Last Box Office Flop of Bollywood Actors

Aamir Khan (16 years ago, Mela in January 2000) – Aamir’s last flop was nearly 16 years back when Mela released in theatres. Mangal Pandey didn’t do too well at the box office, but managed to recover its investment due to the bumper opening that it took. While many consider ‘Dhobi Ghat’ to be a failure, the film was profitable for its makers as it did reasonably well in India and performed very well overseas. Those two films apart, the most dependable superstar in the industry holds the record for the most number of all time blockbuster – Ghajini, 3 Idiots, Dhoom 3 and PK. He also has mega grossers like Lagaan, Fanaa, Rang De Basanti, Taare Zameen Par (as director and actor).

Shah Rukh Khan (10 years ago, Paheli in June 2005) – Shahrukh’s last failure was 10 years ago when Paheli bombed at the box office. Since 2005, every single SRK film has managed atleast ‘HIT’ status. Films like Om Shanti Om, Chak De India and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi were ‘Blockbusters’. Chennai Express is his biggest grosser ever. While his fans have a lot to look forward to in the next 8 months (Dilwale, Fan, Raees), do read – Shah Rukh Khan Consistency Redefined

Salman Khan (6 years ago, London Dreams in October 2009) – Veer didn’t do too well the box-office, but didn’t ‘Flop’ either. London Dreams failed, but since 2010, Salman has been unstoppable at the box office. 5 back-to-back blockbusters, followed by an average grosser Jai Ho. But the comeback from ‘Jai Ho’ has been stronger with ‘Kick’ being his first 200 crore grosser and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ his first 300 crore film. 7 of his last 8 films have been blockbusters or better!

Hrithik Roshan (5 years ago, Guzaarish in November 2010) – Hrithik has tried his hand at different genres – a coming of age film (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara), revenge drama (Agneepath), superhero film (Krrish 3) and an out-an-out action film (Bang Bang) – all have done well at the box office. His last two films managed to gross 300 crore worldwide. Again, consistency-wise, it’s the Khans at the top followed by Hrithik at No 4.

Varun Dhawan (no flops so far in 3 years) – Varun also made his debut in Student Of The Year. His films that followed have all been successful – Main Tera Hero (Hit), Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (Super Hit), Badlapur (Hit) and ABCD 2 (Super Hit).

Ranveer Singh (1 year back, Kill Dil in November 2014) – He is one of the most promising stars among the younger generation of actors. Kill Dil didn’t do well at the box office and Dil Dhadakne Do was an average grosser. His big test will come later this year when he takes on the might of SRK/Varun/Kajol with his much-awaited film ‘Bajirao Mastani’. It’s easily the most expensive film of his career too.

Ajay Devgan (11 months back, Action Jackson in December 2014) – Ajay has been successful, but not very consistent at the box office. More often than not, Ajay has delivered one hit, followed by a couple of failures. However, the actor will be working in big films like ‘Shivaay’ and ‘Sons Of Sardaar’, both scheduled to get Diwali releases.

Arjun Kapoor (10 months back, Tevar in January 2015) – After films like Gunday and 2 States was a huge hit, Arjun followed it up with ‘Tevar’ a film that didn’t do well at the box office. Since then, he’s been missing from action. He is currently shooting for R. Balki’s ‘Ki and Ka’ with Kareena Kapoor Khan as his co-star.

Ranbir Kapoor (6 months back, Bombay Velvet in May 2015) – Ranbir looked unstoppable after back-to-back successes in Rockstar, Barfi and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Then came Besharam from the director of Salman Khan’s Dabangg. It took a huge start at the box office recording nearly 20 cr on its opening day, but the crash was equally big. He followed it up with films like Roy and Bombay Velvet – the latter was the biggest loss-making film of all time.

Emraan Hashmi (5 months back, Hamari Adhuri Kahani in June 2015) – Emraan was enjoying the peak of his popularity and stardom when he decided to take a break from Mahesh Bhatt’s brand of cinema. He instead opted to explore different genres and work with bigger banners. What followed were films like Shanghai, Ek Thi Daayan, Ghanchakkar and Raja Natwarlal. Nothing worked. Unfortunately, the return to the Bhatt camp hasn’t worked either – Mr X and Hamari Adhuri Kahani, both released in 2015, have been rejected by the audience.

