Prakash Jha’s last successful film Raajneeti and his latest release Satyagraha make for an interesting comparison. The 2010 film featured top stars like Ajay Devgn, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. For Satyagraha, Jha retained his favourite actor Ajay Devgn and roped in other popular stars like Amitabh Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor.

As you can clearly see from the table above, the weekend belonged to Satyagraha, but Raajneeti was rock-steady during the weekdays.
The weekend collections of Satyagraha is about 15% higher than Raajneeti, but Satyagraha released on significantly higher number of screens (2800 vs 1900) and the average ticket prices was also a little higher. Back then, a 3 day opening weekend business of around 35 crore was considered excellent. In todays times, anything less than 40 crore is average for a big budget film with a wide release.
However, the big difference is in the Monday business of the two films. While Raajneeti passed the ‘Monday test’ with flying colours with a drop of less than 40% from Friday, Satyagraha dropped by around 55%. With significant drops in the range of 10-20%, Satyagraha has collected just 0.35 more than Raajneeti even though it had a much wider release.

ajay devgan was terrific in gangajal. and the movie was bad-ass too.
I definitely feel that prakash jha is a fabulous director and he is underrated . I have loved all his films from gangaajal to satyagraha . But I have not seen apaharan . I think satyagraha is the best prakash jha film of the decade . With fabulous performances from big b , ajay devgn , manoj bajpayee , arjun rampal and good performances from kareena kapoor and amrita rao . Yaad rakhna hamaari chai bahut kadvi hoti hai.
Worst of them was Aarakshan.
The film deviated from its title after 45 min. to “Tabela coaching classes” and was never ending really!!

Unlike most I thoroughly enjoyed Aarakshan but Rajneeti is a better movie. Haven’t watched Satyagraha yet bcuz I made a big mistake that I read review

has to be GANGAAJAL. really the portrayal of an ips officer by jha was just fab and the way AJAY carried the role was also commendable. simply two words. Tabad tod movie. after watching the movie I even starting preparing for civil services. what motivation it gives. salute.
other movie which I really liked was CHAKRAVYUH. again the portrayal of ips officer is super cool. really its like we r living the scenarios. arjun rampal was very good.
really an ips officer is how he and AJAY portrayed and not like salman in wanted. that’s not possible( even though wanted is one of my favourite movies)

@Saksham: i would suggest u to watch apaharan… it is a wonderful movie with powerpack performance by Nana patekar as Tabrez alam…. n ajay is as always good in prakash jha’s venture.
Gangaajal was the best, followed by Rajneeti (except that Devgn’s role was totally out of sync with the movie), and Ranbir was brilliant in it.
Satyagraha heard from a few guys isn’t up to the mark, especially roles of ajay and kareena, and the only positives were Amitabh and Manoj Bajpai. Will catch up on Tv later.
