By now, everyone in the trade knows Salman Khan’s 2016 Eid release ‘Sultan’ has crossed the 300 crore at the domestic box office. However, like YRF-Salman’s previous film ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ in 2012, ‘Sultan’ too could finish just a few lakhs below the 300 crore mark.
While we do not want to get into details, DNA India quotes a source as saying “Their deal (between Salman and YRF) is such that if the film crosses the 300 (crore) figure Salman would get a big chunk of partnership. When Adi (Aditya Chopra) approached Salman for Sultan, the star was quite clear he wanted the same deal as Aamir Khan (Dhoom 3) and Shah Rukh Khan (Fan) got — a 80-20 profit-sharing ration. Adi had agreed because top stars like Aamir, SRK and Salman, rake in the big bucks. But showing lower figures means lesser profits for Salman. For Ek Tha Tiger, too, YRF stopped at the Rs 199.6 crore mark when everyone in the trade knew it had crossed the Rs 200 crore mark”
While it’s a known fact that trade websites are making it ‘touch-and-go’ kind of situation to sustain the traffic of their website (more so since the final collections can never be accurately estimated every morning), Yash Raj Films could (as per DNA source) stand to benefit if Sultan just falls short of the 300 crore mark.
Sultan has collected Rs 297.56 crore in 28 days at the domestic box office. The film is likely to finish its 4th week with net box office collections of 298 crore.
Its not about the few crs its abt a landmark. There are contracts that state that if a film crosses a certain figure the sharing percentage changes. Its similar to what footballers do. @ Navin

Speculating about the opening day manipulation of HNY or justifying ‘why Sultan didn’t cross 300cr’ is not their job.
In one of QnA sessions, they made an absurd remark about the footfalls of HNY too.
My suggestion to them is, if their sources are so strong and authentic, they should manually collect the data from each center and publish (just like what BOI does). But if they include official collections into their analysis, there is no place for ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ but they should firmly stick to the official data.
As far as my interests are concerned, I am more interested in articles like “Verdict delayed in Salman case”, “Salman Khan reached the court”, “Salman Khan was seen accompanied with couple of black bucks”, “Salman was seen taking a test drive on newly invented ‘Driver-less’ car” etc.

There should be a new tax system coming into place possibly late next year when there is one tax rate across India and it will be possibly work out 50% lower for Hindi films. @XZone, at the time of D3, the highest realistic target for the BO collections was 250 Crores, not 300 Crores. So, the deal with Aamir might have been done on that basis.
But since D3 comfortably crossed 250 Crores, no room left for them to lower any figures.

I want to say just 1thing. When everyone is inflating collections by 20-30cr example being hny krishh 3 and even to an extent D3, then I have just one question that how honest have yrf become that they don’t care about landmarks like 200cr and 300cr even if the movies finish at 199.66 for ett or in this case maybe a similar figure like 299.66cr. If yrf has become so honest there should be a separate honesty award which should be awarded to yrf each year. Though jthj official was 122 when boi gave only 102. Their honesty slept back then but in Salman movies they become the biggest sadhus in town whose collection goes even below boi which is historic i must say..
We should either worship them for their so called honesty or we should expect that one of the most dirtiest game ever is being played on Salman. It can be considered a coincidence once but exactly the same occurrence twice with the same production smacks of malice and conspiracy.
