Prem Ratan Dhan Payo Music Review

The music album of ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ has been released amidst exponential expectations from one and all. Certainly the wheel of the professional life of Bollywood megastar Salman Khan has come a full circle as he is back to the place where it all started for him. And the ‘now famous’ first line of the trailer confirms the same - ‘Main Waapas Aa Gaya’.

Can the Rajshri-Salman combo live up to the legacy of ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’ and ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’. Can Himesh Reshammiya deliver a classic masterpiece like ‘Tere Naam’. Well, the answers to these and many more other curious queries will certainly be crystal clear in the near future.

For now, let us press the play button of the most anticipated music album of the year.

1) Prem Leela: Album kick starts with this song which sounds like an introductory number for Prem’s character. After playing a Lord Hanuman devotee in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, Salman seems to be portraying an adherent Lord Rama follower. The signature tune is catchy and the lyrics depict Ram-Leela setting perfectly. Vocals rendered by Himesh’s prodigies Aman Trikhia and Vineet Singh are praiseworthy though the song is not in the category of instant chartbusters. (3.5/5)

2) Prem Ratan Dhan Payo: Meera’s famous bhajan ‘Ram Ratan Dhan Payo’ has inspired this movie’s title as Prem’s character is again synonymous to Ram in the title track. Himesh shows his unmatchable grip on the traditional Indian music (Oodhani, Odh Li Chunariya, Teri Chunariya) and delivers a melodious number. Palak Muchhal is in top form and sings it beautifully. A glimpse of Irshad Kamil’s brilliance is heard in the beginning of the track – ‘Sukh Dukh Jhootha, Dhan Bhi Jhootha, Jhoothi Moh Maaya, Sachcha Mann ka wo kona jahaan Prem Ratan Paaya’. (4.5/5)

3) Jalte Diye: Himesh’s courage and confidence to expose the raw talent from the various talent hunt shows in this huge platform is praiseworthy. Anweshaa (Fame Amul Star Of India) is surprisingly flawless in this song and is ably supported by Vineet Singh and Shabab Sabri. Song begins with Harshdeep Kaur’s passionate voice which sets the tone for this semi-classical romantic melody. (4/5)

4) Aaj Unse Milna Hai: Remember the classic Kishore Kumar’s melody from ‘Paraya Dhan’ – ‘Aaj Unse Pehli Mulaqat Hogi’ or Salman’s own ‘Deewaana Main Chala’. The theme is similar in this typical Sooraj Barjatya Song where the hero is on the way to meet his dream girl. The beginning chorus gives an impression of a classic dance number but it turns out to be lovable travel song. Composition is simple but is wonderfully emoted by Shaan, who is heard after a hiatus. (4/5)

5) Jab Tum Chaho: This is a regular situational song with a 90s feel attached to it where the lady love is complaining and guy is trying to win her all over again. Palak Muchhal, Mohd Irfan and Darshan Raval render this regular number with utmost ease. (3.5/5)

6) Halo Re: Aman Trikhia is energetically behind the mic again after ‘Prem Leela’ for ‘Halo Re’. While the former has flavors of Ram-Leela, latter is based on Radha-Krishna chapters. Words penned by Irshad Kamil deserves a mention here. (3/5)

7) Tod Tadaiyya: This can be termed as a proper dance number of the album. The choice of singers is impeccable as Neeraj Sridhar and Neeti Mohan are just remarkable. This song will go down really well with the masses and is supposed to be a highlight on screen. (4/5)

8) Bachpan Kahan: Himesh weilds the microphone for arguably the best song of the album. Reshammiya has composed for numerous Salman movies but has never been the voice of his mentor under his own music direction. The only time he has sung for Salman is ‘Photocopy’ from ‘Jai Ho’ which is Sajid-Wajid composition. We need to wait and watch whether this is background song or Salman will lip synch it. Irshad shows his impeccable class with simple and effective lyrics which go well with all age groups. (4.5/5)

To complete the album we have 2 more versions of ‘Aaj Unse Milna Hai’. ‘Murli Ki Taano Si’ is slower version with couple of lines rendered by Shaan again. ‘Aaj Unse Kehna Hai’ is female version of same song sung by Aishwarya Majumdar again having just the mukhda. Song ends with the lines from the title track of the movie.

