By now, everyone in the trade knows Salman Khan’s 2016 Eid release ‘Sultan’ has crossed the 300 crore at the domestic box office. However, like YRF-Salman’s previous film ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ in 2012, ‘Sultan’ too could finish just a few lakhs below the 300 crore mark.
While we do not want to get into details, DNA India quotes a source as saying “Their deal (between Salman and YRF) is such that if the film crosses the 300 (crore) figure Salman would get a big chunk of partnership. When Adi (Aditya Chopra) approached Salman for Sultan, the star was quite clear he wanted the same deal as Aamir Khan (Dhoom 3) and Shah Rukh Khan (Fan) got — a 80-20 profit-sharing ration. Adi had agreed because top stars like Aamir, SRK and Salman, rake in the big bucks. But showing lower figures means lesser profits for Salman. For Ek Tha Tiger, too, YRF stopped at the Rs 199.6 crore mark when everyone in the trade knew it had crossed the Rs 200 crore mark”
While it’s a known fact that trade websites are making it ‘touch-and-go’ kind of situation to sustain the traffic of their website (more so since the final collections can never be accurately estimated every morning), Yash Raj Films could (as per DNA source) stand to benefit if Sultan just falls short of the 300 crore mark.
Sultan has collected Rs 297.56 crore in 28 days at the domestic box office. The film is likely to finish its 4th week with net box office collections of 298 crore.

So many Idiots are here in Indicine, to all those Idiots 1st read the article carefully then bark here, it’s clearly mention in the article that “IF it cross 300cr mark then it will get huge profit sharing may be 20% (according to the deal between Salman and Adi), which means if it fails to cross then may be Salman will get only 5% or 10% profit share….
YRF knows that Sultan will cross 300cr easily even before it’s release because the Teaser, Trailer and Songs gets huge thumbs up from Critics as well as from Audience…and Advance booking makes it more confirm….Then after the 5 day collection (180cr) and 1st week collection (209) YRF knows that now it will cross 300cr for sure, that’s why they give huge chunk of Screen to GGM in it’s 2nd week (2000 screen)….No producer will do this, they give 1000 screen at max and run their film at 3000+ screen…But YRF did not do this because they don’t want to share profit with Salman…
Another example is Dhoom 3……At the time of Dhoom 3 they manipulate figure and show high numbers than trade
Dhoom3 Trade – 260cr
Dhoom3 Producers – 285cr
They did that because they know that it will not cross 300cr mark in any case, so they show little high figures, but at the time of SULTAN even Trade are showing that it will cross 300cr, so they start showing lower collections…Such a Shameful attempt of YRF, just to make money they are playing with the feelings of Fans who make their movie big and give so much profit to them….
I think we (Salman Fans) have to teach them (YRF) a lesson by “Boycotting Befikre”, I know it’s wrong thing to do, may be right now I am angry that’s why I am saying this, but someone have to teach them a lesson…..

From inside sources the story is true they have deliberately withheld the true figures, yrf have for years did this not only to Salman but other stars as well. Sad but then one can believe anything because the bribery and corruption is not just limited to YRF but to other production companies it seems this is a natural part of what the country is all about. That is why I will not make a prediction on a film because of what actually goes on. I like a film I go to see it, not at all that interested in the outcome other than if it covers it costs. It seems that honesty is not a part of life in the country on a whole, and its sad, I believe it is time the Tax Office do due diligent studies on these production company and not simply on an individual.

right from the first day I raised this question.. there was something very fishy the way yrf was reporting the collections.. for the first time ever since I have followed trade n figures the official collections were lower than trade collections.. that has never happened ever.. the official collections are always a bit higher than the official figures.. even sites like box office India which reports the lowest collections were higher than the official figures! its a pity that salman has fallen to such business politics by yrf.. its not cool.. salman has given yrf such huge collections n he deserves every bit of the profit.. yrf being too greedy here.. the huge profit they have got is due to salman but still they want more! thank u indicine for this article..

You are talking about that trade knows ETT crossed 200 crs but for your information it has collected about 186 crore approx according to trade which was 13 crore less than producer figure. I am not hurting any ones emotion as I agree that in SULTAN case it may be possible that YRF is defaming and showing less collection for whatever reason because trade figure is slightly higher than producer figure of SULTAN but You wrongly include ETT in this list as Trade figure was below then producers figure in case of ETT.
