Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees was outstanding for the second consecutive day at the box office, as the film – as per early estimates, has shown growth of around 20-25% on Thursday to take its 2-day total to around the 47 crore mark.
The film continued to outperform Kaabil almost all across the country, with Raees now almost becoming a craze in muslim dominated areas and single screens. It’s a typical masala film, where the lead star (in this case, a megastar) plays a larger-than-life role. The fact that SRK hasn’t played a role like this in a very long time, seems to be really helping the film at mass centres – Don 2 was in the same space, but was on the classier side and targeted at the multiplex audience. Hence, the impact wasn’t as much as Raees.
The masses are celebrating Shah Rukh Khan after a very long time, reports are coming in that the atmosphere at theatres is almost festive-like. It’s a genre that he hasn’t fully explored in his career, preferring overseas-shot classier films instead. If Raees continues to perform, it’ll probably change his mind and do films that also appeal to the ‘forgotten’ section of the audience (the industry doesn’t do enough films for them anymore).
The advance booking for tomorrow (Friday) is good, with tickets worth 2-3 crore sold in advance, so the film should continue its good run. A total of 15 crore plus on Friday would be extraordinary, while anything below 14-15 crore would be a normal drop for a working day. Anything below 13 crore will be a cause for concern.
Raees is ruling the box office and now has a significant lead over Kaabil. The next few days will give us a clearer picture on whether Raees can continue to hold on to the lead, or the gap narrows down. A 150 crore plus total is SRK need to ensure that Raees is a big success.

@Tiger Sultan Saturday collection was on 4th day, and its not related to opening but for wom. I am talking about pure non-holiday opening collection as for Indicine only that matters. Even if go to that logic than even Dangal 10th day collection is 32cr. Not even talking about wom factor here only for opening day. That’s it.
They think that only 2 superstar who get opening, nothing against Salman than why none of them crossed 30cr opening on complete non-holiday. Even as per BOI the biggest opening with all factors belong to D3, If Aamir with brand can do that big on complete non-holiday than Salman & Srk is way bigger for them, why Dilwale and Raees only collected 21cr with clash, Raees opening couldn’t crossed 30cr solo, they atlease close to 25cr with clash , isn’t it?
I don’t think after collection of opening day any film maker will dare to release their film with these megastars. Respect for red chillies for not manipulating collections this time I think salman ki sangati ka asar hai. but everywhere (except his fans!!) its recieving negative comments. its the same old cliche’ and its a typical masala movie as you reviewed. hence it’ll end in 120 cr nett. its not an expected srk movie and verdict when last 3 outings he flopped!!. bad choice of script. nawazuddin, only saving grace, otherwise it would’ve been another 60 cr venture..lol
Saw Raees yesterday. SRK is good but Nawazuddin was way better.
Lol…. Okay SRK is The Biggest crowd puller coz his film Raees collected 20 crs on opening day despite clashing and that too on Republic day (which is smaller than EDX). Then why the hell HNY failed on the biggest Holiday ? Why Don 2 and RaOne failed to beat Ready a non holiday film ?! (for ur kind information, post ipl was not considered as holiday and if u say that period as holiday then Salman is the only actor who created Two holidays, 1-Eid and 2-Post IPL. Now we can say that Post IPL is like small holiday but in 2011 it wasn’t.

Sultan managed to collect around around 35cr on its third & fourth days (completely non holiday). Is it so difficult to understand that if a movie could earned 35cr on its 3rd/4th day then it would have easily done the same in its opening day (normal Friday)???
BTW, BOI has already declared that Bajrangi Bhaihaan & Kick’s opening were on par with Dhoom 3 considering all the factors. In BOI’s language REAL VALUE (share ur twitter id, I’ll give SS). Therefore, I don’t see any need of chanting that Salman is unable to surpass 30cr mark on opening day/single day on non holiday.

Srk do lots of cheap & cheat moves from start thats why Raees ahead in collections but I hope that Kaabil will beat Raees soon.
