Top Bollywood Actors Worldwide – September 2014

After two articles that covered the Top 15 Actors in India and Top 8 Actors in the Overseas markets, we have the final analysis of the Top Bollywood Actors Worldwide.

Before we get down to the number game, we have the list of Top Actors in India and Top Bollywood Actors Overseas (click on the links to read the full article).

  • 15. Shahid Kapoor – 200 cr

Overseas Ranking as of September 2014 (in brackets, overseas collections converted to Indian rupees i.e Rs 60.5 per dollar)

  • 1. Shahrukh Khan – $77.18 million (? 467 cr)
  • 2. Aamir Khan – $76.55 million (? 463 cr)

  • 8. Akshay Kumar - $14.25 million (? 86 cr)

For the worldwide ranking, we decided to keep things simple. The net collections from India would be added to the gross overseas collections. Only the Top 8 established stars both in India and overseas would be considered. The rest would retain their India ranking in the worldwide list too.

Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan

Rank 1 Aamir Khan: Salman topped the India ranking list, while Shahrukh took the top spot overseas. But when the total collections from India and overseas are combined, Aamir emerges as the top star. On an average, each Aamir film collects about ? 244 crore worldwide!

  • Dhoom 3 – 469 cr
  • Talaash – 144 cr
  • 3 Idiots – 360 cr
  • Ghajini – 162 cr
  • Taare Zameen Par – 82 cr
  • Total – ? 1,217 cr (average ? 243.4 cr per film)
Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan at Baba Siddiqui's Iftaar party

Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan

Rank 2 Shahrukh Khan: Easily the most consistent star both in India and overseas, Shahrukh would probably top the list if more than 5 or career films are taken into account. He could also be the only star in the history of Indian Cinema whose films have consistently made an impact worldwide in the last 15 years or so. But with films like Dhoom 3 and 3 Idiots, Aamir has overtaken him by a margin of 18 crore per film. Will the gap widen after the release of PK? Or will Happy New Year go on to be an all time grosser worldwide?

  • Chennai Express - 341 cr
  • Jab Tak Hai Jaan – 202 cr
  • Don 2 – 180 cr
  • Ra. One – 191 cr
  • My Name Is Khan – 212 cr
  • Total - ? 1,126 cr (average ? 225.2 cr per film)

Rank 3 Salman Khan: Leads by a huge margin in India, but not quite in the league of Aamir and Shahrukh overseas, Salman ranks at No 3 worldwide. The gap between him and his arch-rival Shahrukh Khan is just ? 2.2 cr per film! Infact, there is very little in it between the Khans, who are by far the most popular Bollywood actors in the world. It would take something very special from Ranbir or Hrithik to match up to the three legends of Indian Cinema who turn 50 next year!

  • Kick - 302 cr
  • Jai Ho – 149 cr
  • Dabangg 2 – 211 cr
  • Ek Tha Tiger – 262 cr
  • Bodyguard – 191 cr
  • Total - ? 1,115 cr (average ? 223 cr per film)

Rank 4 Hrithik Roshan: Hrithik should significantly increase the average collections of his last 5 films as his upcoming October release Bang Bang would replace one of his career’s biggest disasters Kites. He retains his fourth spot.

  • Krrish 3 - 297 cr
  • Agneepath – 157 cr
  • Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara – 134 cr
  • Guzaarish - 49 cr
  • Kites - 76 cr
  • Total - ? 713 cr (average ? 142.6 cr per film)

Rank 5 Ranbir Kapoor: With two huge blockbusters, one critically acclaimed success and two failures, Ranbir, regarded by many as one of the best actors in the country, takes the 5th spot. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is his biggest worldwide blockbuster so far.

  • Besharam - 77 cr
  • Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani – 252 cr
  • Barfi! – 145 cr
  • Rockstar – 88 cr
  • Anjaana Anjaani – 59 cr
  • Total - ? 621 cr (average ? 124.2 cr per film)

Rank 6 Ajay Devgn: The huge success of Singham Returns has helped Ajay tremendously. He has gone past Akshay and also taken his average above 100 crore per film.

