a major disappointment, as the bigger film (in terms of costs, scale and setting) has simply not performed upto expectations at multiplexes on Friday morning.
The top 10-15 cities are the major contributors to film business, these are the cities where the average ticket price is significantly higher than the rest of the country. And if these centres don’t perform for a big-budget film like ‘Shivaay’, the film will struggle to get anywhere close to recovering costs.
Ajay’s lack of popularity amongst the urban youth, especially the fairer sex, is one of the biggest reasons why the opening was so poor. The costs far exceeded the box office pull of the star and he did not have any support from a leading lady or a well-known director.
Cities like Bangalore and Kolkata were disastrous for ‘Shivaay’ with the occupancy in the morning ranging from 10-15%. At some places it was even lower. Others cities like Mumbai, Pune, NCR region were better, but way below ADHM.
In the core Hindi belt, ‘Shivaay’ is ahead but business in these centres were affected by the ‘Pre-Diwali’ period. It’s also nowhere close to the level at which ‘Krrish 3’ opened on the same day (4 days before Diwali holiday) 3 years ago.
In complete contrast, ADHM has opened very well at multiplexes. Select shows as early as 8AM on Friday morning were running close to capacity. A strong star cast, along with a popular director has helped the film get a good initial.
ADHM should win the first day at the box office, the collections are certain to be higher unless there is a major turnaround from ‘Shivaay’. The percentage of difference between the two films will depend on evening shows.
I’m wondering what were the makers of Shiavaay smoking from that ‘chillum’ while making this ‘fillum’.

In the beginning i thought Shivaay must be supported for as they are offering something new and worked hard . In the meantime Mr Devgn N his fans (read fools) started acting very overconfidently as if Mr Koyla attained mega stardom. They started abusing Akki and other stars even though many of us supported Shivay.
But now enough is enough. Ajay fans and Ajay congrats for making a huge fool out of yourselves. Ab jo 4-5 Ajy fans ye film dekhne wale the.. bas vo hi deknge. We will not.

Dilwale being a mediocre film sorrounded by negativity(intolerance issue) still opened way better..shahrukh neva lost.

This was expected, the youth weren’t really interested in Shivaay. But when I expressed my opinion last time, these arrogant Ajay fans called me an @jolly akkiholic spreading negativity about the film.

Well everyone is saying Adhm opened we’ll compared to shivaay but the bookmyshow the liking for Adhm is 70 percent and Shivaay 87 percent if this trend continue then shivaay will be winner as Adhm liking is very less compared to shivaay

I think all unknown face in Shivaay is the biggest reason for underperformance at box-office no big director, no big leading lady, unknown supporting cast and more than This Ajay released the trailer 3 month before movie release time This movie totally depends on Ajay shoulder That called too much overconfidence. For a movie to work big time you need strong assemble cast and support from every department unless you are Salman and Amir

irrespective of whichever film has taken the lead.. that feeling of an event film is missing during a festive season.. both have failed on that account.. this brings to light just a festive release is not enough.. it needs certain megastars to create that aura of an event film.. at present only two gentlemen come to my mind that is salman n aamir.. others are unfortunately way behind

The fact is Salman’s current run at Box office and peak of Stardom is way ahead of SRK’s ruling & golden era. No matter how many times these losers refer past their idol can’t reach Salman in present reality. That is a bitter pill to swallow for them.
@dxt namm : Absolutely !!! I agree with you. I applaud AJ for making Shivaay but still that kind of Grand Festival release is missing. Only Khans & Hrithik can match that aura. No one else.
It is funny to read when people talk about SRK’s special appearance and call it as powerful when Srk’s double role shown the real power in April 2016.
