Will Bahubali give SRK and Aamir the confidence to realise their dream?

Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have publicly expressed their ‘life long dream’ of adapting arguably the greatest and most layered story ever told, the Mahabharatha.

Shah Rukh has spoken about making ‘Mahabharat’ on multiple occasions, the most recent public quote was just a couple of weeks ago when the superstar said “It’s my dream to make the Mahabharat for the screen. It’s been for years now. But I don’t think I have the budget to do that. I would love to do it, but I don’t think I could afford to”

In the pre-Baahubali 2 era, Shah Rukh had probably underestimated the potential of the Indian market.

“Unless I collaborate… But not with Indian producers. There have to be international producers on board for this one because Indian producers and Indian films have a limited market. This one has to go out into the international markets. So you have to collaborate with someone who’s international”

The ‘Raees’ star had also said the scale has to be no less than a ‘Baahubali’ or bigger.

“You don’t take up a subject like the Mahabharat and make it any less. It should be on the scale of a Baahubali or an even larger one” Shah Rukh had said.

Aamir Khan too has said he wants to make the epic into a film and his dream would be to play the role of Karna. The actor had recently said he wants to divide the film and story into several parts.

Meanwhile, there have also been reports that a UAE businessman has signed Malayalam superstar Mohanlal for a 1000-crore bi-lingual film based on the story of Mahabharat. The makers are said to be keen on casting Hrithik Roshan as Lord Krishna. An excited Mohanlal also made the announcement through blogposts that he would be playing the role of ‘Bhima’ – the second Pandava son.

The scope of the story of the Mahabharat is immense, but it also requires a director of the calibre of a S.S. Rajamouli or maybe even a Sanjay Leela Bhansali to translate what’s on paper into a magnum opus. A less gusty director like a Ashutosh Gowariker, could so easily end up ruining the entire project.

Will the humongous success of ‘Bahubali 2: The Conclusion’ give the likes of Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan the confidence to make a film that will not only bring the All-India audience to theatres, but even help Indian Cinema go truly global for the very first time?

With age no longer on their side, the time to realise their dream and make the Mahabharat into a big screen experience is now. Baahubali 2 has set an example, it’s time for the Indian Film Industry to up the ante and give the audience what they are looking for – bigger and better films!

  • Mahabharata announced by BR shetty is based on RANDAMOOZHAM a novel by njanapeeda won author MT Vasudevan Nair… It tells the Mahabharata story in Bheema’s perspective… novel was released in 1983.. story is somewhat like immortals of meluha where pandavas and other charecters doesnt have any magical powers and are like normal humans

  • Dear Indicine, Please add the sentence #200cr net opening at domestic boxoffice is not a big deal” instead of “200cr net is a big task”. Thanks

  • Younger actors like John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan, Vidyut Jamwal, Varun Dhawan should get the nod, SRK and Aamir can have extended cameos which will have wow moments.

  • They should calibarate on the film together. With two of india’s top 3 stars they could easily make the movie a success. They could both also not take any upront payments but a % of profits to ensure that the necessary funds are alloted to the VFX rather then a inflated budget due to their fees.

I personally would prefer Amir to play the role of Krishna and SRK to play the role of Karna. I feel like SRK would capture the anger better and Amir would be really well suited to a mentor role similar to stars on the earth.

  • Bahubali 2 collections are unimaginable.with the pace it is going it will be first 400 cr in Hindi & min 1000 cr worldwide in all languages.
Hats of to Rajamouli & cøngrats to the teams.
Now Aamir got something to chase after so many years.
It also proved a commercial movie with universal content can do huge a business not only in India but also overseas.
Next biggies which can do this kind of business are
Tubelight Padmavati tzh robot2 thugs & Dhoom 4 but they should be high on content.

  • Khans are aged now…They can’t do protagonist role convincingly…It should be likes of Hrithik who can essay such kind of epic roles…There are heresays that hrithik is being cast into role of Krishna in Mahabharata a 1000 CR budget movie from kollywood… Indicine at least you should be impartial in your analysis and respect the talented actors…You guys have been criticized a lot for being khan lovers…Ur every second article glorifies a khan actor…Pls get well soon and produce a balance article…Do you think SRK has a persona left now to be a matcho …He can be good in fatherly roles but not in a lead character…Remember 15 years ago he was pathetic in Asoka…Now he is unfit for Bahubali kinda character…

  • @django Its been funny that your so called popular star is struggling from past 9 years to cross Aamir films at domestic and ww level.
Right from 100cr to 350cr all crossed by Aamir. It is an epic movie required to defeat Aamir so Bahubali came which will open 400cr club or may be cross 450cr too. Its been damn funny when 2rs people judge the stardom of a man whose 5 from last 6 films are all time grosser.
Regarding risk Lagaan was one of the most expensive movie made in India when released.