  • Singham Returns – 167 cr (expected)
  • Satyagraha – 77 cr
  • Himmatwala - 53 cr
  • Son of Sardaar - 119 cr
  • Bol Bachchan – 126 cr
  • Total - ? 542 cr (average ? 108.4 cr per film)

Rank 7 Akshay Kumar: The failure of OUATIMD hurt him big time. It was expected to be his first 200 crore grosser, instead it ended up as his least worldwide grosser. The combined business of OUATIMD in India and overseas is less than Boss! His June release Holiday: A Soldier is never off duty collected 138 cr worldwide.

  • Entertainment – 87 cr
  • Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty – 138 cr
  • Boss – 76 cr
  • Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbaai Dobaara – 74 cr
  • Special 26 – 86 cr
  • Total - ? 461 cr (average ? 92.2 cr per film)

Rank 8 Saif Ali Khan: His romantic comedies have done well, but his most recent release ‘Humshakals’ was a failure worldwide. Race 2 is his biggest grosser to date.

  • Humshakals - 79 cr
  • Bullet Raja- 42 cr
  • Race 2 - 141 cr
  • Cocktail - 102 cr
  • Agent Vinod - 54 cr
  • Total - ? 418 cr (average ? 83.6 cr per film)

Note: Worldwide Total = India net + overseas gross. Entertainment taxes has been deducted from India business.

  • Hrithik roshan 2000
    srk is older
    salman is older
Just wait for bang bang and mohenjodaro
    bang bang 300cr
    mohenjodaro 350cr
and amir khan is best too.
    P.k 700cr worldwide

  • Salman Khan has come also to SRK & Aamir after the blockbuster success of KICK very recently..
After release of HNY & PK both SRK and Aamir will be miles ahead for him.

  • I am just surprise how can hr fan are barking for no1, hritic is nothing infront of ranbir forget khans.
    Rk’s line up
    bomby velvet
    jagga jasus
    tamasha
    ayan mukherji next
    kjo’s next
ranbir definately comes top3 with in a few year

  • @indicine i just want to ask why are u not includind IMRAN KHAN in d list..its true that he is going through a bad phase but he is still better than many new faces included in the list…u can ignore him but can’t underestimate such a talent..please do reply on this indicine..i think you are being partial.pls do reply.

  • No doubt all three khans r ahead of others nd belong to their own league. But Srk is the most consistent.

  • @indicine, an analysis on upcoming release of top 5 actors cd be interesting, like predicting what’s in store for them, a grahic analysis of who stands to gain, or who looks stronger, wd be good article.

  • hrithik is the only non khan who can deliver back to back 200cr+ movie in india and in quality wise hr movie is the best.(aamir dhoom 3 was crap, dhoom 2 was 100 time better than that shit)

  • @king roshan dhoom 2 was far better than dhoom 3????? What did you like in dhoom 2? What was so special in it? Don’t be a blind fan. Dhoom 2 was also shit.

  • Very great article… Glad to see that top worldwide actor is someone who actually deserves it….
Aamir khan was not so good during the start of his career but now he is choosing scripts n roles very wisely… So no doubt he is the best among the khans…
Hrithik Roshan could easily get 1st or 2nd spot if he starts choosing scripts wisely like Amir… But he is more of an actor than a star n he chooses to experiment a lot… N experiments sometimes go wrong… He has this habit of taking risks… Sometimes they fail (kites), sometimes they set the BO on fire ( K3) Sometimes they win hearts (Guzaarish)…
But when its abt making the Character come alive onscreen he is far ahead of anyone mentioned here…
Hope he will b in top 3 after Bang Bang…

  • Kites was the most hyped movie of 2010. But it got flopped at BO. People and media started underrating hrithik. Many said it was a crap.
Kites was the only movie of hrithik that i hadn’t seen. But finally watched it today! I seriously doubt about the taste of those people. How come it’s a bad movie? Just look at the cinematography, the background score, the performance by hrithik! It’s not a perfect movie,it has also limitation.it could have been better in the second half. But it’s not that bad as some bark over it.it’s much better than many brainless masala movies of this decade!
Wondering How does hrithik manage to have such stylish looks and physique!

