The much-hyped box office clash between Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay has proved to be a major disappointment, as the bigger film (in terms of costs, scale and setting) has simply not performed upto expectations at multiplexes on Friday morning.
The top 10-15 cities are the major contributors to film business, these are the cities where the average ticket price is significantly higher than the rest of the country. And if these centres don’t perform for a big-budget film like ‘Shivaay’, the film will struggle to get anywhere close to recovering costs.
Ajay’s lack of popularity amongst the urban youth, especially the fairer sex, is one of the biggest reasons why the opening was so poor. The costs far exceeded the box office pull of the star and he did not have any support from a leading lady or a well-known director.
Cities like Bangalore and Kolkata were disastrous for ‘Shivaay’ with the occupancy in the morning ranging from 10-15%. At some places it was even lower. Others cities like Mumbai, Pune, NCR region were better, but way below ADHM.
In the core Hindi belt, ‘Shivaay’ is ahead but business in these centres were affected by the ‘Pre-Diwali’ period. It’s also nowhere close to the level at which ‘Krrish 3’ opened on the same day (4 days before Diwali holiday) 3 years ago.
In complete contrast, ADHM has opened very well at multiplexes. Select shows as early as 8AM on Friday morning were running close to capacity. A strong star cast, along with a popular director has helped the film get a good initial.
ADHM should win the first day at the box office, the collections are certain to be higher unless there is a major turnaround from ‘Shivaay’. The percentage of difference between the two films will depend on evening shows.

Ajay fans are the most delusional people.
I mean they were expecting Shivaay to thrash adhm while it is all set to lose the opening battle.
Even Dilwale was defeated by BM but it collected 60% more than bm.
Even in rustom case MD was surrounded by negativity with disappointing trailer and lukewarm response to its songs.
So the biggest upset is the realisation of the fact for a certain fan base that there are basically 6 actors who could be called superstars with Ranbir most probably making a permanent place while a senior actor has never been a top star despite struggling for more than 2 decades.
Ajay’s poor and cheap tactics have started to talk. All his 3rd class efforts on degrading ADHM showed how much inconfident he was, on his own project!
Whereas Karan and all the star cast of ADHM remained silent about all the comtroversy and innocently promoted their film. Here comes the result! Way to go team ADHM! All the best!

Aj is a big actor, but his fans dream so high that they compare him with khans and they say he is much bogger than Akki. Honestly do u think with such a lovaly trailer Akki would hve been defeated like on openning day,especially at Delhi Ncr and punjab regions . Plz be humble just he has won the lotery with a franchize as popular as Sr doesb’t mean he is a a superstar.

Irony is, Those who serve internet are either limited to internet or fake likers by PR machinery. Its very clear who had bigger PR machinery. Where are those who are still calling and claiming to boycott ADHM. Both films had similar buzz but shivaav got lot of fake praises or real praise but limited to internet likeness, but no one is attending even the nearest theatre. Whereas as ADHM received lot of criticism and got bashed for Fawad khan, Ranbir kapoor, Karan Johar or at some extent for KRK. From the day Ajay posted his peace and relaxmesnt after ADHM teaser, that attitude was too cheap to be considered. At the end its karma and the neutral public neither bakhts nor Pakistanis but real Indians who know everything. Yeh public hai yeh sab jaanti hai.. Tata bye bye fake stardom and arrogance

Earlier watched rustom – junk movie, Sultan – really salman is one of the biggest superstar in india only because of that collected 300Cr otherwise I was asking to myself why I spent 3 hrs for that third claas movie.

Don’t give credit to Music of ADHM. Even baar baar dekho had chartbuster music. Its the charisma and heroism which connects to do audience even if some is at his lowest. Salman achieved it because he attracts. Ranbir is Hero for a reason. Ajay should learn to be a gentleman like Akshay kumar or SRK

Really man…anushka n Ranbir were negligent in first half with natural acting.. And then second half SRK’s cameo n Aish’s poetry contributed well to its over all success!! Especially I was literally shouting n cheering when king SRK say the line” Ek tarfa pyaar ki taaqat….”
