This year’s Post-IPL release ‘Holiday – A Solider Is Never Off Duty’ has collected Rs 11.48 crore on its opening day at the box office, making it the 4th highest opening day for a film released in the first weekend after the conclusion of IPL.
Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is by far the biggest opener, followed by Akshay’s Rowdy Rathore and Salman Khan’s Ready.
Every year, Post-IPL releases have been getting wider (screen-count wise) and also setting records for the highest non-holiday opening. Holiday is the first film in 5 years to break the trend.
In the last 4 years, all films have also gone on to be box office blockbusters.

holiday had many factors going against it from the previous releases — zero buzz, sonakshi , poor songs , and ineffective trailor.so it opened average. Yjhd had deepika, good songs and trailor. But yjhd was overrated dharma movie. And @indicine trailor of kick releasing on 15 june. Waiting for raja natwarlal….!!!!

1. Buzz : 0.0009 only
2. Sonakshi : before the equation was 10, as now Sonakshi became slim the eqation is 11, so paring looks boring now
3. Songs : Absense of A R Rahman is hugely affecting Holiday’s bussiness
4. Trailer : it was damn good before, as film released to empty houses, trailer looks inaffective
5. 5 releases in a year : Boss, Khiladi 786, OUTIM, Special Chubbis and even Joker, stil running in the theater, therefore, ppl didnt went to watch Holiday

I think Its entertainment should be promoted and presented as children’s film,and who knows it might collect decent amount,though i have not much expectations from it.
But after IE,Akki has 3 good films lined up:
1:GABBAR (It will create enough buzz unlike holiday,its title is catchy enough for masses,pairing is fresh)
2.BABY(Spy thriller film by the director of A wednesday and special 26 and it won’t be a crappy film like Agent vinod and ETT)
3)Warrior(Remake of 2011 hwood film,with Sid,A dharma film)

Its expecting that this year we will witness drop, but here drop is huge, but i think the biggest reason of this debacle is surely poor movies churned by akki back to back, thought spl26 was great but its underperformance become talk of the town, this is high time for akki to do 2 movie per year, if he continue to make 4 movies per year and including crap like joker,boss,k786,ouatimd etc than good movies like spl26 and holiday have to suffer. Better luck next time akki, still i hope holiday will touch 100cr. @loki ka kaddu yes you are right salman poor remakes(acc to u) suffer akki the same way Rohit back te back success help srk to get huge success in form of ce, don’t try to be oversmart, fact was doing multiple film make every one to suffer not at present time but in 90s too, aamir,srk,salman when did more than two films in a year they got one flop sure among them, aamir was not able to get clean hit,while srk got success with two banner and Salman got good success and failure both that time.

I agree that Holiday has underperformed but i am damn sure that Holiday will pick up over the weekend . After the failures of Ouatimd and Boss multiplex audiences started to avoid Akki but the word of mouth of Holiday is very good . Akshay has given one of the best performances of his career . Holiday is a brilliant movie . I am shocked and surprised that how indicine gave it 2.5 stars .