Akshay Kumar (3 months back, Brothers in August 2015) - Akshay’s films are never washouts. Even in the worst case scenario, his films manage to collect 70 crore plus at the domestic box office. Brothers, though, was a biggie. A film that was expected to do 150 / 200 crore, finished with lifetime business of 80 crore.

Sidharth Malhotra (3 months back, Brothers in August 2015) – Sidharth’s debut film Student Of The Year released in October 2012. Since then, all his films have done well at the box office, except the most recent Brothers which was one of the biggest disappointments of the year so far.

Saif Ali Khan (2 months back, Phantom in August 2015) – Saif’s box office struggle continues. His career as a solo star is going nowhere as even Kabir Khan’s Phantom didn’t work. His films before that were Bullett Raja, Go Goa Gone, Humshakals and Happy Ending – all were loss making films.

Imran Khan (1 month back, Katti Batti in September 2015) - Another actor who has been rejected by the audience. Katti Batti didn’t even manage a face-saving opening at the box office. Kangana Ranaut’s presence didn’t help either.

Shahid Kapoor (This month, Shaandaar in October 2015) – Shahid’s good run that started with films like R.. Rajkumar and Haider, has come to a screeching halt with Shaandaar failing at the box office.

  • @gareeb wale ‘bhai’ .. Before Kick, bhaijaan did not feature in your so called top 3 criteria. So you agree, Sallu was a nobody before Kick released ? Ha-ha !

  • When was the last time I saw SRKay at the top of any list article of Indicine….
Naa I can’t remember, help me fans of SRK.

  • Well Khans and hrithik are in a kind of league that even their poorest of work will still meet the break even points. Like last year Hrithik and SRK came with one of the poorest films of their career in Bang Bang and HNY. But still both didn’t flopped. Holiday period was of course an advantage but you still cannot question mark on star power of them.
Same with Aamir in Talash and Salman in Jai ho. Both were average but didn’t flop.

For all others in the list they need to come up decent content and receive appreciation to get a hit.

  • Indicine you forget billu barber that came in 2009. It was SRK’s last flop and not paheli.
You cant term it as a guest appearance. He had quite a lengthy role in it. Kindly correct.

  • according to boi and wikipidia 2005 verdict paheli r below average and mangal panday was flop pls investigate and dont give us wrong information.

  • As stated in you one of last article Verdict of Movie is based on ROI in domestic circuit In that case Ra.one was flop . No matter what you say or try to hide but its a truth

  • @komal beta tu Naha le:
Salman has 3 all time highest opening days in recent time…
    1. Dabang
    2. Bodyguard
    3. ETT.

  • The verdict of Ra.One is the biggest mystery in Bollywood.Verdicts are given based on the theatrical performance in India, right? I know worldwide it’s a hit but domestic? I don’t think so.

  • @Indicine I am happy that now u r publishing an articles on other actors too. You haven’t reply on my 1st comment in which I ask u something but I am happy that you react on my comment, thanks and keep doing the good work.
@Indicine I don’t know whether you aware or not, but I read a new article on Salman Khan that he put on 15 kg for his upcoming movie Sultan and there is a recent pic of him in which he looks amazing with a muscular body, in article it’s mention that he is working very hard for Sultan and he putting so much efforts for this movie. And also Salman said something abt his current routine and workout. So @Indicine can plz publish an article on this and put ur views on this.
I know that people while say that I always ask to put an article only on Salman. So yes b/c I am his Fan, but I request to other actors Fan also that if they find anything good article about their hero, then they can put a request too. Even I want to request @Indicine that they introduce a different tab in their site where Fans can put some request, b/c so many times you miss some good article or news.
And I am requesting to all Fans of the actors that if they like my suggestion then plz like my comment so that @Indicine will take some action on this.

  • @Mr bollywood u are totally wrong Salman and Aamir both doing great since their debut . Aamir never flops frm 2000! And Salman’s MPK and HAHK is the biggest blockbuster of 80’s 90s nd now 2k biggest hit is 3 idiots nd Dabangg in second position where is your Srk . ? TRUTH HURTS !

  • @INDICINE: for bang bang you have written that it has done well but for jai ho-an average grosser.
    Both have the same verdicts.

  • LOL…
    PAHELI WAS ABOVE AVERAGE…
    SWADES WAS FLOP!!!!
AND LAST UNSUCCESS (NOT CLEAN HIT) OF ACTORS
    SRK-10 YEARS–PAHELI (ABOVE AVERAGE)
