Shivaay Day 1 (Friday) Box Office Collections

Shivaay has collected Rs 10.24 crore on its opening day at the box office. The collections are poor for a film that was made on a budget of more than 100 crore.

The Ajay Devgn starrer was ahead of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil at circuits like Rajasthan, Bihar and C.I where massy films targeted at the single-screen audience tend to dominate.  These are also the circuits that were affected by the pre-Diwali period, so there is hope that ‘Shivaay’ could double its business on Monday.

Multiplex business was a different story altogether. The occupancy for Shivaay was poor throughout the day. In fact, at almost all metro cities ADHM was running at more than twice the occupancy as Shivaay.

Where the film goes from here, will depend on how it sustains over the weekend and the kind of growth it manages on Monday. But getting anywhere close to recovery is going to be very difficult for the film. It needs to do nearly 13-15 times its first day business to recover costs and that’s the kind of trend only films like 3 Idiots. Even a film like ‘Krrish 3’ only did 9-10 times its first day business and that film not only had a much bigger star cast, but was also carrying good word-of-mouth and didn’t have any competition.