Rating: ★★★★☆

‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ is certainly not a run of the mill Bollywood album consisting of regular item songs and routine high beat remixes. The songs might not appeal to the DJ ambience and also to the specific listeners who are expecting a ‘Baby Doll’ or a ‘Dhinka Chika’. Songs are highly situational and designed with honest effort to suit the storyline of the movie. Himesh Reshammiya, as always, has delivered an outstanding score and lyrics by Irshad Kamil are results of deep thoughts and imaginations. This music has potential to reach the zenith if the film succeeds at the box office, which should not be a tough ask given the track record of Rajshri-Salman combo.

Note: One of the reasons why we delayed publishing the music review of ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ was because we wanted to listen to the entire music album multiple times before finally reviewing it. Like most Sooraj Barjatya films, the music of PRDP does take time to grow on the listeners.

  • Why are these Insecure Khans fans always on Salman Khan article? What will you achieve by spewing shit from you mouths? I know your idols main trait is being a insecure but at least you be better. This movie will set record which even dilwale won’t even reach. And that will make your Insecure Khan, King of Kings Insecure Khan.

  • I loved the song jalte diye and aaj unse milna hai. I am huge Srk fan but still I can not say srk’s stardom is bigger than Salman. Currently Salman is biggest star and no one can come close to him, even srk as well. Best wishes from a huge Srk fan.

  • @SUNNY CHECHI How funny that you are calling yourself low class, I always knew you were of a low class caste but never realize just how low class you are. A brainless one at that, and you have the audacity to refer to Salman Khan fans as low class, you red ant moron. You are a fan of a drunkard, drug addict and cigarette addicted individual and you have the gall to refer to others as low class, boy now know for sure your head and brains are in your derriere that is why you can’t get it out to live in the present and future but in the past. So stop referring to yourself as low class, and bear in mind as you point one finger four point back at you. Go clean your rear and maybe you will be able to see and hear better.

  • @ Babaji :
Abhishek Sahrma gave 3/5 to CE album and HNY album , both of which were PRDP album . So every time he doesn’t please Khan fans .

  • PRDP album certainly seems an anachronism in today’ era.
However, true to the theme of the film and need of the Barjatyas….. The album surely is an opulent, analogous to the opulence of the film…and does certain justice to bygone 90’s Era…

Himesh should be highly reverred for bestowing more songs on the fresh n young cavalcade of singers, viz., Palak Muchchal, Aman Trikha, Vineet Singh, Anwesha, Aishwarya, Neeti Mohan, Shadab, Mohd Irfaan, etc…

Even Shaan makes a decent comeback, brings back his mushiness…

Himesh renders a song so subtly n with surprising restraint… NAILS it !!

However, the album still falls flat on the creativity perspective, in terms of instrumentations and arrangements, even lyrics I would say…

When it’s India’ Super Hit Machine and Musical Maestro Himesh Reshammiya at the helm of affairs… Expectations are SKY HIGH…at an Apogee !!

I feel PRDP is 7.5/10… giving a slightly upper edge to Himesh, for creating a Soundtrack true to 90s…. !!

  • I cant agree with your final rating as Im still in shock after sunday when I heard the entire jukebox for the first time so I will stick with my strict 1.5/5 for now. On aside note Im glad that you reserved judgement until you heard the entire album afew times unlike me.

For me Im addicted to ‘aaj unse milna hai’ as Im listening to that nonstop. Havent tried to listen to other songs since sunday but Im sure they may grow on me but still I feel the instant attraction I was expecting from PRDP was lacking big time.

    Good honest review though

  • PS on a big BIG album with 8-10 songs then its always gonna be difficult for music producers/ composers to deliver the near perfect album like a Mohabbatein or MPK from yesteryear where each n every song is top draw etc etc

Me personally the album could have been cut down to just 6 or 7 tracks but lets wait n see how the songs fit in with the narrative/ screenplay..!

  • Ones who are saying that prdp music is outdated and not worth 4* they should read the review by Joginder Tuteja who gave 4.5* to PRDP Music. I don’t understand why are some people criticizing such a melodious album.

