After Shahid Kapoor (read article), Aamir Khan has hit out at actors in the industry who give out inflated box office numbers.
During a promotional campaign of his upcoming film PK, Aamir said “Its childish. I think that for some reason various people in the film industry feel that by inflating their figures they would convince people.”
“Nowadays you get to buy editorial in number of newspapers which is extremely unfortunate. So what happens is that I can buy editorial and say ,’Mera itna dhanda hua ya utna hua’ (Say my film has earned this much). But its meaningless because when you go home you know how much business the film has done. Even the industry knows exactly how much each film has done. So the market knows, you can’t fool the market. You can try and fool people but how many times will you fool people also. Ultimately you are just fooling yourself.”
Aamir went on to add that he is one of those actors who is strictly against the idea of giving out inflated figures, something that he claims he hasn’t done for any of his films so far “I am one of the people who strictly doesn’t give out figures which are inflated” the actor added.
Aamir holds the record for the highest grosser in the industry. His last release Dhoom 3 went on to collect Rs 283 crore in India and more than Rs 500 crore (gross) overseas. He was also the ‘founder’ of the 100 crore and 200 crore clubs. The trade expects his upcoming film ‘PK’ to be the first to cross Rs 300 crore in India.

Can’t remember any actor of his generation how has so much versatility and courage in him. Admit it, his proportion of good movies to bad ones is unbeatable!
Capturing news channels at prime time is not the way Aamir khan promotes his films. It’s a shame that most actors and news channels have lost their integrity. Movies where most of the energy is focused towards promotions get mammoth opening.
Even SRK knows Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa was light years ahead of HNY, same with Aamir. Sarfarosh was zillion times better than “Doom 3”
Content should speak for film. Manipulating Numbers is the last thing a creative person can do!

guys please note that its not about BOI figures only……the reference here is towards trade figures….
for all big films trade figure is usually lesser than producer fig…..the problem is when the variations are more than 10% or thereabouts as little bit variation can be accounted for as collections from smaller centers is difficult to ascertain exactly……for eg HNY and Kick have a variation of 13% and 11.5% respectively which I guess is okay as exact collections are almost impossible to ascertain…..
what aamir and some others like ajay shahid etc are saying is probably referring to the huge differences in trade and producer figures…..so pls guys dont make this a fan fight…..its infact a serious issue
Hrithik & Aamir Khan are great actors and are very honest personalities. Krish 3 and Dhoom 3 were highest grossers and there are no doubts about them.
simple logic i request all to follow is:
1). A movie that releases in 3500 + screens with a good 80-90% occupancy can easily collect 30+ crores any day…
2) A movie that releases in 3500 + screens with a good 50% occupancy can easily collect 18+ crores any day…
And when you start following this, you can estimate yourself how much a movie can collect. You just need to follow the occupancy rate which is difficult to track by any source…that is why we see difference in opinions of various trade sources. Now you can’t expect BOI to send its people to all theaters and screens throughout the country to get exact occupancy reports nor any distributors, exhibitors and theater owners report to them….Now producers of film can do this more appropriately because they get to know this figure exactly from distributors, exhibitors and theater owners as they all have to get in touch with Producers to update them about the status all day…So any day producer figures are more accurate than BOI, but not always correct…
Can any one tell me one reason why i should follow or trust BOI….I will really Salute them for the answer if it is appropriate…
