As part of #IndicineLBO, where we predict the lifetime collections of Bollywood films, here’s our final prediction of Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
Reasons why we feel the film could topple the record of Dhoom 3 and have a chance at becoming only the second film to cross the 300 crore mark
- Extraordinary word-of-mouth: Bajrangi Bhaijaan has received universal acclaim and the response is probably better than Salman’s 2010 film Dabangg. Vast majority of people who have watched the film have liked it. In short, Bajrangi Bhaijaan has everything in its favour to become one of the biggest grossers of all time.
- Two open weeks: Bajrangi Bhaijaan has two open weeks at the box office, after which Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam is scheduled to hit screens. Assuming that the film collects around 170-175 crore in Week 1 and the drop in the second week is around 60-65% (due to the WOM), the Kabir Khan film should collect somewhere around 235-240 crore before ‘Drishyam’.
Reasons why we feel the PK record is out of reach
- Holidays: Along with extra-ordinary word-of-mouth, PK also benefitted from plenty of holidays in its second week. 7th day was a national holiday for Christmas and quite a few schools, colleges, companies remain shut during the days leading to New Year. That’s exactly why Christmas has been the most lucrative period for film business in India in the last 4-5 years, along with the ‘trust’ that the audience have in Aamir Khan films.
- Controversy: All publicity is good publicity! News channels were discussing and dissecting PK right from the second day of its release. Free publicity, which also helped the box office collections of the film.
- Tax Free: Although late in its 2nd week, PK was declared tax free in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal.
- Repeat value: Does Bajrangi Bhaijaan hold the same repeat value as PK? We are not quite sure. There is something about Rajkumar Hirani films, that they get better with repeat-viewing. The more you watch his films, the more you enjoy them.

Music rating 6!!.. wat were they expecting?? A himesh reshammiya or sajid wajid music for a genre that dsnt suit such music..even the promo song was removed coz it dint go with the mood of the movie.. the music here is classic n is in sync with the theme of the movie.. pritam has done a gr8 job that he dsnt fall in trap of goin all out massy!!.. stupidly people want salman to act differently than his previous movies n want the same music!! Gud the makers arnt dumb as they r.. n yes the chicken song also suits coz its for the kid in tbe movie n the kids who watch the movie!! @indicine : Predictions should be made per-release and should not be change after release. after all it is PREDICTION. I remembered, you had predicted 235 crs for BB and 265 crs for Dilwale. Now you after BB Tsunami, you changed to 285 crs and Dilwale 212 crs. I agree that first look, teaser, trailer and music helps a movie to garner buzz based on which you make your predictions but after release prediction does not make any sense. Now dont repeat the same stuff with Dilwale and stick to 212 crs irrespective of its opening or business !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bajrangi Bhaijaan had a huge weekend at overseas box office.Total Worldwide Gross:185 Crores gross approx estimatesThe First weekend worldwide gross is second only to Dhoom 3 (which had collected 192 Crores ) in all time list.This is higher than both PK, and Happy New year or the recent Baahubali.

Weekend collections are just outstanding..but we should remember the fact that the holiday period is generally over now..it may continue in some Muslim dominated areas but overall the holidays are over so in order to beat dhoom 3 it has to trend similar or better than dhoom 3..there is a Hollywood release Ant Man coming next week which may take some screens next week at multiplexes..then we have a big film Drishyam releasing on 31st..and then Mission Impossible is releasing on 7 August which will get a huge release no doubt about that..and finally u have Brothers which is expected to be Akshay Kumar and did malhotras biggest opener till date..so I guess even 250-260 crore finish should make happy to everyone in the trade,film fraternity and also the large fan base
