Top 10 Opening Day Collections of 2015

With Badlapur, Varun Dhawan has emerged as one of the most bankable young stars in the industry. The Rs 7.2 crore opening of Badlapur is probably bigger than the opening of his last film ’Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’, when factors like genre and adult rating are taken into consideration. Also, Badlapur released on just 1650 screens. The average collections per screen is the highest of 2015 so far.

Ranbir Kapoor’s Roy is the only film to cross 10 crore on Day 1 this year, followed by Akshay Kumar’s Baby which took a start at the box office earlier this year. Tevar, Shamitabh and Hawaizaada looked like failures on Day 1 itself.

  • Roy (2400 screens) – 10.41 cr
  • Baby (2650 screens) – 9.3 cr
  • Badlapur (1650 screens) – 7.25 cr
  • Tevar (2900 screens) – 7.05 cr
  • Shamitabh (1600 screens) – 3.5 cr
  • Alone (1700 screens) – 3.5 cr
  • MSG – The Messenger (1600 screens) – 3 cr
  • Khamoshiyaan (1300 screens) – 1.92 cr
  • Hawaizaada (650 screens) – 0.61 cr

  • No long boring review of Badlapur from me… As far as Im concerned it was a small film but one which I was immensely looking forward to considering the uniqueness of the trailer n the standards of excellence set by the antagonist n promise of the protagonist. Its an amazing film n I dont see too many small films in theatres as I usually always go for the big ticket movies but this one was worth my money n time. For me its below Baby but as an entertainment package it has more to offer to a wider range of audience IMO. Im sure it will be a HIT n its not boring at all- nawaz will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout as he has that ‘weird unexpected’ feel about him so you never quite know what he will do next. Varun was competing well with him but the veterans experience was too much in the end so hes the star of the show for me. Great watch… Dont miss the beginning..

3.5 stars- star each for Varun n Nawaz n star for the music which was exquisitely blended into the movie. Half star for everything else- I know thats low and even though thats important in making a film but really audiences only care about the stars performances n here the stars deliver big time.

  • @babaji .. Sid Malhotra was expressionless in Ek Villain ? atleast you should be thankful that Sidharth is a part of ‘Brothers’, else even Brothers would have gone the ’60 cr.’ way just like all Akki movies.
Sidharth Malhotra is the most bankable amongst the young lot, Ek Villain almost challanged the opening of Jai Ho.
now don’t tell me Ritesh Deshmukh was responsible for Ek Villain’s success, its as good as saying that Ritesh Deshmukh was responsible for the success of Heyy Baby & the Housefull movies. No ? Right ?

  • Varun Dhawan comes a close 2nd to Sid in the younger lot.
I expect Brothers to be ‘Huge’.
atleast 130 cr. + for sure.
Ek Villain was a 100 cr. movie too, this will make it 2 100 cr. grossers in Sid’s kitty.
anyways, Badlapur has proved to be a game changer for Varun, the WOM is extremely positive.

  • Going to watch badlapur today afternoon show and I hope won’t disappoint with the film. All over the internet I found appreciation of the film and Varun-Nawaz so hope for a superb experience in theatre.
@babaji I remember your review of ek villain and you were all praises for Sid performance for ek villain and now here you are saying he was Expressionless than how come it was his great performance. For me ek villain is a one time watch film that also because of act of Ritesh and his wife.I am disappointed from both Did and Shridhha performance and yes SID wasn’t good in the film, will see how Varun managed to act in Badlapur but since the SOTY trailer released I knew that Varun will be a star to watch out for and I hope he won’t dusappoint me.

  • Just shut up guys Badlapur is gaining some good critics reviews only because of it’s excellent performances from Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Huma Qureshi , good music and that’s all . Varun Dhawan is just a painful to watch in the film as the happily young married man turned widower . In some scenes I never felt that Varun delivered a good performance but I felt that Varun was just forced by the director of the film to act emotionally . Varun just have the image of a chocolate boy but not an angry young man . Sid in Ek Villain was not expressionless he was acting excellent in the film . Sid is just better than Varun in everything : looks , physique , dance , height , script selection , voice , etc ……….

  • @zeeshan shera khan

You should be thankful for Deepika starring opposite old king in his last two crapgiri movies or else king would still be chasing Readys 123cr record let alone going pass 3 idiots…

PS everyone knows Crappy New Yr fell way short of 200cr but manipulation is rife within the industry so credit goes to the wrong number giving babuji uff accountant….!

  • @navin just like your Bhai should be thankful to all South directors, Asin, Kareena, Jacqueline and the ever sexy Sobakshi and the hottest Zarine Khan for doing an Item Number in your Bhai’s evergreen 121 cr. Blockbuster Ready.
if not for these people, Bhai’s movies would have bombed !! No ?
well not to forget your Bhai was struggling for a 200 cr. movie untill some 6 months back when his ‘Sick Action Killer (Thriller)’ eventually made it to the 200 cr. club.
and Bhai is yet to have a 400 cr. worldwide grosser.
    Just Saying !!
