About a year ago, Excel Entertainment had announced ‘Eid 2015’ as the release date of Rahul Dholakia’s ‘Raees’, a date that was already booked by Kabir Khan for ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’.
The director wasn’t pleased, but said that he would stick to his release date. Kabir had said ”Our film (Bajrangi Bhaijaan) was announced long back and if Shah Rukh Khan’s film is also releasing on Eid 2015, it makes no difference. Our project will definitely release on Eid 2015. Anybody else who wants to release their film on that day, is welcome.”
The clash was averted, as Shah Rukh Khan first completed ‘Fan’ before moving on to shoot ‘Raees’.
A year later, history has repeated itself. However, this time around, it was Excel Entertainment and SRK who first blocked ‘Eid 2016’ as the release date for ‘Raees’.
Two months after their announcement, Yash Raj Films has released a ‘date announcement video’ confirmed that Salman Khan will once again have a Eid release during 2016.
Which actor or banner will back out? Who will eventually get the lucrative Eid 2016 weekend? Remember, the only year that Salman didn’t have a film ready for Eid, it was Shahrukh who released his film and delivered the biggest grosser of all time (Chennai Express in 2013).
Which film would you want to watch during Eid next year – Ali Abbas Zafar’s Sultan, where Salman will be seen playing a wrestler or Rahul Dholakia’s Raees, a film where Shahrukh Khan plays a Gujrati don.

No one should make it a issue…Raees looks to be a good movie, content driven it can release on independence day..no place for ego clash with salman or yrf .. clash must be averted as industry needs big movies every week doing big business not clash which hurts overall business of the movies…
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai – Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998): A dream David Dhawan project starring Amitabh Bachchan – Govinda with superhit music clashed with an SRK rom-com Kuch Kuch Hota Hai directed by debutant Karan Johar. Both films did well eventually but Kuch Kuch Hota Hai overshadowed the comic caper and went on to become an ‘All Time Blockbuster’ breaking many records.
Mohabbatein – Mission Kashmir (2000): Hrithik Roshan was a national-craze after the mega success of Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. On the other hand SRK’s releases in 2000, Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani and Josh, failed to live upto expectations. But his never-say-die spirit resurfaced again as Aditya Chopra’s Mohabbatein became a blockbuster. Mission Kashmir got a bigger initial but failed to sustain at the box office.
Veer Zaara / Aitraaz / Mughal-E-Azam / Naach (2004): Yash Chopra’s Veer Zaara emerged the first choice for cinegoers for Diwali 2004 ahead of Abbas Mustan’s Aitraaz, the colored version of Mughal-E-Azam and Ram Gopal Varma’s Naach. Though Aitraaz and Mughal-E-Azam turned out to be an average grossers, Naach was a disaster. Veer Zaara went on to be the biggest hit of the year.
Don – Jaan-E-Mann (2006): This was a biggie – Shahrukh Khan’s Don squared up against Salman and Akshay Kumar’s Jaan-e-mann. The result? SRK won yet again. Although Jaan-e-Mann was a well made film with melodious music, it failed to match the might of the Don.
Om Shanti Om – Saawariya (2007): Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om clashed with master director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya. The later’s film was much-hyped, as it was the launch vehicle of two star kids Ranbir and Sonam Kapoor. Pre-release, SRK promised to ‘destroy’ Saawariya.. which he eventually did as OSO went on to be the biggest grosser of year, while Saawariya tanked after a good initial.

I don’t think they will clash. These clashes are always avoided most of the time and that’s how it should be. Eid releases have become synonymous with a Salman Khan film just like Diwali with Shahrukh Khan and Christmas with Aamir Khan. However, as a film lover, I have a feeling Raees would be a superior film in terms of content and depth but lesser in terms of commercial values compared to Sultan. So a solo release for a film like Raees is a must whenever it releases for it to become a big grosser.
eid means action nt thriller.so sultan will release.raees should release on independence day that suits for raees.
if clash happen both suffer losses.and of course sultan will emerge winner but salman have to beat srk in promotion bcoz that is the reason why srk film works.and yashraj will with salman.

Hahaha, very interesting clash. Clash of the titans.
But I think if Raees release with Sultan than Sultan is the winner all the way, the eid advantage will go to Salman’s way. Other thing because it about Salman and Wrestling than it will create buzz in youth both classes and masses, while Raees I.e. don 3 won’t have much apeeal in masses.
YRF is big banner and if they announce release date than they can’t make their way back. So SRK-YRF relationship can only possibility to avert clash but I think raess will postpone.
Interesting fact now some srk fans are targeting Salman that he is arrogant blah blah that he clashing with srk despite excel booked it earlier, aren’t they aware its yrf production who are responsible for the clash just like they are for postponement of fan from aug14,2015 to any day in 2016.
And if Salman is responsible than srk too for fan due to his dilwale release.
I think the title Sultan is also much more catchy than Raees just like EK tha Tiger title.

next. year sultan,dangal,raees,fan,mohanjodaro,shivay,shudhi all are big movies and there are only 3 holiday periods so 4 movies will defiently release on non holiday , aamir is dangal confirm for chrismas so it will no change if sultan relesae on eid then raees will release on 15 august but there is. hritik mohanjodaro then raees chance only for diwali and gandhi jayanti

think sultan will make it on eid 2016 as it probably will be a more commercial festive film. Clash is not possible.
however, that would be frustrating for makers of Raees…..they’ll have to look for a new release date
