Here’s the latest update on the highest opening day collections of the Top 15 actors in the industry. With earth-shattering collections of Rs 44.97 crore on Day 1, Shah Rukh Khan continues to rule. Hrithik Roshan, whose last film ‘Bang Bang’ released on a holiday, but was affected by the clash against ’Haider’, comes in at No 2.
The third and fourth spots belong to the two other superstar Khans. Aamir’s PK released on a normal working day, yet managed to collect Rs 26.63 crore. Salman’s Kick was the most affected film in the Top 5 list. His last release not only released on a working day, but also during the Ramadan period.
Varun Dhawan is the biggest gainer so far this year. The actor has managed to double the collections of his last release (Badlapur) with his latest runaway hit (ABCD 2). Ranveer Singh and Akshay Kumar are the other gainers in 2015.
Unfortunately, Ranbir Kapoor, who was recently voted as the most promising superstar among the younger generation of actors, is the biggest loser. His latest release ‘Bombay Velvet’ collected Rs 5.2 crore on its opening day, which is less than 25% of his previous solo release ‘Besharam’.

And @Babaji I wont write anything bad about Akshay, coz I know how much he has worked to come to this position. But if you really think he is not making records because only Khans get to release their movies on big holidays, then I have one advice for you. This time he has got Independence day release, i.e, when Salman released Ek tha tiger and collected 32 cr on the first day with 3300 screens. If Brothers can manage that figure, I will have to believe you Else, you are just wasting your time here.

To be fair, we put too much emphasis on opening day numbers. A film like PK has proven it. It is something which can be bolstered or affected due to number of reasons. The lifetime business matters the most. It will also continue to increase every year because of the increase in multiplexes. We will see new opening records almost every year.
With that being said, opening day numbers of HNY, Bang Bang (clash+less shows) and Kick (Ramadan) are very impressive. The difference between Dhoom 3 and PK is huge which released in same situation, but that is due to many reasons like Dhoom franchise and PK’s music (which was up to the mark IMO), but as I said, end product matters the most.
@Indicine I have no hard feelings for your website, and honestly speaking, most of your articles are interesting, and this is why we all are here. But, this topic really pissed me off, because you know, one movie (PK) that collected 340 cr at the domestic market had 26 cr opening, which is at no.3. It was due to the rich content and extremely positive word of mouth that it picked up in such a way that it is still collecting Around (700 cr wd). We all should be really proud of such movies. But look at the comments, every srk fan is overlooking such big collection and are proud for a movie like Happy New Year. My only concern here is, you being a great site, you should minimize articles that make bad movies look like a good one. Because we know, at any big day, aamir, salman or srk can make a record. Hoever, comparing total business or acting or content is good. But one day collection? At least I dint get.

@Optimist, when we do lifetime collection comparison, people complain that the final business depends on factors like the director who is heading the film, content etc. They say, opening day is a better comparison.

@Yuvraj, why are you comparing an Eid release with Bang Bang? Didn’t you see Indicine wrote Bang Bang clashed with UTV’s Haider, which divided the screens and shows in multiplexes and single screens, it had lesser shows than Mary Kom in many places, which affected its whole lifetime run, unlike Kick, which had to deal with Ramadan (non factor for Hindus) for only opening weekend and not whole lifetime run. Clash and Ramadan affected both of their opening, we all know that.
Why not compare Bang Bang and Jai Ho? Or even better Agneepath and Jai Ho, both of them were January releases, Jai Ho had much bigger screen count and Agneepath had only 1 holiday advantage and Jai Ho released 2 years after Agneepath, when ticket prices and number of multiplexes increased rapidly in those 2 years.
I’m not trying to prove Hrithik is bigger than Salman, Salman is obviously bigger star today, but at least do not undermine other stars like Hrithik, who’s a proven superstar and has a humble personality.

From 2005 (since Aamir come back) to 2014 Aamir had 10 movies (MP,rdb,fanna,tzp,ghajini,3i,talaash,DG,dhoom3,pk)
Hrithik since 2004 (as he has no release in 2005) to 2014 has 10 release (lakshya,krishh,dhoom2,JA,kites,gujaarish,znmd,agnipath,k3,bang bang).
If I count from 2005 than its only 9 release I.e. less than Aamir.
Regarding highest opening grosser.
Knph wasn’t highest opener, I am not sure about kmg. Kites weekend was less than 3i.
Now look at the fresh films hrithik did in last 10 years (lakshya,kites,gujaarish,znmd,JA) while rest are either popular sequals or remake.
Aamur had 2 films 1 remake & 1 sequal. So it means Aamir took more risk than hr.
Hr had done only 20 films in his 15 yr career, aamir had 39 films in 27 years. The way hrithik is heading I don’t think he even completes 35 films in lifetime as he is also choosy like aamir.

looolz, you are comparing a hardcore commercial film like Dhoom 2 with Rang De Basanti. Hrithik has given bigger openings because he has always been a more commercial actor compared to Aamir.
Look at Aamir khan films from 2001 to 2007:
-Lagaan
-Dil Chahta Hai
-Mangal Pandey
-Rang De Basanti
-Fanaa
-Taare Zameen Par
Out of 6 films, only 1 is a hardcore commercial film. Mangal Pandey was slightly commercial. Rest 5 films are completely offbeat. Most stars do 1 risky film after doing 3-4 commercial films. Aamir khan gambles each time.
2006 was the last time Hrithik had highest grosser of the year. Aamir has achieved that feat 4 times in 6 years! PK, 3 idiots, Talaash have received much more critical acclaim than any recent Hrithik film except Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
It’s good that he is back to sensible cinema with Mohenjodaro, but just to point out, Lagaan was a more acclaimed hit compared to Joddha Akhbar!

These all opening numbers and weekend also depend on the Zoner,music,top heroine,director also other than Actor himself. If thing goes well than all 4 (khans & hr) capable to break opening records.
For example you can’t expect Fan to break pk opening weekend even if it a holiday release,similarly how come pk could break d3 weekend on same release time. Ticket rates always increase with every festive release.
