Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is known to be a perfectionist and it would be an understatement to say that he does very few films. In the same amount of time that he spends on finalising the script and cast of his films, Akshay Kumar would complete four films and two family vacations.
But on a more serious note, the combined collections of Aamir’s last three commercial films is equivalent to Akshay’s last 10 (from Special 26 to Airlift). And we are only talking about the domestic collections here, otherwise the overseas collections of PK alone is more than Akshay’s last 10 releases.
It has always been quality over quantity for Aamir and it has worked for him big time in the second and more successful half of his career. But with age no longer on his side, it remains to be seen if Aamir will do more films in the next few years.
The least gap between two Aamir films is when Rang De Basanti and Fanaa released 121 days or 4 months apart. The biggest difference was between Dil Chahta Hai and Mangal Pandey, when Aamir was going through a personal low. It could also be the biggest gap for an actor when he beginning to reach his peak, because it came right after the success of Lagaan and Dil Chahta Hai – two films that came at a time when the multiplex era was about to begin and the urban middle-class was coming out in big numbers.
On an average, Aamir does one film every 19 months.

As a neutral(though very far away) you must educate people that grossing high due to multiple movies and pleasing exhibitors(pop corn sellers/theatre owner’s.. staffs) is no way a medium in judging hardwork of the actor…how happy his producers and distributors are. No way dudes!! So what do you mean it can be seen in other ways ? You are more interested in seeing how much a movie earned its profit not some outsiders out there being happy. Why did Srk pay 50% loss to distributors and not exhibitors???

Define CIRCUIT?
CIRCUIT are areas where distributors book at least 5-8 years for their films they acquire from producers… Kerala/Tamil nadu… Mumbai.. Rajasthan.. West Bengal. 5-8 years…so if in a CIRCUIT an actor delivers 700 crs in 20 months while another 650crs in 4 years it still falls and us recorded as unanimous! It falls within 5-7 years.
Do u know what it takes for an actors movie to give a distributor share of 160 crs?
Ask Shah Rukh Aamir Salman fans what that signifies and see how irrelevant they will find theatre owners popcorn seller profit or being happy.
I am sorry but in today’s world SRK AAMIR SALMAN will always stand tall when it comes to NET GROSS DOMESTIC, OVERSEAS FOOTFALLS and DISTRIBUTOR SHARE(which decides d verdict of movies) not individual Theatre owners or pop corn selling staffs!!

Makes no difference to their STAR VALUE and STAR POWER. I think Hrithik Ranbir Ajay are the other ones to give highest above 77 crs distributor shares…. while for footfalls of their top 5 movies I think it’s Aamir Salman Srk Hrithik Sunny Deol(border and gadar were massive ) Ajay.

@ Lisa : I agree. Amir is himself a reserved person. His fans are also not the type who would run after his car or assemble outside his house on his birthday just to see a glimpse of him; the sort of passionate/crazy fans which SRK and Salman have. But he does have a very large fan base which is very loyal to him and comes in hordes to cinema when his movie releases and waits for his movies as desperately a SRK or Salman fan waits.
Amir has always been known to take time to select the scripts and the research he does on his movies. So I think if he reduces the time gap there will be some impact on the quality but still that lower quality will be much higher than many other actors’ work. One movie in two years is very low and I also want him to do 1 movie each year.
What I find so amazing that he has done fewer movies yet he is the founder of 100 cr, 200 cr, 250 cr and 300 cr.
I am a die-hard SRK fan but have huge respect for Amir and eagerly await for his movies as well.

But overall , one film in 19 month is too much I believe. And now at this stage, this gap will only increase I believe, as he won’t be attempting his hands on 2-3 movies at this age.

@ aisha : In this article I think Indicine un-intentionally trolled Akshay while comparing him with Amir. So Indicine later made amends with that exhibitor comment. Otherwise obviously Exhibitors share is nothing that we have heard of.
I like Akshay too but Amir is much ahead of him and there should be no shame in admitting it. I am quoting here below Akshays own words which he said in an interview in 2012 where he talked about a monkey on his back (i.e. the box office pressure) since the release of Ghajini:
“Forget the monkey, I feel like I have been carrying King Kong on my back ever since the release of that first film (Ghajini) which smashed the 100 crore mark a few years back. Aamir has set some high standards.”
And he said those words in Aug 2012 i.e. after the release of Rowdy Rathore, his highest grosser ever.
Frankly this pressure will also felt by SRK and Salman as it took them a number of years to cross the 200 cr mark which Amir did way back in 2009.
Akki’s films are a rage on TV,constant source of entertainment for people..On TV people love to watch entertaining films like Welcome,phir Hera pheri etc rather than classics like Lagaan,RDB.
Many aamir fans keep complaining that Aamir should do more films..at least that’s not the case with us ;)
Agree Aamir has more twitter followers than Akki but followers don’t necessarily means fan.Even I follow Aamir,Srk,Salman on twitter doesn’t mean I am their fan.
Aamir loses almost every poll against Srk,Salman,Akki,hrithik on Twitter.There must be some rationale behind it.And it’s not that they all are intellectuals and don’t like to participate in polls ,I have seen many aamir fans requesting their fellows to vote in excess but still losing by a huge margin.
@Yuvraj you didn’t got my point. If and buts are just an excuse. If Aamir had 4 films in a year or 1 film in a 2 year doesn’t make him less than any actor. Giving 4 all time highest grossrer and those garners higher footfalls is not a joke. Akshay no doubt doing wonderful films now and getting appreciation but still he come up with mediocre film after one appreciated film.
Both Aamir and Akshay has different choices and style of work and both are great to their space but doing a less films doesn’t reduce the effort and his hold at box office.
I agree that Indicine should avoid to compare Aamir style of working with any other actor as it leads to unnecessary fan wars.
