This year’s Post-IPL release ‘Holiday – A Solider Is Never Off Duty’ has collected Rs 11.48 crore on its opening day at the box office, making it the 4th highest opening day for a film released in the first weekend after the conclusion of IPL.
Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is by far the biggest opener, followed by Akshay’s Rowdy Rathore and Salman Khan’s Ready.
Every year, Post-IPL releases have been getting wider (screen-count wise) and also setting records for the highest non-holiday opening. Holiday is the first film in 5 years to break the trend.
In the last 4 years, all films have also gone on to be box office blockbusters.

@Babaji ka thullu. Yes totally agreed that Marigold was a huge disaster but Salman wasn’t a superstar at that time so would u say Akshay is not a superstar anymore? Somebody has rightly said OUATIM has almost finished Imran Khan career and afected Akshay’s career so badly that his movie is opening lesser than Ranveer singh and Arjun Kapoor

Any film’s opening not completely goes with stardom of its lead actors, there are several other factors..
2 states opened well bcoz it was an adaptation of hugely popular novel plus the dharma prod. always do good marketing,it was’nt bcoz of Arjun kapoor’s stardom.

Just he was having a bad run with films like Yuvvraj,marigold etc.
And so is Akki having now after Boss,ouatimd..
His previous releases are haunting him,it does’nt mean he is a superstar..
SRK was’nt having that good a phase until CE,his releases were underperforming,though i appreciate him,coz he did’nt gave a flop that time also due to excessive promotions and hype he created before his films.

@Babaji ka thullu. Agreed that many factors depend on film’s opening. If u talk abt Joker (which has had crap trailer) or Special Chabbis (which was not meant to be an entertainer) then I would say whatever ur sying is correct but in the case of holiday everything was going for it. It has good trailer, good poster, very successful director, still only made 12 crs? Replace Akshay with any of the khan or Hrithik or even Ranbhir, movie would take fyling start. Besharam’s trailer, songs was crappy stil it took housfull opening at the ticket window.
To ur second point, Superstar means who can give great buzz and good opening to their film. Salman wasn’t a superstar before Wanted cos he couldnt give the sort of buzz and opening to his film. MNIK was never meant to be an entertainer, still it got super opening and made 72 crs in 2010, which was more than Salman’s biggest hit Wanted then
To ur third point abt Sharukh wasn’t able to give huge grosser, agreed. but SRK Always have had great opening that’s what superstar meant to be

Back to back flops after flops. All these films were big budget mass oriented films which released on Diwali/post IPL and yet became flops. Akkians you have no excuse.
@Babaji Ka Thullu: Akshay is a superstar but a smaller one than Salman. Both Akshay and Salman are known for doing random movies and giving series of flop movies. The only difference is in between flops Salman delivers some massive hits and has 8 highest grossers of the year, whereas Akshay has hardly delivered massive hits in his entire career.
Salman has many great phases however Akshay has only one good phase (2007-2008).
Mr babaji… SRK was always above your akki even in his so called bad phase he delivered 4 back to back 200 cr + grossers worldwide… SRK would have collected 200 cr in india if sos wouldn’t had clashed with jthj. It’s all about release ok mister… SRK got a good release date and he broke all records… Your akki got a good release date even after that holiday flopped. Got it. SRK was,is and will remain the biggest superstar india has ever seen

Yes i am Aamir fan and also salman’s too, i told you that Salman was become my fav since Hahk, but Aamir is the one who admire me. So i am more a Aamirian. Talking about CE show me my single comment where i told that I liked dabangg2 and said CE was bad films. For me CE was a good entertainer i like that film, dabangg2 was itself a remake of dabangg1,so it was bad. I liked Bodyguard which was strictly one time watch, ready was a good family drama but it could be better. You don’t come with your nonsense. Don’t try to judge someone with your kiddo imagination, yes ce was most searched films so as ra1 in 2011 so it doesn’t mean ra1 accepted like ce, for talking about ready,bodyguard etc you better know what these film collected. Ready 122cr was out of reach for srk till ce, so does that movie not accepted acc. to u. Great logic man sorry complan boy.
@Babaji ka thullu… The title Baby isn’t looking good, especially for a spy thriller film. Akshay already have habit of choosing worst possible title for his movie, I know he doesn’t do that but his producers but at least he should interfere in those stuff, even Holiday should have been titled as Pistol, as it was tentatively titled earlier.

@JS — People liked DABBANG only not BODYGUARD…..also those earned 140 crs not 150 crs…..they were masala films with good release dates which SRK haven’t got or give before CE…..Even CE faced competition after 6days still it earned 208-227 crs which SALMAN failed to give despite huge advantages.
