Rustom exceeds expectations on Day 1

Akshay Kumar’s Rustom has exceeded expectations on its opening day at the box office. The film was running at more than double the occupancy of Mohenjo Daro at multiplexes. The first day collections of the film could touch the 15 crore mark, when the final collections come in.

It was a clever marketing strategy that has resulted in an excellent opening day for Rustom. In comparison, Special 26 collected Rs 5.92 crore (clash with ABCD), Baby collected 9.30 crore and Airlift collected Rs 12.35 crore. Rustom managed a better opening than all those films, inspite of facing competition from a big film like Mohenjo Daro.

When one big film releases, the audience has two choices – either to watch the film or not watch it. When there are two big movies, it becomes a weekend that’s not to be missed and the choice comes down to one film or the other. It’s this exact scenario that the makers of Rustom cashed in on and the decision to go ahead with the clash probably came after the poor response to the theatrical trailer of Mohenjo Daro.

The success of Bajirao Mastani last year and Rustom this year, will soon makes clashes a norm in the industry. As soon as a film or a star begins to appear weak or there are internal reports that a big film hasn’t shaped up as well as it was expected to, there is likely to be another film announcement for the same day.

  • OMG 15cr with 2300 Screens! This is simply outstanding and excellent opening. But feeling sad for HR. His 2 years of work wasted.

  • 15 cr is huge, that too, when it was competing against ‘gigantic’ Mohenjo-Daro.
Bad day for HR and his fans I must say.

  • Akshay is on a glorious run. If Rustom goes past 100cr, this will be his third 100cr movie in this year.
A new record, because as far as I know, no other star has given 3 100cr movies in a single year.

P.S. – It’s my assumption. I might be proven wrong.

  • Rustom. Good product and great marketing.
MD. Average product and pathetic marketing.
And results are there for everyone to see

  • But clearly it is evident that Mohenjo Daro is a better film than Rustom…I can’t understand from where all these negativities about Mohenjo Daro are coming from…May be from the people who want Mohenjo Daro to flop just for the sake of Hrithik avoiding the clash with Raees…It’s deeply pathetic

  • Unbelievable !! His movies struggle to cross 12-13 crores in solo release n is now doing 15 crores in a clash !! Impossible things can happen!!

  • This is really amazing. 3-4 months back not many were willing to give Rustom a chance against MD and it was supposedly the under-dog considered by many. Never had any doubt about Akshay’s stardom but MD was considered to be the bigger movie.

The aggressive marketing strategy may have helped but I feel that in its absence too Rustom would have still opened better. May be the margin would have been less. Reason is that since trailer launch Rustom looked to be the more interesting movie.

What a fabulous year Akshay is having !!!! Very happy for him. Congrats to all Akshay fans.

  • Mohanjodaro 3 days collection = Rustom lifetime collection…
I don’t remember the name of the guy but Mr it will get reverse…
Hrithik is a superstar and he will bounce back with storm but iska matlab yeh nhi ki dusro ka mazak udao

  • lets see how the lifetime figures of both films shapes up.
congrats to AK and fans…i knew its gonna happen
feeling bad for hrithik and for those who experiments in the hindi film industry.lately ashutosh has lost his touch and hrithik should choose scripts wisely.hope he moves away from the republic day date

  • #Twinkle_Khanan Ne Kaha The ke Agar Dono Filme Achi chali Toh Vo Party Degi …But ab #Party CANCEL….Kya Yaar Muje Bhi Jana Tha Party mai

  • thats nice, completely undermining akshay’s star power,so according to u rustom works because mohenjodaro is a bad film

  • The second biggest factor for opening is the trust of multiplex audicence that akshay kumar has won back by doing different and content driven film. People now know that if akshay is coming with niche films it must be good.

That’s why Rustom numbers are similar to a big franchise film lile housefull 3 inspite of far less screen and clash with a big film.

  • Komal nahta :- There is not a single moment in the film where audience will feel bored.

    Indicine :- ‘it’s boring’

@Babaji wht do u want 2 say about this awesome line of indicine?
