Sultan Sunday (Day 5) Box Office Collections

Salman Khan’s Sultan was extraordinary yet again on its 5th day at the box office. The growth in business is decent (2 – 5 – 10%), which in itself is outstanding because the film was running at insanely high levels of occupancy throughout the weekend.

The fact that collections actually improved on Sunday is a big plus for the film and sets it up quite well for the test on Monday.

As per early estimates, Sultan has collected Rs 39 crore on Sunday at the box office. The film was record-breaking at multiplexes – with a majority of shows running to running to 100% occupancy from morning to night. There was a small dip late night, which tends to happen for most releases on Sunday.

More importantly, the first extended weekend of Sultan has delighted exhibitors all over the country. At several small centres, the film was sold out for the entire weekend with centres recording 100% occupancy for the entire weekend. These were centres that were running to very low occupancy over the weekend for most films this year.

The first extended weekend collections has crossed the 180 crore mark for the first time ever. The collections of films like Dhoom 3 and Bajrangi Bhaijaan was at this level for the entire first week.

Sultan was one of the fastest films to the 100 crore club, it was the fastest to 150 crore and it’ll now, most certainly, become the fastest to 200 crore too. Can it do so in 6 days i.e by tomorrow? That’s the big question. If it does manage to hold strongly from Monday to Thursday, Sultan will have very high chances of surpassing PK to become the highest grosser of all time. That’s the only feather missing in Salman Khan’s cap – ever since he began the decade of utter domination.

Sultan Box Office Collections

  • Wednesday – 36.54 crore
  • Thursday – 37.32 crore
  • Friday – 31.66 crore
  • Saturday – 37.10 crore
  • Sunday – 39 crore (approx, early estimate)
  • Total – 181 crore (approx, early estimate)

  • The best thing about Sultan is that for d first time in mainstream cinema v have a hero not fighting against the society or a villain bt instead against himself.

In sultan our hero has to suffer d consequences of his own deeds. Success made him so arrogant that he first insulted his roots by saying ‘mai local championship me kyu laru? Mai intl wrestler hu abhi. Inko apne levels k wrestler se ladne bolo..’

Then he insulted his medals ‘ maine medals nahi jeeta. Balki medals mujhe jeete…’ he has a scuffle with a journalist

Bt he crosses all limits when he skips his child’s birth for taking part in world championship. As Aarfa who delayed her Olympic dreams 4 her child says- ‘tumhe izzat kamane bola tha. Tum toh guroor kama k agaye..’

Throughout the 2nd half our hero works towards redemption. Ultimately in d climax he visualises the old evil sultan in d MMA ring with all his sins and manages to beat his inner demons to come victorious in d redemption saga.

Also it was so great to see Aarfa in d end return to d ring, though only 4 local competition whl Sultan is now just her assistant. They also hv a daughter and Sultan happily accepts her.

I blv these aspects of d script touched everyone’s heart & made it a monster hit

  • Finally managed to watch Sultan yesterday after struggling to get tickets on Friday.

Sultan has nothing new to offer and is as predictable as its box office performance but still some brilliant scenes in the 1st half and some emotional moments make it a decent one time watch.Had the editing been tight it could have perhaps been in the league of Cdi.But the pre climax scenes was just a drag. Also you start hating Anushka’s character for her stubbornness after a certain point rather than feeling empathy for the couple.I just wanted the film to end asap at one point.

Background score and Anushka’s performance were too good.Salman was surprisingly convincing in some emotional scenes especially the scene where he looks at the mirror and undergoes an emotional breakdown.
For me I am quite surprised to see such positive reviews even from so many strict critics when the movie isn’t a classic by any means like BB.If you aren’t a fan of Salman you won’t love the film in its entirety.Even though some sequences do standout. For me it doesn’t deserve anything more than 2.5
But the response the opening scene generated at the theatre is something I haven’t witnessed in for any other bollywood star.It reminded me of watching Rajini Sir’s movie.Surely Salman is on a different level altogether at this moment and will continue to rule until he commits any blunder.

  • Wow!! Just stupendous collections. Bhaijaan is leaving even his fans in awe let alone the haters.
By the way, I watched Sultan for the 3rd Time tonight.
    Will watch once more…

  • Bollywood ki aan baan shaan
    Bhaijaan Salman Khan
Only actor to create such buzz and craze among fans after the great BIG B.

  • Unbelievable people compare him with rajesh khana and amitabh bachan but he is way ajead of them now in term of stardom I dnt think India will have a superstar like him again in decades

  • With 100% Occupancies across India, Sultan earned 39 Crores on Sunday. So, that should be considered the highest BO potential for a film even in 2016.
But how did HNY earn 44.97 Crores with around 80% Occupancies in 2014?

On top that, the ticket prices and screen counts of HNY were less.

Now, every movie fan except SRK fans (even some SRK fans) may well doubt Red Chillies Highly Inflated HNY BO Figures.

  • Challa speaking the language of of some hater critics..lol.The people aren’t idiot to go watch an average movie in such large numbers.T he point is hater is always biased.

  • Being a SRK fan..I’m very happy that this movie is doing well – Bajrangi n Sultan are 2 of the best movies of Salman Khan’s career. Its just been annoying when he has won allocades for the other rubbish movies he has done.. However, hope he continues to do good movies like these!

SRK meanwhile seems to be off track as far as box office is concerned.. But he has been the most consistent superstar the country has ever seen so gotta give it to him.. Excited that he’s signing some good content oriented movies and not doing movies like HNY anymore just to get huge box office returns!

Hail SRK n SALLU! Hope both continue to rule for another decade!

  • Opening Day of Sultan vs HNY,

    Occupancy,
    Sultan >>> HNY

    Ticket Price,
    Sultan >>> HNY

    Screen Counts,
    Sultan >>> HNY

Then why the opening day collections of Sultan was less than that of HNY?

Why was it less even on the 4th Day of Sultan, where the film performed better than the opening day itself?

I know you may say HNY performed than Sultan in the centres or circuits where the ticket prices were more expensive? And Sultan performed better in the circuits where the ticket prices were cheaper.

In that case, there are two things:
    1) you gotta consider HNY Ticket prices were more expensive
    OR

    2) You name the centres or the circuits where it performed better than Sultan dif. Or give us the circuit-wise comparisons.

We believe in those figures then. These are some meaningful questions. Else, anyone can round up a figure and say ‘my film has earned this much on the opening day.’

  • Challa speaking the language of of some hater critics..lol.The people aren’t idiots to go watch an average movie in such large numbers.T he point is hater is always biased in opinion.

  • sultan going on high level my early eastimate 38 minimum and mey be touch or cross the 40 crore mark today

  • Sunday #Sultan was holding 90% occupancy in multiplexes but only 50% in single screens so single screens business will be finished in week1

  • HUGE !! All time Blockbuster.
    Salman on his peak.
My Prediction for Top 5 movies in 2016 by box office collections:-
    1.SULTAN – 315 crs
    2.DANGAL – 240 crs
    3.MOHENJODARO – 135 crs
    4.AIRLIFT -128 crs
    5.SHIVAAY -125 crs.

  • sultan 100% occupancy
    4300screens
    collection 39cr

    HNY 80%-90% occupancy
    3800 screens
    collection 45cr

    Fiction at it’s best

  • This is beyond what everyone expected. I thought 150 cr in 5 days would be awesome, but it’s gonna be around 30 cr higher at 180 cr. Just Incredible.

@indicine… what do u think ?, now ur excuse of 15 ticket sold in mumbai r equal to 150 sold in Bihar ain’t valid bcz in mumbai Sultan is performing better than HNY.
