Prem Ratan Dhan Payo Music Review

The music album of ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ has been released amidst exponential expectations from one and all. Certainly the wheel of the professional life of Bollywood megastar Salman Khan has come a full circle as he is back to the place where it all started for him. And the ‘now famous’ first line of the trailer confirms the same - ‘Main Waapas Aa Gaya’.

Can the Rajshri-Salman combo live up to the legacy of ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’ and ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’. Can Himesh Reshammiya deliver a classic masterpiece like ‘Tere Naam’. Well, the answers to these and many more other curious queries will certainly be crystal clear in the near future.

For now, let us press the play button of the most anticipated music album of the year.

1) Prem Leela: Album kick starts with this song which sounds like an introductory number for Prem’s character. After playing a Lord Hanuman devotee in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, Salman seems to be portraying an adherent Lord Rama follower. The signature tune is catchy and the lyrics depict Ram-Leela setting perfectly. Vocals rendered by Himesh’s prodigies Aman Trikhia and Vineet Singh are praiseworthy though the song is not in the category of instant chartbusters. (3.5/5)

2) Prem Ratan Dhan Payo: Meera’s famous bhajan ‘Ram Ratan Dhan Payo’ has inspired this movie’s title as Prem’s character is again synonymous to Ram in the title track. Himesh shows his unmatchable grip on the traditional Indian music (Oodhani, Odh Li Chunariya, Teri Chunariya) and delivers a melodious number. Palak Muchhal is in top form and sings it beautifully. A glimpse of Irshad Kamil’s brilliance is heard in the beginning of the track – ‘Sukh Dukh Jhootha, Dhan Bhi Jhootha, Jhoothi Moh Maaya, Sachcha Mann ka wo kona jahaan Prem Ratan Paaya’. (4.5/5)

3) Jalte Diye: Himesh’s courage and confidence to expose the raw talent from the various talent hunt shows in this huge platform is praiseworthy. Anweshaa (Fame Amul Star Of India) is surprisingly flawless in this song and is ably supported by Vineet Singh and Shabab Sabri. Song begins with Harshdeep Kaur’s passionate voice which sets the tone for this semi-classical romantic melody. (4/5)

4) Aaj Unse Milna Hai: Remember the classic Kishore Kumar’s melody from ‘Paraya Dhan’ – ‘Aaj Unse Pehli Mulaqat Hogi’ or Salman’s own ‘Deewaana Main Chala’. The theme is similar in this typical Sooraj Barjatya Song where the hero is on the way to meet his dream girl. The beginning chorus gives an impression of a classic dance number but it turns out to be lovable travel song. Composition is simple but is wonderfully emoted by Shaan, who is heard after a hiatus. (4/5)

5) Jab Tum Chaho: This is a regular situational song with a 90s feel attached to it where the lady love is complaining and guy is trying to win her all over again. Palak Muchhal, Mohd Irfan and Darshan Raval render this regular number with utmost ease. (3.5/5)

6) Halo Re: Aman Trikhia is energetically behind the mic again after ‘Prem Leela’ for ‘Halo Re’. While the former has flavors of Ram-Leela, latter is based on Radha-Krishna chapters. Words penned by Irshad Kamil deserves a mention here. (3/5)

7) Tod Tadaiyya: This can be termed as a proper dance number of the album. The choice of singers is impeccable as Neeraj Sridhar and Neeti Mohan are just remarkable. This song will go down really well with the masses and is supposed to be a highlight on screen. (4/5)

8) Bachpan Kahan: Himesh weilds the microphone for arguably the best song of the album. Reshammiya has composed for numerous Salman movies but has never been the voice of his mentor under his own music direction. The only time he has sung for Salman is ‘Photocopy’ from ‘Jai Ho’ which is Sajid-Wajid composition. We need to wait and watch whether this is background song or Salman will lip synch it. Irshad shows his impeccable class with simple and effective lyrics which go well with all age groups. (4.5/5)

To complete the album we have 2 more versions of ‘Aaj Unse Milna Hai’. ‘Murli Ki Taano Si’ is slower version with couple of lines rendered by Shaan again. ‘Aaj Unse Kehna Hai’ is female version of same song sung by Aishwarya Majumdar again having just the mukhda. Song ends with the lines from the title track of the movie.

Rating: ★★★★☆

‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ is certainly not a run of the mill Bollywood album consisting of regular item songs and routine high beat remixes. The songs might not appeal to the DJ ambience and also to the specific listeners who are expecting a ‘Baby Doll’ or a ‘Dhinka Chika’. Songs are highly situational and designed with honest effort to suit the storyline of the movie. Himesh Reshammiya, as always, has delivered an outstanding score and lyrics by Irshad Kamil are results of deep thoughts and imaginations. This music has potential to reach the zenith if the film succeeds at the box office, which should not be a tough ask given the track record of Rajshri-Salman combo.

Note: One of the reasons why we delayed publishing the music review of ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ was because we wanted to listen to the entire music album multiple times before finally reviewing it. Like most Sooraj Barjatya films, the music of PRDP does take time to grow on the listeners.