  • Story of Mahabharata has been told & retold several times. Almost all Indians know the story. So besides visuals, there won’t be much of novelty in Mahabharata. The fact is that Bahubali has exposed the limitations of these superstars. It has now showcased that no superstardom is required if the presentation is top notch. This whole talk of making Mahabharata is nothing but a panic reaction to changed reality.

  • No way…
Bahubali is what it is because of the south…
And no hindi film can open like bahubali in south.
Moreover mahabharat is know to everybody, and it wont be able to create that curiosity

  • mahabharata should not have any bollywood actors. not the 3 khans especially. and ofcourse the director and his team should not be from bollywood. IN SHORT, bollywood should not ruin a legendary story like MAHABHARATA by making it. tthough they can help others by producing it so that the cgi and vfx are world class and use their name and fame worldwide to promote it. i know most of bollywood audience(including me) will bash me hard. but thats the truth

  • Only khans fans are crying that Bahubhali is a South Indian movie
But I am proud of that Bahubhali is an Indian movie

  • First thing bollywood actors need to learn is discipline. SRK was supposed to be in Robot but Shankar replaced him with Rajni cause Srk was always late on set.

  • According to me the casts who suits and who can justify the mahabharata characters are:
    1. Bhishma: Rajnikanth
    2. Krishna: Shahrukh Khan
    3. Arjun: Aamir Khan
    4. Karna: Salman Khan
    5. Bheem: Ajay Devgan
    6. Duryadhan: Akshay Kumar
    7. Shakuni: Kamal Hassan

    Can u Guys Imagine

  • look at these agorant sallu fans disliking each and every srk aamir comments, becoz their insecure star cant think doing something new except wearing sweters in summers lol and torturing us with same ghisa pita innocent ullu character

  • if the three khans of bollywood will make a film together then the rocord of bahubali 2 will be a history

    the power of #Bollywood#khans

  • Dont know much about Mahabarat but I will keenly love to watch it. I did watch some series and I enjoyed it.

    @Sky 18.38 hrs…
    brilliant!

    @Demi…
You are a very big fool.

  • Ha ha ha. Tiny stars fans are too much jealous of megastar aamir khan. Their tiny stardomless stars dont even have aukaat to cross 200 cr and they bark about megastar Aamir Khan ? What a joke. Aamir’s movies earn minimum 300 cr and anything below that is considered underperformance for his megastardom. While for their tiny stars even 150 cr+ is considered overperformance. Lol.

  • Top opening weekends overseas
    1. Baahubali 2- $22.15 million
    2. Kabali- $11.2 million
    3. Dhoom 3- $10.32 milliom
    4. Sultan- $9.45 million
    5. Dilwale- $8.32 million

  • “In the pre-Baahubali 2 era, Shah Rukh had probably underestimated the potential of the Indian market.”

    @indicine
It still won’t collect more than Bahubali in India… coz
south indian audience won’t come in huge no.s for bollywood films, as they came for Bahubali 2,
and south is very important to collect 1000 crs in India…. for ex: Dangal collected 385 crs across the country but has collected just 21 crs in Andhra/Nizam in its entire run… but bahubali collected more than double of dangal in just one lonely day (50+ crs).
if Dangal had collected 50 crs in its entire run it would have crossed 450 crs and if that no. would have been for single day 500 crs were less for Dangal….

So unless there isn’t any Tollywood film with south Director or Actor, it can’t even touch 450 crs in India… Bahubali performing well coz of all south, east, west & north but bollywood has market in East, West & South Only… North & west with east has market of 350 crs but if we add south it can go up to 500crs… coz Andhra/Nizam can add 150 crs (Bahubali 2 gonna earn 300+crs, so I added just half of it)

  • @Irfan srkian, Srk idol, @Django, @Azad mahav, it’s such a pity that you jobless jerks were unable to accomplish anything in your own life and being so unsuccessful you want to aim your frustrations against successful people. Your heart is eating out like a cancer because you could never hold a candle to Aamir success or his family. Maybe you are yearning for recognition and the only way you can get it, is to come unto indicine site and spread your negative and hateful comments fueled by your inner jealousy because you can’t have what Aamir Khan has.??

  • Aamir should make hakla even more tingu then he is by overshadowing with his unmatchable screen presence. Srk is dwarf not only in height but also in stardom, fame, talent and everything.

  • In comparison to Aamir’s talent, megastardom and success srk is a tiny dwarf. That’s why he is making his own biopic called dwarf. LOL.

  • Congratulations to Indian Cinema this great success, And that they want to progress on them to continue this way . This film shows the world the reality of Indian cinema . Finally Indian cinema has given competition to international cinema . Such a film you can show the world and tell him this is our industry . forget lagaan 3 idots PK BB & Dangal . Those are poor films for poor people because ticket price.
    .
If you ever wonder why Indian movies don’t get much international awards or any attention then bahubali series is probably a good example.
