Legendary Filmmaker Yash Chopra, who filmed most of his romantic songs and films in Switzerland, has been honoured with a special statue by the government of the country.
The bronze statue of the late filmmaker, which weighs about 250 kilos, was inaugurated on Wednesday (yesterday) by his wife Pamela and daughter-in-law Rani Mukerjee.

Yash Chopra, the legendary filmmaker lives on through his eponymous work in people’s hearts. His lens lovingly captured the breath taking locales of Switzerland for decades. Now the Swiss government is honouring him with a special statue, as a mark of gratitude and salutations. The statue was inaugurated on Wednesday.
A sculpture made of pure bronze, and weighing about 350 kilos, will present Yash Chopra in an iconic pose of him directing a film. Chopra, who opened a legacy of South Asian tourists flocking to Switzerland, loved to spend time there. Natural beauty and warm hospitality mark the association that his banner Yash Raj Films shares with this country. This statue will be installed at the heart of Interlaken, inside the KURSAAL area, near the Congress Centre. A prime, popular spot with tourists, the statue will remind many of the cinematic splendor that Yash Chopra had created for this picturesque nation.
While many ministers and senior bureaucrats from the Swiss government attended this inauguration, Pamela Chopra and Rani Mukerji were also present for the occasion. The event was organised by Interlaken Tourism and Jungfrau Railways.
This is not the first time the filmmaker has been honoured in this way. The government of Interlaken awarded him the honorary title of “Ambassador of Interlaken” in 2011, and Jungfrau Railways named a train after him – an honour shared only with the railway’s founder, Adolf Guyer. In addition, the five-star Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa in Interlaken named a suite after Yash Chopra.

Definitely one of the best directors of all times. Only in his last movie (JTHJ) one can say he went out of form otherwise he has been quite consistent (barring few exceptions) throughout his career something which not many other top directors can claim.
My favorite movies of his:
Ittefaq (with Rajesh Khanna). Have heard praises about Daag too but havent watched.
Deewar, Kabhi Kabhi, Trishul, Silsila (with Big B)
Chandni and Lamhe (Anil, Sridevi)
Darr and Veer Zaara (with SRK). Dil to Pagal Hai was just ok.
For me he delivered his best with Big B and SRK but more with Big B. And what is amazing is that with Big B it was intense and action based movies and with SRK it was romantic movies and Yash Chopra seemed to master it all including a superb suspense thriller/songless movie like Ittefaq which he did with Rajesh Khanna.
So a director of highest caliber.

Yash Chopra always worked with top actors/actresses of their respective times like Rajesh Khanna, Big B, Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and SRK (all at top at their own times). So yes he needed those actors to deliver his best.
Similarly all those actors also needed an excellent director like Yash Chopra to deliver their best.
Yash Chopra wouldnt have been the top director he became had he not worked with those top actors. And similarly those actors wouldnt have achieved the success they achieved had they not worked with Yash Chopra.
So it is always a combo which works and it is a stupid discussion really as to who made whom.
And I mentioned Sridevi only but in actresses he also always casted the best of their times like Juhi, Madhuri, etc.
And in actresses also he chose top ones and not just Sridevi but also like Juhi, Madhuri, Preity etc.
