The trade had huge expectations from Veer and as of today, the Salman Khan starrer directed by Anil Sharma has managed to live upto it.
As we all know by now, business at multiplexes all over India was on the lower side (30-40%) right from Day 1 (Friday). Monday witnessed a further crash and the film has been rejected at the plexes. Collections down south are disastrous, business in two key centers in Karnataka – Bangalore and Mangalore – is way below expectations.
But what’s heartening is the fact that, the target audience of Veer, have taken to the film big time. Business at B and C centers in India is strong and the trending is pretty good.
Collections were strong on Friday, followed by a minor dip on Saturday, picked up again with Sunday recording the best collections for the weekend. Weekdays were always going to be crucial and the film has sustained well – Monday witnessed an expected dip in collections, but business on Republic day (Tuesday) was record breaking, similar to the boost that Wanted received on its first Monday.
Below are the day to day collections of Veer
- Friday – 7 crores
- Saturday – 6 crores
- Sunday – 7.5 to 8 crores
- Monday – 3 crores
- Tuesday – 6.5 crores
5 day total – approx 31 crores.
Week 1 is expected to be somewhere between 34 – 36 crores.
What remains to be seen in the next few days
- Can Veer sustain and match its Monday collections during the remaining two weekdays i.e today and tomorrow?
- Will the release of Rann and Ishqiya affect its collections? Unlikely to, since both releases this week are targeted mainly at the multiplex audience.

All eyes are on My Name Is Khan due for release next week but February will also see the release of two medium budget release in Toh Baat Pakki and Karthik Calling Karthik both of which carry good reports.
A medium budgeted film like Ishqiya released last week managed to pretty well at the box office and it will not be a surprise if Toh Baat Pakki and Karthik Calling Karthik manage to mark a mark at the box office.
My Name Is Khan will dominate February as it has created huge curiosity amongst the public but the promos and music of Toh Baat Pakki and Karthik Calling Karthik have also been liked by the public. Toh Baat Pakki is due for 19th February release and Karthik Calling Karthik is set to hit theatres on 26th February.

hello friends, today I finally managed to see the movie ‘Veer’ with some friends and it was not that bad as reviewed by many critics.. though the movie is slow, but is entertaining with a different treatment.
I personally feel the film could have been made more better, if director were able to use the available starcast and resources more intelligently.
nevertheless, it is a good attempt by Veer team as this is a very big movie and managing these kind of big projects is a really difficult task.
my good wishes to Salman and mithunda for their future projects.

Fathiya, the Indian film industry is a very big one and is having very large no of audiences, and is basically not dependent of international audiences for the revenues..
Indian movies pace for abroad screening increased in the last 10 -12 years only and before that indian audiences were the main revenue sources for filmmakers.
The stars like Shahruk and Ritik are marketing themselves for global market and Shahruk is also called NRI star as most of his movies made in last 10 years are targeted to non resident indian audiences.. the story and locations doesnt match with the Indian theme but the movies are successful commercially as they are targeted for specific audiences (NRI’s) who can spend more money ($) than the domestic people..
and I do not agree that the bollywood will sink if Shahruk flops.. you people are thinking this because he has positioned himself in global market by his marketing plans, the fact is that all the NRI storied movies are not successful in the interior India and people even dont know who is Shahruk or Ritik.. the most popular stars in interior India are Dharmendra, amitabh, mithun and jeetendra whose DVD’s are still popular among rural masses.. you will be surprised to know that still 20 year old movie of dharmendra and mithun plays in old cinemahalls of interior India..
The real thing is that newer stars are not having a pan india appeal, they are just targeting the global markets where maximum profits can be earned in short periods.
In a recent interview Sharukh said that “MNIK is entertaining but dont make expectations”.. its really unclear what he wants to say.. maybe, this statement implies he is not very confident about the movie himself !!
moreover there is not any excitement or hype about the movie in the local circuits and recent protests against Shahrukh may also effect the movie status in mumbai..