  • Pk hai kya!!
The songs aren’t bad by any means but certainly not that good to get a 4* rating. The title song sounds brilliant but the rest of the album is just decent. If repeat value is taken into consideration then during CE’s review Tera Raasta Chhodoon Na shouldn’t have been termed as an average song. Please be unbiased when it comes to reviews

  • For me its Jalte Diye…
What a great composition and singing….
    I’ve been addicted to it.
Bachpan Kahan could have been the best one if sung by Sonu Nigam or some other singer of same caliber instead of Himesh…
Title track and Aaj Unse Milna Hai are also good.

  • Very bad album…..songs are too outdated…who cares about critics reviews….people already rejected.

    Worst album of the year

  • Tamasha album is mind blowing. Very youthful, refreshing and rocking. Its already on top at iTunes even before the music is out.

    Best album of the year

  • The album is just up my street as we say. It is one of the best I have heard in a long time but then all the music from Salman movies are always great. But the red ants ? haters don’t have the guts to tell the difference so they revert back to being negative but then who cares music ? and movie ? is made for Salman fans. Love ? it. No need for me to make prediction because it does not matter will love ? it regardless of who says what.

  • 21 toopon ki salami for Indicine.Giving 4 stars to HNY and now to PRDP music are great blunders by Indicine.
“Songs are highly situational and designed with honest effort to suit the storyline of the movie”.
Saying this you have to give every music album 4 stars as most movies have songs according to situation. So question of good or bad has dead. From now to onward for getting good rating songs have to be occasional but quality may be shit..

  • Joginder Tuteja of Bollywood Hungama gave 4.5/5 ratings to PRDP album.

  • @sunny chechi music is already big hit go check one site wapking.in where title song has crossed 6lacks download in just two days and all songs crossed 1 lack download where as lifetime downloads of singh is bling first song is 3lacks lol so it is already bigger hit than sib album in just 2days after ur actor,s flops u need rest for some time go n sleep lol

  • The more one listens to the songs the more the one will start liking them , I have liked almost all the songs except for 2 which I found them to be comparatively below standard but again they are all situational songs and should go well with the plot.

The title track & aaj unse milna hei are the best of the lot , 4.999/5 from my side , seriously man palak’s soothing & melodious voice coupled with such good lyrics in the title track and the too sugary & rich music in the aaj unse milna track keep haunting me with a feel-good effect , after a long time I have heard such kind of songs!

To those u r blabbering that these songs remind us the songs of 90s let me remind them that the 90s era produced some of the greatest and most soulful, heart-touching , melodious , romantic , feel-good timeless songs of all time in Bollywood history , indeed many commentators say that the 90s era was the golden era for Bollywood as far as its songs, music, singers & composers were concerned , there’s a reason why the genuine music lovers still listen to the songs of 90s as most of them are evergreen timeless classics.

Today’s songs like dhinka chikka jumme ki raat, lungi dance, honey singh’s songs and many other meaningless & insignificant songs will become instant chart busters within no time but after sometime & after repeated listening they lose their value but the melodies of 90s and of the much older eras never lose their charm even after decades & even after listening to them infinite times , a real srk fan may get bored of listening to lungi dance 2 or 3 times continuously but he/she would never ever get bored of listening to ‘tujhe dekha tho yeh jana sanam ‘ any number of times , even now whenever I listen to some songs like ‘dil deewana ‘ from MPK , ‘dekha hei pehli baar’ from saajan, ‘oo jaane jaana ‘ from PKTDK , ‘yeh ladki badi anjani hei’ from DDLJ, ‘meri mehbooba’ from pardes , aamir khan songs like ‘pehla nasha ‘, ‘pardesi pardesi jaana nahi’, ‘kitna pyaara tujhe rab ne banaya’ , ‘raja ko rani se pyaar ho gaya’, ‘chaha hei tujko ‘ etc I find them to be as magical, as captivating & as refreshing as I found them when I had listened to them for the first time , their magic never seems to fade away with time!

In the 90s we had musical treasures like Roja, Aashiqui , DDLJ, saajan, HAHK, KKHH, Hum dil de chuke sanam, Dil se , dil tho pagal hei, Rangeela, pardes, khamoshi, Hum, mann,
Dil, 1942: a love story, taal,
    Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Deewana,
    Baazigar, Bombay, Sadak, Yes Boss,
Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai, Aur
Pyaar Ho Gaya, Gupt to name a few…the list is just endless and also 90s gave us some of the greatest music composers & playback singers of the bollywood’s modern era. sorry, got a bit nostalgic! :)

I am happy that himesh has put his heart & soul to produce such a kind of rich music , when compared to the musical standards of 90s himesh’s effort may appear just at par but if we compare it with today’s diminishing music standards then himesh’s effort is just outstanding & excellent , it’s one hell of a sincere & dedicated effort from himesh to give us a timeless classic and I think he has succeeded in his endeavor to some extent, I feel the songs will grow much more in effect with the visuals and sooraj ji has never disappointed us in that particular aspect so just expect a visual & musical journey of a lifetime with PRDP .

Get ready for Diwali folks, we are in for a evergreen ATBB!
