Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees has moved from Eid this year to the Republic Day weekend next year, a date that is occupied by two other big films – Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil and Ajay Devgn’s Baadshaho.
While pressure from fans (‘Raees on Eid’ has been trending almost every other day) has prevented Ritesh Sidhwani and Shah Rukh Khan to officially announce or even talk about the postponement of Raees on social media, director Rahul Dholakia has had to mince words to confirm that the film is no longer releasing during Eid.
“Film ke liye jo sahi woh sahi. Thank you for your continued support for Raees. Love you all” Dholakia tweeted earlier today.
Official statement from Shah Rukh Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar “t was not an easy decision to move the film. We understand that this film is highly anticipated. However, a movie of such magnitude requires the appropriate showcasing and therefore, we have decided to shift our release date to 26th January 2017.”

Now that the release date is confirmed, one of Shah Rukh Khan’s most promising films will be ‘too old’ when it releases in theatres. The film will hit screens nearly 19-20 months after the teaser, which was unveiled back in July last year.
Moreover, while the clash with Sultan has been averted, it sets up yet another clash with two other films. Hrithik might move, but Ajay Devgn is known to be stubborn with his release dates.
If yet another clash is what you want, why move from Eid? If your film is not ready, it would probably be a better decision to occupy the Diwali or Christmas weekend. Those two dates can accommodate two big films, but that won’t be the case with Republic Day weekend next year.
Why did they let go of the ‘Bakrid’ weekend, which falls in the second week of September? It was a 4-day weekend and a perfect time to release a film like ‘Raees’. It was their own film ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ (Excel and Dharma) which is scheduled to release during that weekend and ‘Raees’ being the bigger film could have arrived on September 9.
I am a big SRK fan.. and I’ve been very depressed since yesterday. This is a bigger shock for me than Fan doing poorly.
I am ok with postponing the film from Eid.. but why 2017?? Why when there are two films already on that date?
You can’t postpone your film again because it’ll be yet another big embarrassment.. if Ajay and Hrithik decide not to move.. what will you do?
Why are they not releasing Raees for Christmas? It will kill Aamir’s Dangal.. which could be similar to Sultan.. if the content of Raees is better, it might beat Dangal. Even otherwise I feel Raees has a better chance against Dangal.

Well written article and Raees had announced their release date before Sultan so they should not shift unless their own product is crap and now why should Kaabil and Baadshaho shift because of Raees and watching a bootlegger, criminal on a republic day makes no sense so its a horrible decision by Raees producers

If it still has to be a clash then why move from Eid at all? And if moved and then why not Diwali this year? Why not on Eid Bakri this year? All this not making sense as of now.

I think the problem is content…they need time to reshoot or edit many portions of the film…they are not confident of their product…it might be well acted movie but can go fan way…these things are making it clear that raees will also be an underperfomer at box-office.
It’s clear the product is not convincing to the makers itself… They r scared to clash with Megastars SULTAN and ready to clash with Ajay n Hrithik…

Even i Dont Understand.. They wont Clash with Sultan that was known to Everyone.. If Ress had Released on 1st July,They wud have Lost all screens on 6th/7th July whenever Sultan wud have Released and if they wanted to release it on 6th/7th They wudnt have got more that 1200 Screens Courtsey of Sucidical Combo of Salman+yrf.. So Clash was never Gonna Happen.. But moving it to Jan 2017 doesn’t make any sense.. The only Reason i can see is that Makers are not Haooy with Product and want to improve it before Releasing..
Ajay Devgn must be the happiest actor now as he is finally getting a chance to settle score with his old enemy Surukhan.

I will prefer Ajay-Milan’s crime thriller Baadshao, not interested in Naakabil or Huggies.
Really sad and will hurt the people’s enthusiasm in a big way. Since one year we all had been wanting “Raees on Eid”!!
Its good to avoid a big clash like we saw in the Dilwale & Bajirao Mastani but the question is why the makers repeatedly aiming for the Eid?
In the industry compromise comes into play and one party had to bend a little for another. But WHY COMPROMISE FOR A LITTLE?? Republic Day isn’t the weekend we’d expected for Raees!!
