We recently held a poll, where we asked our readers to vote for the Best Action Heroes in Bollywood. Here are the results.
- 5. John Abraham (108 votes) – Even though he has one of the best physiques in the industry, John has very rarely featured in action films. He was last seen in Force, which was an average grosser at the box-office.
- 4. Hrithik Roshan (362 votes) – Agneepath was one of the best performances of Hrithik’s career. He is perfectly suited for the action-masala trend of today, but known for being a perfectionist, Roshan has been extremely selective over the last decade or so. His other action hits are Krrish and Dhoom 2.
- 3. Salman Khan (823 votes) – Missing out on the second spot by just 18 votes is Salman Khan, who is without doubt the most bankable superstar in India today. His two upcoming releases – Ek Tha Tiger and Dabangg – are both action films that are expected to shatter box-office records.
- 2. Shahrukh Khan (841 votes) – Given his popularity and fan-following all over the world, SRK is likely to top almost every poll. His last two films – Ra One and Don 2 – were both action roles. He excelled in Don, but his performance in Ra One was far from convincing.
- 1. Akshay Kumar (1305 votes) – He is not called the ‘Khiladi’ for nothing. With more than 36% votes, Akshay Kumar has been voted as the Bollywood’s Best action star.
Others actors who were included, but didn’t make it to the Top 5 – Ajay Devgan (91 votes) and Aamir Khan (60 votes).

IDIOTS! Akshay Kumar is the best action hero in Bollywood yet. I think the Indicine writers may be a fan of Akshay (I don’t blame them) but it doesn’t matter either way. All those saying Akki is not a true action hero are idiots. All those saying Akki copied Salman’s style in Rowdy Rathore are idiots as well. Salman Khan basically uses body doubles and wires (you can feel the tension of wires in his movies). SRK should not be considered an action star either. Now here are the things which makes Akshay Kumar the BEST:
He has been doing action movies since the beginning. He is not someone cashing on the current trends. He has been doing action since the beginning of his career and for the first 10 years of his career, his portfolio was 98% action. It was only till he got a son, Aarav, that he decided to leave action. But although Akshay can leave action, Action can’t leave Akshay. He went on to do some actioners like Aan, Awara Paagal Deewana, Talaash, Khakee, Blue, Tashan, Singh Is Kinng and even did stunts in non- action movies like Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Kambakkht Ishq and even Desi Boyz. Also, he did a television reality show where he did one dangerous stunt every freaking episode: Khatron Ke Khiladi. He never left action for me and Rowdy Rathore is only a conscious return. Unlike Salman, SRK, etc. who use body- doubles, Akshay takes the opposite route. I won’t lie though, Akshay has used body doubles twice in his career which is still commendable. One was for Housefull, a scene where he had to fall on some soft thingy. That’s not even a stunt but the people there didn’t allow Akki to do that scene. The other is in Housefull2 in the scene where Akki and John fell down the rocky area. I don’t know why both John and Akki used doubles there but I am pretty sure it was not Akki’s idea. Nevertheless, he has done about 60 action movie in his career. Higher than any other contenders here and using body doubles only twice in 60 action movies with 1,000 stunts is awesome. For as far as I can remember, even Jackie Chan used doubles a few times. That’s doesn’t stop him from being an action hero. Everyone knew how great an action hero Akki was so even if this poll was conducted before RowdyRathore, Akki would still top the list. The biggest factors of Akki’s action are his martial arts and stunts. Akshay is a black belt and knows Karate, TaeKwondo, Tai Chi, little bit of Kung Fu and also Muay Thai. While Rowdy Rathore had more strength combats, his martial arts moves can be seen in Khiladi786 (roundhouse kick, jump roundhouse kick, crescent kick, slap kick, etc.) and in his older action movies. He is also known for having a knack for stunts. He performed parkour live and also did a lift to lift jump stunt live for RowdyRathore. He has performed the scariest stunts in Sabse Bada Khiladi, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi, Angaaray, Mohra, Khiladi 420, etc. I can easily name my top 10 favorite Akshay Kumar stunts. I doubt others can name their heroes’ top 5 stunts. That’s already a lot so I will stop now. I think I have already proved my point.