  • @Bullock or Cowlock,
Aamir won Best Director for his home production ‘TZP’
Salman won ‘Best Children Film National award’ for Chillar Party
Sarkar won ‘Babaji Ka Thullus’ for Billu and Ratoon Point One.

  • @babaji its ridiculous thought of you to compare Aamir when he is 40 with the hr achievement of this age, As Aamir was debuted as the chocolate hero at the time when action films are on peak time,QSQT was the second biggest hit that time, after than love stories were got huge appreciation with movies like Chandani and MPk in 1989, after that Aamir’s Dil made it strong furthur.Than rest is history, while HR debut in the time when mostly love stories along with Masala films getting appreciation. other point is HR came in picture at the time when multiplex era was bound to begin but khan trio along with Ajay,Akshay debuted in single screen era.
Other thing hr started soon to realise that multiple movies per year is not for him so he started to did one movie a year like Aamir, but in Aamir case he did multiple films in 8 years in his career.First 13-14 years of Aamir wasn’t great like Srk, Salman but still in those 14 years he has Given a historical Atbb Raja Hindustani, Highest grosser Dil of the year, classics like Jjws, qsqt, rangeela,Sarfarosh,Lagaan, dch, aaa. At this time Aamir was 36 year old, same age when Hr given Kites and Gujaarish.
HR got benefit of two franchise same year in 2006 but that year Aamir cross the 50cr barrier first time twice with a normal banner, original film RDB than YRf fanaa.
So under age of 40 Aamir was the trend setter for love story QSQT,Sports Film JJWS,Much risky noncommercial looking project Lagaan and upcoming age urban film DCH.Despite that he hasn’t garnered huge following still he did that.
HR followed the same path of Aamir
    Debut love story KNPH
Classics like Lakshya which directed by farhan who did dch with Aamir
    ZNMD-a tribute to dch
JA- directed by Ashutosh who got recognise after Aamir

and last 1 film at the time, the formula which Aamir used to overcome his failures
So HR just following Aamir’s trend till date with only exception is Sci-fi series Kmg and krishh.
Dhoom 2 was franchise (the only thing which Aamir followed of Hr but that initially followed by hr from john )and K3g he was second lead.
This is Aamir under 40 and HR.
I didn’t said wrong about hr but you guys unnecessary thinking HR has did more than Khans trio.
Aamir had 7 classics under his name, One ATBB. under 40 age.
HR had 4 classics Lakshya, kmg,JA and znmd.Guzaarish is not classic film at all.HR ahead in BB with 6 till date but not a single atbb( 1 as you guys following officials).but Aamir under 40 age ended in 2001 while hr in 2014 and from 2005-2014 Aamir performance you guys better know.

  • @Indicine, you have covered SRK’s live show in Malaysia earlier this year. But you are not giving a single coverage of Salman Khan’s Opening of the Music of his film ‘Dr. Cabbie’ in Canada? People are going gaga over Salman Khan there.

    Why this biasedness?????

  • In salman case kick included which is recently realised ,so I guess after the the realise of hny and pk …..the gap between other two competent will be more from sk

  • Unnecessary comparison between Hrithik and Khans. Hrithik has a long way to go. He’s 40 and has both critical and commercial success to his credit. I’m more on seeing him in Mohenjodaro than Bang Bang.

Keep going HR he’s the only superstar of his generation (actors who debuted in and around 2000)

  • @indicine y r u deleting my rankings?u let me publish my own rankings for past 2 months but y r u suddenly not letting me do that?this is violation of right to freedom of speech!
