Two of the most awaited films of 2016 – Sultan and Dangal – are both based on the story of wrestlers. While Dangal is a real-life story of Mahavir Singh Phogat (amateur wrestler and senior Olympics coach), the story of Sultan is completely fictional.
But the newly released teaser of Sultan seems to be heavily inspired (would be an understatement) from a video of Geeta Phogat’s story – which was released more than a year ago in January 2015.
Geeta Phogat is Mahivir Singh Phogat’s first daughter and her character will be played by Fatima Sana Shaikh in Dangal.
Watch the two videos below and check out the similarities for yourself. Everything from the voice over, pull-ups of Anushka Sharma, her taking on a male wrestler, then fighting a female wrestler and the message of women empowerment – every bit of it has been included in the second teaser of Sultan.

This is absurd to see YRF and Ali Abbas Zafar copying the entire video frame by frame . Honestly the video featuring Geeta Phogat is much much better than the 2nd teaser of Sultan . If Aamir Khan, Nitesh Tiwari and Siddharth Roy Kapur will see both the videos they will be shocked and upset . They can file a case against YRF for Copyright Infringement . I was always knew Aamir and Salman both doing movies based on wrestling in the same year will create a lot of trouble as people will see almost 2 similar characters and 2 similar movies . In this scenario Dangal and Aamir will face a tough time as people will watch Sultan first so they might think Dangal is inspired by Sultan . If this matter becomes worse then it will definitely affect the friendship between AK and SK . Because Aamir is the Co- Producer of Dangal and has worked really hard to gain weight and then lose weight . He has also learnt Haryanvi and wrestling for Dangal . For Salman he is working for the 2nd time with YRF and the expectations are high as Salman has a terrific record in this decade . For the first time in this decade Salman has transformed himself to play a character . Both the movies are based on wrestling, both the movies will depict Haryana, both the movies will showcase the Olympic matches and both the movies will highlight on Women Empowerment so if all this happens than it will be trouble for Dangal . No to forget Aamir is coming back after the Intolerance Statement which will add fuel to the fire .

This is not on at all. The Sultan teaser 2 looks alot similar to this one. Such a huge company YRF is dont they have enuf creative people to come up with something unique?
Praised the Sultan teaser 2 just a while ago but now feeling let down.
Anyways in the war between Dangal and Sultan my vote for Dangal any day any time.
Sultan will be something I will watch as timepass (until and unless it turns out to be something like BB) but Dangal is something I am most eagerly waiting for.

Even if YRF totally copied the scenes from that video, that doesn’t mean the story will be exactly the same.

The makers of the teaser might not have any ideas how to create a teaser about a girl wrestler.
So they must have searched it on the internet and found this video, and made it ditto copy.
That doesn’t mean the story of Sultan will be the same as Dangal.
Filmmakers have taken inspiration from real life personalities all the time.
Eg.
The character of Tony Stark/Iron Man was inspired from John Hughes who was also a maverick billionaire.
Makers of Sultan must have taken inspiration from Geeta Phogat to create an different character of Indian wrestler girl.

Dangal is not a story about Geeta Phogat’s love life.
Whereas Sultan is a complete love story.

Mark my words there will be no similarity between Dangal & Sultan rather than their boxoffice fate which will be ATBB.

Indicine with all due respect are you trying to spread negativity here for SULTAN and DANGAL, there is no need of this article, I don’t know what else you are expecting from a wrestler movie you are saying that Anushka is doing pull-ups just like Geeta Phogat c’mon are you serious every wrestler do pull-ups, exercise, running to remain fit, and every female wrestler do wrestling against male wrestler and in India female wrestling is not so famous so there is no question of similarity and it’s not exact copy, Anushka Sharma is playing a character of a wrestler so director have to show all these stuff…
Now tomorrow you will say that Salman and Aamir are doing same type of exercise and wrestling moves in movie…height of insecurity yaar both the movies are based on Wrestling so there are few similarities like this but the story is totally different and there is no need for this comparison…
