From a commoner in Delhi to one of the biggest superstars in the country, Shahrukh Khan is one of the biggest success stories in the industry today. Born in New Delhi on 2nd November 1965 and brought up in the coastal city of Mangalore for the first five years of his life, Shahrukh made his debut in the Hindi Film Industry about 2 decade ago with Deewana (1992), a film that won him his first Filmfare Award for Best Debut Male.
Later in the same year, Shahrukh featured in Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, a film that remains close to his heart even today. The turning point in his career, however, came with two films in 1993 where he played characters with grey shades – Yash Chopra’s Darr and Abbas-Mustan’s Baazigar.
1995 though was a landmark year in his career. Two of the year’s biggest blockbusters, Rakesh Roshan’s Karan Arjun and Aditya Chopra’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge released and the latter went on to become one of the biggest blockbuster in the history of Indian cinema and firmly established Shahrukh as the biggest superstar in the country. DDLJ is still running at Maratha Mandir in Mumbai!
In the following few years, SRK gained iconic status with romantic films like Yash Chopra’s Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Subhash Ghai’s Pardes and Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which remains one of the biggest hits of his career.

The beginning of the current century was probably the toughest of Shahrukh’s career with the media pitting him against Hrithik Roshan who made a spectacular debut in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai. The two had a epic clash at the box office during Diwali in 2010 when Hrithik’s Mission Kashmir released on the same day as SRK’s Mohabbatein. While Mission Kashmir opened to a better response initially, it was Mohabbatein that eventually won the Diwali clash.

In the last decade or so, Shahrukh consolidated his status as one of the most bankable stars in the country with successful films like Devdas, Chalte Chalte, Kal Ho Na Ho, Main Hoon Na and Veer Zaara. The actor was unable to maintain his success streak when Swades and Paheli failed at the box office. Two rare failures were followed by 10 back-to-back successful films that started with Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and continues with his latest blockbusters Chennai Express and Happy New Year.

A few interesting points
- Shahrukh is second only to Rajesh Khanna when it comes to back-to-back hits. He currently has 10 and could eventually beat Khanna’s 15 consecutive hits record.
- At the time of this writing, SRK also has almost all the box office records under his name – Highest grosser in India, Highest worldwide grosser, Highest Opening Day / Weekend / Week – just to name a few.
- In every overseas market, Shahrukh is by far the biggest superstar. Some of his older films like Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna are still in the Top 10.
- Not a single Shahrukh Khan film has ever been declared as a box office disaster!
- The total business generated by his films in India is Rs 1642.52 crore, only behind Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar.

Any sensible person can see and judge how is bigger and who is better. And also who is more versatile.
Apart from few movies he’s played the same Rahul/Raj role time and again which is just utter crap. Some of his movies are overrated to such an extent like as jpif they’re the best and most innovative movies ever made. What nonsense. Salman Khan has given more number of all time blockbusters to Bollywood. Most of his movies are dependent on him and not the heroine unlike SRK who’s heroine dependent (except for few movies).
God knows what versatility are you talking abt. He’s seldom acted in sensible movies unlike Aamir Khan whose movies are superb
Srk has 5 blockbusters in his whole career while Salman’s last 5 movies r blockbusters.lol
@beingsalluhater when ur brain fails to understand something then u start calling people stupid and idiot.U should enjoy this moment which Srk has given u after many years.Don’t put pressure on ur brain if u don’t understand any fact.Don’t use it.When ur star not uses his brain in his movies then why r u using it ? lol
@indicine Army, Yeh Lamhe Judai Ke & Billu should ommit from SRK’s movies list.
Srk has only 2 movies which will be remembered forever which r “DDLJ” and “Maya Memsaab”.lol
Out of the two DDLJ is overrated whereas swades which is a good movie is a flop
DDLJ is just overrated as hell whereas swades failed at the box office inspite of being realistic.
Thank God “Billu” is added here as a Srk movie bcoz it was not added in the article “10 hits in a row for Shahrukh” which totally contradicts the article headline if it would have been added there. So Srk don’t have 10 hits in a row bcoz “Billu” is a Srk starrer movie.
Who cares about his hits and flops?
Waiting for DHOOM:3 TEASER !
@indicine yeh lamhe judai ke is not flop it is a all time disaster correct it.
@sachin11 i think u forget Salman cheapest act in the movie Baghi.
What do you have to say about fan which is a flop
@aki akshy needed 102 films to cross 2000 cr and salman needed 70 film to cross 1700 cr.srk movies collected 1690 cr (still counting) by only 55 films.so he will cross 2000 cr mark after 57 films.now say who is bigger. huh
@dark boy u dont care about hits and flops coz ur aamir gave only 9 hits in his 25 yrs career.even rajesh khanna gave 15 hits in only 7 yrs.this is called the real superster.
srk-25 hits (above hit to atbb) aamir-9 hits.this is only domestic.in overseas srk has……….. ha ha ha.
Overseas box office collection is important but Indian films are meant to entertain indians which is much more important
@sachin11 in domestic srk has 8 bb including atbb.salman has 9 bb including atbb.in overseas srk has 17 bb and sallu has only 2.in domestic its neck to neck and in overseas its neck to leg.lol
Is overseas greater to you than domestic box office? Our movies are made to entertain us not others
@dinda11
aamir has only 3 bb, salman has 9, srk has 8 in india….and i wont troll u by putting overseas no.
my brain works well enough to stay away 4m salman movies and to give amir as much credit as he deserves, the rest that u claim are stolen 4m directors & co-stars. for example- he will take all the credit 4m a brand created by john & hrithik.
Lagaan is the greatest film of Indian cinema as announced by history tv channel and shahrukh’s close friend karan johar what srk fans still think that srk is still versatile. Ha ha wat a joke! And they ridicule there brains by making some foolish comments.
Lagaan is the greatest film.
Aamir khan is the greatest actor, producer.
STOP! And OVER!
@sachin11Billu is still much better than disaters like Hello and mai aur mrs khanna..
I like the movie because of Irfan khan who’s much better than SRK
Some of the Highlights of this Article:
Shahrukh Khan is one of the biggest success stories in the industry today.
DDLJ is still running at Maratha Mandir in Mumbai!
Its been a remarkable career for Shahrukh Khan, as good as any the industry has ever witnessed. More than 20 years since he made his debut, SRK remains one of the most loved actors the industry has ever produced.

