The Shaukeens has taken a decent start at the box office on Friday. Given the star cast of the film (Akshay Kumar only makes a special appearance), The Shaukeens has released on nearly 1900 – 2000 screens, which is higher than most medium-budget films released this year. It should cross the 5 crore mark if it evening / night shows hold up.
The all-India average occupancy in the morning was around 25%, which has picked up to around 30-35% in the noon. Exhibitors are confident that the film will pick up towards the end of the day, as the initial reports from theatres is good.
The other film Rang Rasiya has opened to empty houses on limited number of screens and shows. The film is a non-starter at the box office and will struggle through the weekend.
The big competition for ‘The Shaukeens’ will be from Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Happy New Year’ which enters its third weekend today. At multiplexes, ‘The Shaukeens’ has significantly higher number of shows as compared to ‘Happy New Year’, so it will be interesting to compare the weekend business of the two films. Will the family audience prefer ‘Happy New Year’ over ‘The Shaukeen’s or will it be the other way round? A lot will depend on the word-of-mouth that the Abhishek Sharma film carries.

@nvs. How to forget that lallu doesn’t act and tries to act. So all people from the theatre were transferred to mental asylum after they complained of dizzines and anhedonia. And even some were put on ventilators due with cmv. Oh sorry u are bhai tard. U wouldn’t know what Cmv is. Its controlled mandatory ventilation. Where in the patient is highly sedated.
