Mohenjo Daro fails at the box office, big setback for Hrithik Roshan

Mohenjo Daro is likely to be one of the biggest failures of Hrithik Roshan’s career, as the film has performed very poorly at the domestic box office on Day 1.

A film that was expected to not only trounce the competition, but record a first day total closer to the 20 crore mark, has ended up with a single digit figure on its opening day at the box office.

After the release of the trailer, it was more or less certain that the film wouldn’t open well at the ticket window. But the promos that followed failed to generate any interest, you expect much better when the team behind ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ returns after 8 long years.

Mohenjo Daro is one of those films that can be declared a disaster right on the day of its release, because the costs are high, the opening is too low and the word-of-mouth is mixed to negative.

For Hrithik, Mohenjo Daro will be the biggest setback of his career. Bigger than a Kites or a Guzaarish, because Kites opened very well and the Guzaarish won him critical acclaim. There is very little the superstar can take away from a film like Mohenjo Daro.

When you feature in one movie in two years, you simply cannot afford to disappoint fans like Hrithik has done with films like Bang Bang and now Mohenjo Daro.

Our lifetime box office prediction for the film, which started at 190 crore prior to the release of the trailer, is now down to Rs 58 crore. The final LBO prediction will be made tomorrow, but there are chances that Mohenjo Daro could finish well below the 50 crore mark at the domestic box office.