  • @5:14pm

    Lol
So true n our complan boy still lives in the 90s where his mythological Queen Charlie is ruling the roost so Im expecting him to love prdp music…!

  • Double standards of lungiwales- youth wont love 90s music but Maratha Mandir must carry on playing Dilwale Lungi Le Jayenge for another 20 yrs depriving local youth around MM area a chance to watch modern films…!

  • @fanny chechi

Joker786 was quality… Theres delusional n then theres joker insanity- you joker fans really are deserving of the bashing you get daily…! Keep it up

  • ‘Aaj unse kehna hai’ was initially going to be the name of our hyderabadi mechanics autobiography bcoz everyday he wants to say something but his words are so confusing that it looks like a retard n a constipated gorilla were fighting for control over the keyboard..! But not to worry for fans of the Complanholic (only fan is asad khan nangawala) coz the new title of his autobiography well be:-
    “How to repair automobiles-BADLY…!”

  • My most awaited films of 2015 and 2016.
    PRDP
    hers pheri 3
    Baadshaho
    Sultan
    Shivaay
    Mohenjo daro
    Dangal.

Being aamir fan, dangal is undoubtedly my most awaited film but excited to watch PRDP this diwaali as well as Salman wil be back in his 1990s most loved avatar prem.

  • I like to keep a scrap book ? of quote that catch my eye this is a Steve Jobs quote for all Salman Khan fans who comment on this site and for the indicine team
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other peoples thinking. Don’t let the noise of others opinions drown out your own inner voice and most important have the courage to follow your heart and intuition”.
Yesterday is gone, tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today let us begin. We can and will love and give support to Salman Khan and our friends and family ? for who they are, not what they have done, and in spite of what others think. By this shall all men know when you love them with unconditional love. God bless you all. I am off on a world cruise but will keep in touch from ship to shore when I can. And of course rebuke the red ants.

  • This album grows slowly on your mind and gradually u’ll find yourself addicted to these songs. For those who are saying that the songs lack instant attraction, I would say that evergreen songs don’t make instant impression on your mind. They gradually grow and get stuck in the listner’s mind. Evergreen songs don’t come like a hurricane but like fresh air that always keeps blowing. PRDP will be considered as best music album of the year.

  • @Navin ha ha ha. Keep rocking. Your comments are damn hilarious. BTW I was not visiting indicine regularly for last few months as I had my last semester very important so I could rarely get the time. But now I am done so I may visit indicine as regularly as i used to last year. BTW where are the old fellows @Bulli, @aks, @Sky, @bulli student, @Mighty King and few othes? Do they visit indicine now?

  • To the Reviewer,
you need to drink less in order give a proper review. HNY 4 star, bang bang music album 3 star and PRDP music 4 star. Come on man you are drunk. Prdp songs are rejected. And if its bcoz of situational then every movie has situational songs. We are in 2015 not in 1990. Music era has changed. Disappointed with the review. Instead of 1 star you gave it 4 star. Pk 3.5 star and HNY 4 star. Thats how indicine thinks. Bravo bravo.

  • No comments on review…. my fa and Best of This Album by far to me is Aaj Unse Milna Hai by my All Time Fav SHAAN….Full credit goes to Him!!!waaah song That is….

  • @Chokezone : You got another reason to Choke from Indicine. As an avid listener of Bhajaans like DDLJ, KKHH, DTPH, Paheli, Swades, HNY, CE you have more experienced in that genre. Now start singing … Maa muradein puri kardey Halwa baat oongaaaaaaaa ………… Lol !!!!!!!!!!! Dont worry no chance for your murad (SRK giving a HGOTY) for at least 2 years. May be in 2017 Salman or Aamir may throw a bheek at your king !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Too much fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You are what you like, but my favorite song is:
    “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” – 5 *
    “Halo Re” – 5 *
    “Jalte Dieu” – 4 *
    “Aaj Unse Milna Hai” – 4 *

You can ask the site to translate the song into English? Or write lyrics in Hindi (translated to program – translator). I want to know what song.

  • I found a translation, very disappointed (as well as “Selfie Le Le Re” from “BB”), as the pagan religion is unacceptable. It is a pity …
The musical treatment of the song amazing voice … everything is fine … Besides of text! It’s a pity!!!