Shahrukh is second only to Rajesh Khanna when it comes to back-to-back hits. He currently has 10 and could eventually beat Khannas 15 consecutive hits record.
But haters still shamelessly commenting bad about him. Such characterless guys u are.
And for haters my just one question:
DDLJ is still running at Maratha Mandir in Mumbai! Is Salman & So called Perfectionist have this kind of example in their record? Haters r crying about 5 back to back blockbuster but they forget dozen of back to back flops. Haters are crying about 3 Idiots which people dont want to watch in cinema halls now but people still want to watch DDLJ in cinema hall.
Sick haters cry cry cry. KING will rule in whatever case. Just like CE
@hnyrocks yah the whole world knows srk is the biggest superstar in bollywood.but dont convince it to mentally unstable person like nvs sachin11 navin niks r20.bollywood has 3 all time megaster.
1.dilip kumar-emperor
2.amitabh bacchan-shahenshah
3.shahrukh khan-badshah.
if u wnt to say abt 4th.its our bhaijaan-remakeshah.
@darkboy rises aamir is the greatest actor.joke of the millenium.he is not even 10% of amit ji and dilip kumar sahab.srk’s bazigar,devdas,swades.cdi.mnik,ddlj are enough to prove himself a versatile actor and better than overrated aamir.aamir khan is ordinary actor in some extraordinary films.as a producer srk is much bigger than aamir.
If Aamir Khan were to be such an ordinary actor then he would never have given hits rather bbs like 3 idiots, tzp, rang de basanti, raja hindustani, QSQT, dangal, PK, Dil chahta hai. He’s truly a versatile actor and also jjws and andaz apna apna a cult classic. You say he’s overrated? What nonsense
@dhaka express bangladesh doesn’t have a film industry concentrate on your country first rather than comenting on our Indian actors
Top ten best srk movies in terms of acting
1. Chakhde
2. Swades
3. Bazigar
4. Daar
5. MNIK
6. DDLJ
7. KHKN
8. Devdas
9. Don2
10. Khnh
Wowwwww what list. No actor in history will have this kind of list
No body come close to this man for consistency and varieties of roles.
I guess you haven’t seen Vikram of Tamil film industry. None of his movies are overrated. True acting skills are shown by him. There are many Bollywood actors who are streets ahead of him in terms of acting
@Noam: r u out of ur mind…. to answer ur points on 3i.
1) elder people removing pants…… dude if u didnt understood the scene, u r a 5 year old kid… there was a sense behind it.
2) some vulgar cheap speech….. again that was done by keepng in mind that the person saying it dsnt knw the meaning of those wrds n in college life that was not near also for being cheap, i thnk u havent learned uptill college :D
3) i would like to know more what made u say ill defined medical education?
4) conduct a delivery by vaccum…. i bet u r a small kid o blind fan of srk, goggle utar duniya dekh bhai, deliveries are done through vaccum outside India and also have been performed here so better dont say rubbish without knowing
5) chetan bhagat is not worthy to be given credit :D dude it was d actors who made it lovable
6) smooch of actors… now this will make u n ur srk fall on ur face… ur srk who used to puke all around the world that he wont kiss onscreen, what d hell did he do in Jab tak hai jaan, that was fine for u!!!!!!! n y did u forget maya memsaab , the cheapest amongst all…
See, m nt a hater of srk, but if u will blame a classic movie on rubbish arguments den m sorry boss u r pathetic…
@ Indicine: No doubt SRK is big star, but if you are including yeh lamhe judai ke with 0.45 crores collection in the list, then isn’t it a disaster?
Congrats to Srk for chennai express’ success. As a sallu fan I can unashamedly say its well deserved. Let the war end here.
@beingsallu you funny but @sachin11 you are hilarious
Poor haters didn’t understand the myth of Box-office and arguing senselessly. Film verdict depends on cost of the movie and the hype of the movie. Yuvraj, Marigold & Main Aur Mrs Khana were big movies, specially Yuvraj was a huge movie. But at the box-office those movies were rejected big time. So understand the criteria then argu my advice for u. Cheers
@sht yes you are right overacting is consistent part of srk’s acting. He has raised his arms in the every film you have mentioned above with overacting.rofl..

Never knew chamatkar and king uncle were flops…good movies…still watch them everytime on television..
The non performance of swadesh still hurts me…brilliant movie with brilliant songs story message
