Kahaani has exceeded expectations at the box office and is easily the bigger winner of the year after Agneepath. After a 24 crore first week, the Sujoy Ghosh directed film, held up very well in Week 2 with approximately Rs 17.5 crore collections. The drop is less than 30% from Week 1.
Below is the breakdown
- 1st weekend – 13 crore
- Week 1 – 24 crore
- 2nd weekend – 10 crore
- Week 2 – 17.5 crore
- Total so far – 41.5 crore
The collections are so strong that the film has beaten the lifetime collections of Ek Main Aur Ek Tu in less than 2 weeks! That’s a staggering achievement considering the fact that EMAET was produced by Karan Johar, featured two big stars (Imran and Kareena) and also was a much more commercial film.
Kahaani was a big test for Vidya Balan, but more than her star power, it’s the film’s strong content that has reaped box-office gold.
In week 3, the number of shows at multiplexes are lower due to the release of Agent Vinod. The drop is likely to be around 60% this week. Still, we expect Kahaani to cross the 50 crore mark by the end of Week 3 or during it’s fourth weekend.
She has created history..no film released on 1000+ screens has seen such minimal drops..

Now we really have a super star actress after almost 2 decades, who could carry single handedly a movie on her shoulders. One who can act, perform and collect phenomenally at box office.
Till now, Madhuri Dixit was the last actress, but Vidya Balan has actually brought back the tradition. She is the new Bollywood Empress of 21 Century.
After a long and dissappointing chain of useless and non-performing glamour dolls like Kajol, Rani Mukherjee, Aishwareya Rai, Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif; the hindi film industry has finally got its queen-bee.
She is new Rekha , Sridevi and Madhuri all in one.
Parineeta, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Paa, ishqia, No One killed Jessica, The Dirty Picture, and now Kahaani

Kajol has not delivered single heroine oriented commercially successful film, till date. Rest is all perception, differs from person to person. Either it is Fanaa or DDLJ or KKHH, all had a presence of stong commercial superstar actor and they were hero riented movies. Only heroine oriented movie which she did was Dushman, which was an utter flop.
Actually, I feel Kajol is not even a glamour doll, although this is only my perception. But her commercial track track is not anyone’s perception.
Sridevi has Nagina, Chandni, Judaai, Chaalbaaz etc.
Rekha has Khoobsoorat, Umrao Jaan, Khoon Bhari Maang, Phool Bane Angaarey, etc.
Maduri has Hum Aapke Hai Koun, Raja, Mriyudand, etc.
These wre all heroine oriented films and sold and watched on the name of the female leads and truly carried pn the shoulder of their heroines.
For last 20 years now, there is no such actress who demonstrated this success.
Now Vidya is doing this: Parineeta, Ishqia, No One killed Jessica, The Dirty Picture, and now Kahaani
Kahaani released 850 theatres.
Agent Vinod released 2200 screens.
But Agent Vinod will fail to break Kahaani lifetime.

from the bottom of my heart , i really congragulate vidhya balan. she is the real role model for the ladies who are coming to the film field and i loved her acting very much in dirty picture , boolbulaye and of course all of her films.
i think that she is industrious, smart, educated,raised from a good family background and above all she is blessed, i mean a divine touch is there for her.
Let Vidhya balan be the centralised character in the future hindi films occasionaly for many years, as
there will be billion fans for her.
i wish vidhya balan , a happy and prosperous vishu.
